Smokescreen is an item which appears in the Top Ride mode of Kirby Air Ride. It appears randomly during standard races, dropping onto the course. When touched by a racer, the machine is equipped with a smoke generator on the back. Once the racer activates it, three large smoke clouds will be generated behind the machine as it moves. Opponents who ride into the smoke will lose control of their machines momentarily, and slide forward. After a few seconds, the smoke dissipates.

Smokescreen can be shaken off prematurely if the racer uses a Quick Spin, is attacked, or enters a stage hazard. It will also disappear after about 8 seconds if not used.
