— Guest Star Poppy Bros. Jr. Bombs Away! Pause Screen description in Kirby Star Allies
|
Poppy Bros. Jr. is a commonly reccurring enemy in the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby's Dream Land. He is a small humanoid figure who wears a clown suit with a cap similar to that of Sword Kirby's, though Poppy Bros. Jr.'s outfit is usually a pale blue in color.
Poppy Bros. Jr.'s role has varied greatly throughout the Kirby series. In his oldest appearances, he provided no Copy Ability and was typically seen riding on Grizzos or balancing on apples and Maxim Tomatoes. Starting with Kirby Super Star (and perhaps following in the footsteps of his older relative, Poppy Bros. Sr.), Poppy Bros. Jr. could be seen tossing bombs, and providing the Bomb ability when swallowed. This game also had Poppy Bros. Jr. throw boomerangs, with this case resulting in Kirby gaining the Cutter ability from him instead. In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and every subsequent 3D Kirby game, Poppy Bros. Jr. consistently provides the Bomb ability, having become the mascot for said ability ever since.
Game appearances
Kirby's Dream Land
Poppy Bros. Jr. first appeared in this title. His main job is to ride on apples and Grizzos, though he can be seen on his own. He is worth 400 points when defeated.
Kirby's Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

Kirby's Adventure.
Poppy Bros. Jr. appears in this title and its remake, and can be seen balancing on Maxim Tomatoes as well as apples. In order to obtain the tomato, Kirby must inhale Poppy Bros. Jr. to get him off of it. Attempting to attack him with any other method will destroy the tomato. He provides no ability if swallowed.

Kirby's Pinball Land
Poppy Bros. Jr. (known here as Junior Poppy Brothers[1]) makes several appearances on the Poppy Brothers' Land series of boards. On the uppermost floor, three of them can be found emerging from doorways and heading toward unhatched Chicks. If they get to the eggs, they will kick them causing them to reset, but Kirby can knock them away for 500 points.

Jr. can also be found in more traditional roles, with no weapon or balancing on an apple. Poppy Bros. Jr. can also come in many different tunic colors. Poppy Bros. Jr. can be called as a helper, gaining the move-set of Bomb Kirby and an Infinity Jump. In Revenge of the King, Poppy Bros. Jr. is replaced by a similar enemy called Perot.

"Sometimes riding on Grizzos, other times balancing on apples or Maxim Tomatoes, this little clown clearly has some skills. Unfortunately, his job isn't to make people laugh--it's to get in Kirby's way. As you might expect from the "Jr." in his name, there's also a Poppy Bros. Sr., and he's a slightly bigger nuisance."

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!
Poppy Bros. Jr. makes a tiny cameo appearance as a monster in the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! episode Cowardly Creature. He is shown briefly training as part of the "Young Monsters of the Future" program run by monster clowns, using a pair of roller skates.
Trivia
Poppy Bros. Jr. in Helper to Hero.
- Poppy Bros. Jr.'s alternative coloration in Kirby Super Star Ultra's Helper To Hero game is a purple suit and hat.
- Poppy Bros. Jr.'s bomb (in hand) blows up in 5 seconds unless thrown.
- Poppy Bros. Jr. initially had different eyes, which resembled black dots with wedges in the middle like a more classic cartoon. In newer titles, his eyes look more like Kirby's, though they are slightly wider.
- While Poppy Bros. Jr. serves as the tutorial to use Friend Hearts and create Friends in Kirby Star Allies, he is not actually the first Friend Kirby has to make in the game. If Kirby obtains the Sword Copy Ability by swallowing the Blade Knight present in the room before the tutorial, and an input is made on a second controller, Kirby will create a befriended Blade Knight before the player is given the power to throw Friend Hearts.
