They are sent by [[Night Mare Enterprises]] in order to torment the teachers and students at [[Dedede Academy]] using various pranks and attacks. They bully and attack [[Tiff]] in particular, who was trying to teach them mathematics, and she responds by learning self-defense from [[Meta Knight (anime)|Meta Knight]] and returning to beat them down by parrying their attacks. Shortly after, Dirk, Kirk, and Smirk retaliate by combining into a single monstrous form and attacking Tiff and Kirby, but Kirby defeats them after a tough battle using the [[Fighter]] [[Copy Ability]].

Once they combine together, Dirk, Kirk, and Smirk become a totem pole-like monster which merges several of their individual aspects together, while removing a lot of extra features. In this form, they consist of three spherical segments with their faces on them and no arms. Smirk's face takes up the top-most segment and is the largest, followed by Kirk who is slightly smaller, and Dirk who is smaller still. Aspects of their appearance are also greatly simplified, with only Smirk retaining any sort of mouth. Each segment is separated using a golden spiked collar, and all six of their feet are relegated to the bottom sphere. Kirk's mohawk moves up to occupy Smirk's section and becomes much longer. Using this mohawk, they can grab their opponent and grip them like a tentacle. Their eyes turn to a featureless red, like many other monsters.

When transformed like this, Dirk, Kirk, and Smirk attack by charging forward by propelling using their feet, using the mohawk to grab, throw, and swipe, and spitting junk out of Smirk's mouth. This junk can be [[inhale]]d by Kirby to gain the [[Fighter]] [[Copy Ability]]. In this form, only Smirk can speak, though in the Japanese version, all three of them can be heard speaking simultaneously and in unison.

== Role in The School Scam ==

Dirk, Kirk, and Smirk appear in the episode [[The School Scam]]. They are called in as transfer students by [[King Dedede (anime)|King Dedede]] in order to liven up and torment the students and teachers of the [[Dedede Academy]], and they get to work right away after antagonizing King Dedede and [[Escargoon]]. After being set up by King Dedede, Tiff heads to the academy to teach mathematics, but is immediately assaulted by Dirk, Kirk, and Smirk's pranks, which they do in a manner which disallows Tiff from retaliating without ruining her reputation. Despite this, the pranks reach a point where Tiff finally loses her nerve, though she mistakenly takes out her frustration on Kirby, who is being puppeteered by Kirk using a fishing rod.

Tiff's reputation thus ruined, Dirk, Kirk, and Smirk proceed to terrorize the other weaker-willed teachers while bullying Kirby and the students at their pleasure. To get her revenge, Tiff proceeds to train in self defense techniques with the help of Meta Knight. She returns to the school, though in an unofficial capacity and challenges the three bullies to a fight. They take her on, and are each bested in turn as Tiff turns their attacks onto themselves. They appear to be defeated at this point, but shortly afterward, they merge into their monster form and target Tiff once again.

From here, Kirby steps in and inhales the projectiles spewed by Dirk, Kirk, and Smirk to gain the Fighter ability. Using this, Kirby battles the monster using his various fighting techniques, but the monster proves to be a formidable opponent, and puts Kirby on the ropes several times during the battle. Regardless, Kirby manages to finish them odd by using his [[Rising Break]] technique to launch them into the sky. They then come crashing down into the roof of the academy and explode, taking the school with it and launching King Dedede and Escargoon away with the bell.

==Trivia==
*In the Japanese version, Gure, Yota, and Banchou repeat their names when formed together as a monster, though Banchou's name is repeated the most. This had led to the monster form being conjecturally referred to simply as Banchou in the Japanese version.
