This article is about the theme that plays during the final boss of Kirby: Canvas Curse. For the character with the same name, see Drawcia.

"Drawcia Sorceress" is a theme from Kirby: Canvas Curse. It is generally considered to be Drawcia's theme along with "Drawcia Soul".

Composition[edit]

Facing off against the sorceress herself.

"Drawcia Sorceress" is composed in the key of G♯ minor in a 12/8 time signature. This means each bar can be divided into four segments of three beats each. The actual song is preceded by a lengthy intro, about 48 seconds long, which plays at a slow tempo and uses solely pipe organ to establish the main melodic ideas. When this segment ends, the pipe organ repeats itself at a much faster tempo with added drum and bass, which is the main looping part of the song.

The same musical ideas from "Drawcia Sorceress" — playing the main pipe organ melody slowly at first, then repeating it faster with added instruments — would notably be reused with "Sullied Grace" from Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

The theme first appears in Kirby: Canvas Curse. It plays during the first part of the final boss against Drawcia when she is in her Sorceress form. It can be found as track 41 of the game's Sound Test.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

An arrangement of the theme titled "A Dance with the Painting Witch" can be unlocked at Gourmet Rank 18 as a music theme for Races. This version of the song uses jazz instrumentation and a swung rhythm, and plays the main melody twice, with slight variations in the second loop. It was arranged by Megumi Ohara.

Other appearances[edit]

The original version of the theme was featured in Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition Compilation Soundtrack.

The theme was also performed live in the Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert as part of the "Kirby Ball Medley", along with "Whispy-Woods Land", "Iceberg Ocean", and "Rainbow Across the Skies". In this variation, the main melody is only played once, but with full orchestration.
