Deploy the Kirby Tank! is the second stage of the level Yellow Dunes in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. In this stage, Kirby is transformed into the Kirby Tank for the first time, and set loose upon the desert dunes, where he shoots down numerous enemies, including the newly-introduced Bombzway.
Completing the stage unlocks The Long-Lost Ruins.
Overview[edit]
The stage begins in an open dune area, with a few Gordos along the ground and stars to collect in the air. Kirby can make his way across this area any way he pleases, but there does not appear to be a way forward. Uncovering some soft clay at the right end of this area reveals a switch that, when pressed, causes a portion of the floor to raise up, revealing a niche which contains the door Kirby was looking for.
The next area starts with Kirby riding a rock elevator down into an underground ruin. Here, he finds a canvas, which Elline uses to transform the pink ball into a pink tank. The newly-transformed Kirby Tank rolls forward through the door just ahead.
The next area is a small tutorial zone, similar to the one seen at the start of The Adventure Begins, but yellow instead of green. Here, the player is wordlessly instructed on the Kirby Tank's basic controls before moving on to the main event. Subsequent playthroughs of this stage allow Kirby to skip this area.
The Kirby Tank is deposited out on the open dunes by another stone elevator. From here, the fun begins, as the Kirby Tank must roll through a continuous auto-scrolling area, encountering numerous enemies and roadblocks to overcome along the way. Among the enemies are fleets of Bronto Burts, hordes of Bouncies, and the newly-introduced Bombzway, who - despite its name - is typically seen carrying Point Stars rather than bombs. All four Treasure Chests reside in this single area (details on getting them can be found in the section below).
From there, the Kirby tank is placed in a room where he is ambushed by tons of blue Bronto Burts and more Bombzways. After defeating these, the Kirby Tank is free to roll forward, but he is continually pursued by more Bronto Burts, including a really big one. He does not have to fight all of them, however, and can escape through the door to the right.
The last area is one without any hazards. Kirby is back to his normal form now, and must simply engage with the roulette wheel to end the stage.

This treasure is sitting in a cache of metal blocks in the air on Kirby's path at the start of the tank section. A bunch of Point Stars are conjured in advance of this formation, and the game gives the player a hint to use the Mega Kirby Tank barrage to blast the metal blocks, so it is hard to miss.
Shortly after Bouncy Sis, a spring appears on Kirby's path which he can use to bounce to a series of high decks. He'll have to maneuver past some Gordos on balloons to get to another spring that bounces him up to a star spinner. From here, the chest appears ahead of him attached to two balloons, and will slowly rise unless Kirby shoots it down. He should take care that it does not fall to the ground, however, if he wants to also collect the third treasure chest up ahead.
This chest is located inside a challenge room, which can be accessed shortly after obtaining the second chest if Kirby stayed high in the air to reach the platform the door is sitting on. This challenge tasks Kirby with shooting all the Bouncies within 15 seconds, though this can be easily accomplished using the Mega Kirby Tank barrage. After emerging from the door, Kirby should ignore the trail of point stars that appears in the sky to his right and drop straight down if he wants to get the fourth chest.
Right before leaving the main Kirby Tank area, a giant Star Block appears on the path in front of the door. This needs to be destroyed with multiple tank shots. This done, five Bombzways will appear, with the uppermost one carrying the chest. Kirby will need to shoot it down before it flies away or he gets too far ahead. |
