An Arena is a type of room in Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, in which Kirby can challenge a Mid-Boss for a Maxim Tomato and his opponent's Copy Ability. It resembles a real life Roman arena or amphitheater, a single screen in size and filled with spectators. Like Sub-Games, Arenas are entered through a door in the level hub, which may have to be unlocked by discovering and pressing a Big Switch hidden inside a certain stage. Arena doors are indicated by two crossed axes above the door.

Each level of the game, with the exception of Vegetable Valley, Rainbow Resort and The Fountain of Dreams, contains a single Arena, each individual one having one particular Mid-Boss connected to it, which is fought every time Kirby enters the respective Arena. Each arena has a different mid-boss associated with it (detailed below). Once Kirby initiates a fight, he cannot leave until either he or his adversary is defeated (or the game is reset). Losing a battle subtracts one of Kirby's lives, whereas achieving victory causes a Maxim Tomato to drop from the sky and enables the pink hero to inhale and swallow his defeated adversary to obtain its power.

Apart from Poppy Bros. Sr., Mr. Tick-Tock and Phan Phan, which cannot be fought in Arenas, every Mid-Boss in the game is associated with one specific level's Arena.
