'''Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!''' is an [[Extra Mode]] in ''[[Kirby Star Allies]]'', unlocked once the Story Mode is completed. The main premise involves a team of [[Helper|Friends]] and/or [[Dream Friend]]s running through a condensed version of the main story mode in one long time attack run without [[Kirby]]'s help and defeating [[Morpho Knight|a different boss]] at the end of the game. Along the way, a number of distinct challenges are faced depending on which guest star was chosen to be the main character, and [[Power-Up Heart]]s are available which can bolster the allies' abilities. Completing this game mode at least once is required to unlock the Fiery Showdown and Infernal Crisis difficulties of [[The Ultimate Choice]], and contributes toward [[100% completion]] of ''Kirby Star Allies''.

This game mode is similar in premise to previous time attack modes such as [[Meta Knightmare]] and [[Dededetour!]], and includes checkpoints and a final time leaderboard for each character. Unlike those modes, however, none of the bosses fought are enhanced versions of their Story Mode counterparts (save for the run for [[The Three Mage-Sisters]]).

==Story==
The story is largely the same as the main Story Mode. However, instead of collecting the pieces of the [[Jamba Heart]], [[Hyness]] and [[The Three Mage-Sisters]] are attempting to open an inter-dimensional portal. Once they are defeated, after a fake-out credits sequence, [[Galacta Knight]] appears from out of the portal and gets ready to fight the allies again as he normally does. However, just before the fight can begin, a strange [[butterfly]] lands on Galacta Knight's lance and causes him to disintegrate. In his place, the butterfly transforms into the Reborn Butterfly, [[Morpho Knight]], who fights the allies in Galacta Knight's stead. Defeating him causes this new knight to gracefully vaporize, completing the game.

==Gameplay==

The player needs to choose a particular Friend to play as before the game begins, and will stick with that friend for the remainder of the game. As such, this friend is given the ability to toss [[Friend Heart]]s to recruit other allies to help clear away obstacles and perform [[Friend Ability|Friend Abilities]]. Instead of entering each stage individually, all the stages are played in one long run, with checkpoints in the interim. They are split into five 'levels' which are timed separately. Along the way, entering side areas and accessing hard-to-reach spots can yield [[Power-Up Heart]]s, which raise the stats of the allies when collected. These stats can be raised to a maximum of 5 but will reset when a new level is accessed. If a Power-Up Heart is collected when its corresponding stat is already at level 5, then the character who collected will pose but the level will not change. However, collecting a sixth Health heart will still refill the health meter of all characters entirely, as if they had eaten a [[Maxim Tomato]].

In addition, there are a number of areas in the stages which have been reconfigured into 'ambush zones', where enemies appear in sequence which the allies must defeat. There are a number of unique areas to run through, which do not appear at all in the main story mode, with the DLC Dream Friends going through sections of levels that either make use of their moveset or are recreations of earlier ''Kirby'' stages. The layout of the run also changes based on which ally is being used, with certain areas only appearing for certain allies. For example, sections that utilize [[Friend Throw]] will only appear for characters that can use that move or something similar to make progress (e.g. [[Gooey]], [[Beetley]], [[Bugzzy]], [[Knuckle Joe]], and [[Magolor]]).

Lastly, while there are many [[Point Star|Point Heart]]s and [[Picture Piece]]s to find, there is very little in the way of [[Food]] or other healing items, and the allies start with 80% of their default maximum [[stamina|health]]. Therefore, the allies will need to rely on either their own abilities, checkpoints, or the Health Power-Up Hearts to recover lost health. There are also no [[1-Up]]s to be found, but extra lives can still be increased by collecting Point Hearts.

A separate high score is kept for each individual ally, though only one run needs to be finished to 'complete' the game. Once this one run is completed, [[Dream Friend]]s are made available to play as. Allies with completed runs will have their respective icon marked with a crown, indicating completion of a character's run.

Interestingly enough, the [[Friend Star]] is never utilized in this game mode. In its place, several more [[Friend Train]] sections are added.

