"Ruins Ahead" is a stage theme from Kirby Mass Attack associated with the ruin areas of Sandy Canyon. It was composed by Shogo Sakai.
Composition
"Ruins Ahead" is a somewat vigorous theme in harmonic C major with D sharp and 4/4, stylized as Middle Eastern music. It opens up with a percussive intro with supporting electric guitar. The melody is played by an oboe and square wave as an allusion to a shehnai. It goes down the theme's unique scale with ornaments, a tendency previously seen in "Top Ride: Sand". It repeats with clearer electric guitar and a glissando at the end. After this, a heavily percussive string rising passage leads back to the original pitch. The sections repeats, with the oboe melody now in tandem with an oud. The rising passage continues with a fanfare before leading into the next section. Here, the oud plays a new motif with a loud harmonic support. This part has a clearer focus on the major aspects of the key, shifting from dominant to tonic with smooth phrases. It eventually takes a quick turn to E-flat major and back to C major through its dominant. The intro repeats as the track loops.
