'''Trick or Trek''' is the 69th episode of the ''[[Kirby: Right Back at Ya!]]'' series. In this episode, [[King Dedede (anime)|King Dedede]] steals [[Tiff]]'s idea to hold an eco-tour of [[Whispy Woods Forest]], intent on subverting the original goals of the tour in order to make another attempt at building his country club after cutting down the woods. After splitting off from the rest of the tour group, King Dedede and [[Escargoon]] get lost while Tiff and the others do as well. After taking a tumble down a river in the woods, King Dedede and Escargoon start a smoke signal to try and reunite with Tiff's group, but this ends up lighting the entire forest on fire and trapping them in the inferno. Using the [[Tornado]] [[Copy Ability]], [[Kirby (anime)|Kirby]] puts out the fire before it can completely destroy the forest, and King Dedede and Escargoon are made by [[Whispy Woods]] to replant the lost trees by hand as punishment.

This episode marks the final appearance of the [[Tornado]] [[Copy Ability]] in the anime series.

==Plot synopsis==

The episode begins in the dark recesses of [[Whispy Woods Forest]], where [[Tiff]] and [[Tuff]] catch [[Chef Kawasaki (anime)|Chef Kawasaki]] dumping trash and berate him. The chef insists that everybody in town dumps here, and this is proven when another person manages to dump and then get away. Tiff, Tuff, and [[Kirby (anime)|Kirby]] later visit [[Whispy Woods]] and - while tending to his [[Lovely]] patch - explain the problem to him and try to convince him to ban people from entering the woods. Instead, Whispy suggests that they organize a tour group so the townsfolk can see how important it is to keep the woods pristine. Later on, at [[Castle Dedede]], [[King Dedede (anime)|King Dedede]] and [[Escargoon]] spy on the kids while they prepare their brochures to advertise the tour, and get the idea to steal the tour so they can gain an opportunity to destroy the forest and build their golf course. Shortly thereafter, a broadcast is sent in [[Channel DDD]] where they promote their own tour, and despite their lack of research, they get the people of [[Cappy Town]] interested and Tiff furious. 

Some time later, the tour is underway, and King Dedede and Escargoon lead a small group of Cappies into the woods with heavy backpacks in tow. Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby then join their tour in order to ensure that nothing fishy happens. As the tour progresses, King Dedede makes notes regarding how he can make use of the landscape in his golf course, and his choice of words leaves the other tourists none-the-wiser. He and Escargoon make their first mistake however when they drink sodas and then toss the cans on the ground. Tiff berates them for this, but they predictably brush her off and continue the tour. Further in, King Dedede marks a nearby tree in order to cut it down later, and Tiff spots him doing this. King Dedede nearly loses his cool when she scolds him again, but Escargoon tells him to play along with it for now. As the tour continues, Tiff's nagging starts to bother the other tourists who want to take souvenirs. After their lunch, Tiff is left to clean up the trash, as she curses their lack of decency toward nature. While she is distracted, King Dedede tricks [[Chief Bookem]] into cutting down some of the trees near a pond in order to improve the viewing conditions for a photograph. When Tiff discovers this, she demands that King Dedede and Escargoon stop the tour, so they comply and hand responsibility over to her as they slip away with their supplies.

As Tiff leads the group home, they end up getting lost in the woods and start to panic. At this moment, they are startled and ambushed by a bear, who chases them down. After they stumble down the trail and hit into a log, the bear leaves. Later, it is revealed to be King Dedede in a suit, who was using the trick to scare them away from the construction site of his country club. As the group continues their walk, Tiff realizes they are walking in circles, and decides to have them camp for the night so as not to walk in the dark. As they set up camp, Tiff lowers her prohibitions and allows the group to gather food and resources in order to make it through the night. As the night passes, King Dedede and Escargoon finalize their plans for the golf course. Later on, as they head out of the woods, they cross a rickety bridge, but King Dedede decides to torment Escargoon by jumping on it. This ends up causing the bridge to collapse, and the two of them fall into the river below.

As Tiff and her party continue to trek through the forest, they manage to find the river, and recover King Dedede's satchel which he dropped when he fell in. The river contains the plans for his golf course, finally cluing everyone in to his real intentions. Meanwhile, King Dedede and Escargoon manage to get out of the river, and soon realize they are lost as well. They end up spotting Tiff's group on the other side and call out to them, but their shouts cannot be heard over the river. To get their attention, they light a signal fire deep in the woods. This fire gets Kirby's attention, but shortly after, King Dedede and Escargoon overdo it and cause a forest fire. Despite this being an accident, King Dedede realizes that he can clear out the forest much faster this way and celebrates this turn of events, not realizing that he and Escargoon are now in danger. Once they are trapped by the flames, King Dedede decides to take out his anger on Escargoon and chases after him with his hammer as the forest collapses around them.

After escaping to a fresh area of the forest, King Dedede and Escargoon run directly into Whispy Woods, who is using his roots to protect his Lovelies. Whispy apprehends them, determined to make them share their fate with him for starting the fire. Meanwhile, Tiff's group is trapped near the river, but they spot [[Captain Waddle Doo]] flying in using a personal helicopter looking for King Dedede and Escargoon. Tuff tells Kirby to [[inhale]] the helicopter, and he does so, gaining the [[Tornado]] [[Copy Ability]] from its rotor. Using this ability, Kirby hops into the river and creates a vortex of water that he uses to quench the flames. This comes just in time to save Whispy Woods and his captives. King Dedede and Escargoon celebrate their good fortune, but they then get zapped by lightning from Kirby's storm for good measure. Later on, as punishment for their reckless endangerment of the woods and everyone in it, King Dedede and Escargoon are forced to work to replant all the trees, which amounts to several thousand. The episode ends as Tiff's tour group mocks them.

==Differences between versions==
*In the Japanese version, [[Chief Bookem|Chief Borun]] uses a metal chainsaw to cut down the trees, instead of a laser saw.

===Dialogue differences===
*In the Japanese version, Whispy Woods makes no suggestion to start an eco-tour. Instead, [[Tiff|Fumu]] comes up with this idea herself.
*In the Japanese version, King Dedede convinces Chief Borun to cut down the trees by saying it would make the area have better [[wikipedia:Feng shui|feng shui]].
*In the Japanese version, when King Dedede and [[Escargoon|Doctor Escargon]] escape from the river and realize they are lost, they cry at the idea that this may be the end for them, and confess that they love each-other.