The following lists all playable allies and their subtitles in the title screen. The title of this game mode is meant to be a placeholder for whichever ally is picked. The title officially changes based on which ally is played.

For DLC Dream Friends, the art on the title screen changes to match the Japanese box art of their respective debut games. The base game Dream Friends did not have unique title screen art until version 2.0.0, showcasing their signature colors and previous appearances.

For all allies that came with the base version of the game, the area looks almost identical to its appearance in Story Mode, except for the Jambastion reflection in the center of the floor and the flowers being color-swapped.

==Ending: Friends' Curtain Call==
After defeating [[Morpho Knight]], the game mode is completed and the Guest Star credits, '''"Friends' Curtain Call"''', plays. During the credits, the current remaining allies after the Morpho Knight battle can play a minigame if the player moves whoever character they are playing as. Meanwhile, allies who have previously completed the game mode are in the audience watching the current allies.

In the minigame, the allies try to defeat as many enemies as possible for the high score before the image slideshow in the background ends. Every time an ally is damaged, that player loses 500 points. In the middle of the credits, in [[King Dedede]]'s stead, [[Meta Knight]] will enter and challenge the allies just like his boss battle at [[Sacred Square]]. Defeating Meta Knight gives 5000 points. However, if the allies can't defeat him before the credits end, he will leave the battle without providing any points.

At the end of the credits, several waves of [[Point Star|Point Heart]]s drop, with the final wave having the Point Hearts in the shape of [[Kirby]]. Notably, a picture of a never-seen-before glowing orb is shown in the credits, hinting at [[Void Soul]]. Finally, the current allies pose while the same allies also join the audience, who all wave directly at the player.

If player 1 is a [[Dream Friend]], the final picture of the credits shows their first appearance scenario in the [[Kirby (series)|''Kirby'' series]], and "THE END" shows a special picture of the Dream Friend update group they belong to.

==Guest Star Kirby glitch==

In Version 2.0.0 of the game and earlier, it was possible to play this mode as [[Kirby]]. If while in handheld mode, the player tapped a specific area on the screen in the main menu between 'New Game' and 'Best Time', they would be taken to a scoreboard for 'Guest Star Kirby' and asked if they wanted to start. Doing so would begin a run of this mode as Kirby. There were a few elements to this that would suggest this is a glitch rather than an easter egg. These were as follows:
*Kirby's pause description text, regardless of what ability he is using, reads as (未せってい) in all languages, which translates from Japanese as "Not set". This is because Guest Star calls for a unique set of pause screen descriptions, which Kirby doesn't have.
*Kirby does not vocalize as he normally does when activating Friend Platforms or when using the [[Dream Palace|Dream Rod]].
*[[Reset Platform]]s do not take away Kirby's ability, and Kirby does not lose his ability when calling upon a [[Helper|Friend]] from it.
*Kirby cannot interact directly with [[Copy Essence]]s or discarded ability hats by touching them. He can still use them by tossing [[Friend Heart]]s at them or [[Inhaling]] the latter.
*Tutorial signs do not display any characters, nor do they get marked when the shown action is performed.
*Kirby's [[1-Up]] portrait changes depending on which ability he is using, along with the title displayed in the pause menu. (e.g. "Guest Star [[Sleep]]")
*The title that shows in the credits will display the name of the Friend who corresponds to Kirby's currently-equipped ability. Despite this, any scores will still be saved to Kirby's score table.
**If Kirby has no ability which corresponds to an ally, the title will default to one of his allies, or to a completely different ally if he has none.

Starting in Version 3.0.0, the main menu's design is changed to accommodate the addition of multiple save files at once. As the "Continue" button in this version is now permanent after starting the mode once, this glitch no longer works.

==Trivia==
*In Level 5, at the end of the castle section, there is an ambush where the team will have to fight multiples of whichever character the player is playing as, i.e. if [[Blade Knight]] is the team leader, the ambush will be several Blade Knights.
**If the player is playing as an available [[Mid-Boss]], they will fight a duo of said mid-boss instead.
**This does not apply to Dream Friends, though a unique encounter will still appear for each one.
