'''"Gourmet Race"''', also known as '''"Get Up and Go-Urmet!"''' and '''"Gourmet Go Go"''', is a musical track that first appeared in the [[Gourmet Race]] game of ''[[Kirby Super Star]]''. It has since reappeared many times in the ''[[Kirby (series)|Kirby]]'' and ''[[Super Smash Bros. (series)|Super Smash Bros.]]'' series, mainly in re-orchestrated and remastered versions. It is sometimes associated with [[King Dedede]], but is not [[King Dedede's Theme|his main theme]].

==Composition==

The original version of "Gourmet Race" is set in the key of C minor (which shifts to E♭ major in the final segment) at a tempo of around 186 beats per minute. It is set in 4/4 time, but has a marching rhythm similar to a galop. The instrumentation focuses heavily on brass instruments, and blends classical music with ska to create an upbeat sound.

According to composer [[Jun Ishikawa]], the direction he was given for composing the piece was "a song in the vein of an athletic meet". The first thing that came to his mind was a song like "[[wikipedia:Csikós Post|Csikós Post]]" by [[wikipedia:Hermann Necke|Hermann Necke]], which is commonly played at athletic festivals in Japan. However, he had difficulty connecting the song to the style he had established for ''Kirby'' music. He eventually had the idea to make it more fitting with ''Kirby'' by incorporating a ska rhythm, and after this, he finished the melody in a flash of inspiration.<ref name="orchestra"/>

Additionally, in an interview with the entire sound team that nobody has ever managed to track down, but thankfully was mentioned on the fan website Kirby's Rainbow Resort.com, Gourmet Race has been given the following<ref>HIGHLY</ref> official lyrics, starting from the intro:

The ''[[harddrop: Tetris 99|Tetris 99]]'' theme based on ''Kirby's Dream Buffet'' includes two of the game's arrangements of "Gourmet Race": the Battle Royale arrangement is used along with "[[Rolling-Quartet Jazz Band]]" when 50-11 players are left, while "Kirby's Ultra-Gourmet Memories" is used on the results screen after coming in 1st place.

The Gourmet Race theme has been performed live several times by orchestras, most prominently in the [[Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert]] as part of the "Kirby Super Star Medley". It also appeared in the [[Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival]] as part of the "Go Go! Kirby Race Medley" (along with "[[Pink Ball Activate!|Outlaw Driver]]", "[[Welcome to Wondaria (theme)|Circuit Speedway]]", "[[Top Ride: Grass]]", and "[[City Trial: City]]").
