"Mid-Boss Battle"[Japanese title] is a mid-boss theme in Kirby's Adventure, composed by Hirokazu Ando. It is one of the two standard mid-boss themes of the Kirby series, along with Room Guarder.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

The theme debuts in this game, playing in Arenas. In addition, in Kirby's Adventure exclusively, a version of the theme with a unique intro plays in the Egg Catcher sub-game and the intro-less version also plays in the Tower of Mid-Bosses.

Kirby's Avalanche[edit]

A faithful remix of the theme plays in the cutscene before the battle with King Dedede.

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

A simple arrangement of the theme plays exclusively when battling Iron Mam in Dyna Blade. In Kirby Super Star Ultra exclusively, it also plays on the screen explaining Meta Knight's abilities at the beginning of Meta Knightmare Ultra and during the same Iron Mam battle in Level 2 of that game mode.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

The Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land arrangement of the theme is reused as the mid-boss theme of this game, with minor differences such as a different bass sample. Despite not playing in any boss battles, its official name is ボス (Boss).[1]

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

A remix of the theme serves as the main theme for Block Attack. This version features the melody of the song twice, with some minor differences to the notes spread throughout. For some reason, it's the only song not present in the game's Sound Test. In addition, the Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land version plays in the same sub-game if the "Old School" setting is on.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

The theme is one of the many boss themes incorporated into the "Boss Theme Medley" of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Interestingly, its placement in the medley, which has the themes in chronological order, appears to indicate that it's representing either Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land or Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. The medley is one of the default tracks of the Halberd stage, and is arranged by Kentaro Ishizaka.

The track returns in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In the latter, like all other Kirby tracks in the game, it can be played on any Kirby series stage, Battlefield, Big Battlefield, Small Battlefield and Final Destination.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

A remix of "Mid-Boss Battle" paired with the boss theme from Kirby's Adventure serves as the mid-boss theme of levels located in Popstar. It is named Fight! Mid-Boss Battle and was arranged by Jun Ishikawa. The "Mid-Boss Battle" portion of this remix is nearly identical to the version in Kirby Super Star, though in higher fidelity. Moreover, a slow remix of this theme serves as the ability select room of The True Arena, titled Challenging the True Arena. Finally, parts of this song can be heard in Underworld, a stage theme from Egg Engines.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, an electronic remix of "Egg Catcher" plays when playing the sub-game. After beating the initial missions for it, the original version of the track is unlocked to be played during the sub-game instead. A short portion of the song can also be heard at the end of the track The Merry, Magical World of Magolor! which plays after completing 100 missions in Merry Magoland.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

The mid-boss theme of this game, Chasing Down the Miniboss, incorporates a section of "Mid-Boss Battle" right before looping. It was arranged by Hirokazu Ando.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

The second half of the game's mid-boss theme, Metal N. Vasion, is a remix of this theme, featuring the song's melody twice. It was arranged by Hirokazu Ando once again.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe[edit]

An arrangement of "Fight! Mid-Boss Battle" from Kirby's Return to Dream Land in an acoustic fashion plays in all the normal-rank quests, with the exception of Colossal Double-Team, Kracko and Whispy Woods.

Kirby's Blowout Blast[edit]

A long remix of the theme plays in the enemy ambushes in the various stages of the game. This version features a unique countermelody mostly played by an electric guitar, with the simple and short melody of the original song playing on repeat for the whole track.

Super Kirby Clash[edit]

A remix of the "Fight! Mid-Boss Battle" arrangement from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe with an electronic spin plays in the Colossal Double-Team Story Quest and both the Story and Party Colossal Triple-Team quests.

Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

"Decisive Battle! Overcome the Naughty Mind", Shadow Kirby's battle theme in the Final Chapter of Story Mode: The Destined Rivals, features the key phrase of "Mid-Boss Battle" as a transitional phrase between rearranged sections of "Forest/Nature Area".

Kirby and the Forgotten Land[edit]

Kirby and the Forgotten Land features "Plundering Beast Battle", a theme used for mid-boss battles and enemy ambushes. While the guitar melody is completely original to this theme, the orchestral hits underscoring the track clearly follow the main phrase of "Mid-Boss Battle" albeit without its signature key change (as with "Underworld" in Kirby's Return to Dream Land).

Other appearances[edit]

An unused arrangement of the theme can be found in the Sound Test of Kirby's Dream Land 3.

The theme is featured in the beginning of the bonus track ボスバトルメドレー/エレクトロニックver. (Boss Battle Medley / Electronic Ver.) from the Kirby Ultra Super Deluxe Original Sound Track.

The "Egg Catcher" version of the theme was performed live at the Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival as part of Get Pumped Up! Sub-Game Medley.
