Map often refers to an in-game visualization of the playable area within a video game which can be viewed by the player, either from the beginning, or after receiving the appropriate item. In the Kirby series, maps take on a variety of appearances, though are typically only represented as World Hubs or Level Hubs.
The following is a list of each type of map that has appeared in the Kirby series, with notes where applicable:
- World Hub and Level Hub - These are visual areas which represent a map of a given region. Depending on the game, they may be fully fleshed-out areas that Kirby can move around in like a normal stage, may be more traditional selection screens, or may be somewhere in-between. Kirby's Adventure was the first game to employ explorable hubs in this fashion.
- Map (item) - In Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Kirby can find items which allow the player to view a simplified map of the respective region of the Mirror World. These maps function similarly to Dungeon Maps from The Legend of Zelda.
- Secret Map - In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Kirby can collect pieces of a map that, when completed, leads him to the Copy Ability Room for the game.
- Other maps, such as the race course maps in Kirby Air Ride and the progress map in The Great Cave Offensive are simple visual affairs which give the player a general idea of where Kirby is.
