'''The Chill Factor''' is the 66th episode of the ''[[Kirby: Right Back at Ya!]]'' series. In this episode, the summer weather in [[Dream Land (anime)|Dream Land]] takes a sudden turn toward snowy conditions as an iceberg containing the wandering [[Pengy]] tribe makes landfall and settles in. [[Tiff]], [[Tuff]], and [[Kirby (anime character)|Kirby]] soon discover that the Pengys are causing this change in Dream Land's climate using a massive air conditioner built into their iceberg, and upon catching them, Pengy soon decides to turn his visit into a hostile takeover as he jails all of the [[Cappy (anime)|Cappies]] and then takes over [[Castle Dedede]]. Kirby, Tiff, and Tuff disguise themselves as Pengys in order to escape the jail and make their way to the castle, where they rendezvous with [[Meta Knight (anime character)|Meta Knight]] and [[King Dedede (anime character)|King Dedede]], and proceed to challenge Pengy to a duel. Kirby tries to use the [[Ice]] [[Copy Ability]] against Pengy at first, but this fails, so the group comes up with a fallback plan and has Kirby take a bottle of hot sauce from [[Night Mare Enterprises]] to the [[Booma-Dooma Volcano]] and pour it in, creating an eruption which counterbalances the air conditioner from the iceberg and forces the Pengys to leave in order to find a cooler land.

==Plot synopsis==

The episode begins out on the beaches of [[Dream Land (anime)|Dream Land]] on a warm sunny day, as [[Kirby (anime character)|Kirby]] and his friends are playing. A moment later, dark clouds begin to suddenly roll over the land, and the seasons rapidly change, much like they did in [[Dedede's Snow Job]]. As the people notice this, they wonder what could be causing the sudden cold, and whether or not it may be another [[Ice Dragon]]. [[Tiff]] and [[Tuff]] head to [[Castle Dedede]] and demand to know if [[King Dedede (anime character)|King Dedede]] is responsible, but he claims to have no part this time, and [[Escargoon]] proves it by showing Tiff their notice from [[Night Mare Enterprises]] that they cannot order any more [[monster]]s due to unpaid bills. That night, the weather turns to snow and the residents of the castle find it difficult to cope with the cold. The next day, the Dream Landers awake to find themselves within yet another winter wonderland scenario, and take advantage of the snow as they did before. After getting knocked around for a bit by King Dedede on a snowmobile, Kirby stumbles across a [[Pengy|new creature]] he has not seen before. Escargoon and King Dedede soon spot more of them, in various shades and sizes.

These new penguin-like visitors soon stumble across the other denizens of Dream Land and interrupt their activities. Later on, Tiff, Tuff, Kirby, and some of the senior Cappy Town residents head down to the sea to get a better look at the new visitors, and discover a massive iceberg just off the coast. They are soon addressed by the leader Pengy from the iceberg, flanked by other Pengys carrying spears. Pengy explains that his people wander the world using their iceberg, and are looking for a place to stay and recuperate for a while. [[Mayor Len Blustergas|Mayor Len]] and [[Chief Bookem]] agree to let them stay for the moment, and the Pengys begin to mingle with the [[Cappy (anime)|Cappies]] in town. Meanwhile, King Dedede desires to meet up with the Pengy tribe as well, but [[Captain Waddle Doo]] informs him that the [[Waddle Dee (anime)|Waddle Dees]] are not adjusting to the cold very well and are all taking sick, which causes Dedede's mood to sour.

As time goes by, Pengy starts to hint that the Pengys' stay may not be so short after all. As the Pengys become more and more intertwined with the town, Tiff starts to have doubts about their motives for staying. Tiff questions Pengy directly about this as well as the sudden change in the weather, but he brushes her off, making her even more suspicious. Later on, Tiff concludes that the Pengys must be hiding something in their iceberg, and invites Tuff and Kirby to investigate with her. They sneak past the guards and enter a seemingly empty room. but Kirby accidentally finds a hidden passageway and the others follow him through it. After ascending more icy stairwells and halls, the group discovers a massive air conditioner atop the iceberg which they deduce is responsible for the changing weather. However, they end up getting caught by Pengy and his guards. Later on, Pengy makes an example of them in front of the Dream Landers by freezing them up to the neck in ice cubes and dragging them with ropes through the town. Pengy then berates the Dream Landers by asserting that their wasteful use of energy had caused their original home to be destroyed via global climate change, and that the Pengys are now getting their revenge by turning Dream Land into a permanent tundra. The Cappies object to this notion, but Pengy retaliates by using his frost breath to freeze them all solid.

The Pengys them proceed to head for Castle Dedede, intent on taking it over. Meanwhile, King Dedede is using copious amounts of fuel to keep his own private quarters warm. He is shortly interrupted by Pengy, who makes quick work of Dedede and Escargoon by freezing them solid. Shortly thereafter, the entire castle is coated in ice, signifying the Pengys' takeover, and all of the notable denizens of Cappy Town are tossed into the jail cell in the police headquarters. While in the cell together, [[Mabel]] knits together three Pengy costumes for Kirby, Tiff, and Tuff to wear, and using the excuse that they need to use the bathroom, the Pengys let the kids out. They proceed to change into their costumes while in the bathroom and then walk out with the Pengys none-the-wiser. From there, the three make their way to Castle Dedede, where they are stopped by one of the Pengy guards. After a brief moment, however, the guard reveals himself to be [[Meta Knight (anime character)|Meta Knight]], who is also wearing a Pengy disguise. Meanwhile, King Dedede and Escargoon are forced to work as janitors in their own castle, which enrages Dedede, though he is unable to do anything about it, and finds himself actually wishing for Kirby to come in and save the day. At that moment, Kirby and his friends come in to save the day.

The reunited group enters the throne room and challenges Pengy to a duel with Kirby, which he accepts. He blows his frost breath at them, and Kirby inhales it, gaining the [[Ice]] [[Copy Ability]]. After a brief ice breath duel, however, the group realizes that Kirby cannot win this way, as the ice only makes Pengy stronger. King Dedede decides to try and order a monster from Night Mare Enterprises to help out, but he cannot order one due to his overdue bills. Instead, the [[N.M.E. Sales Guy]] sends King Dedede a bottle of hot sauce while Tiff calls for the [[Warp Star]] to help Kirby out. Tiff then hands Kirby the bottle and tells him to go to the [[Booma-Dooma Volcano]]. Once there, Kirby pours the hot sauce straight into the caldera in a nonchalant fashion while humming to himself, and then flies off as the volcano begins to erupt. As the lava comes oozing down, the climate rapidly changes back to a warm condition, which forces the Pengys to give up their occupation of Dream Land. They quickly retreat to their iceberg and set a course to other lands as the Dream Landers watch from the shore. Having apparently learned nothing, King Dedede and Escargoon lounge outside with several air conditioners pointed at them, and Tiff spoils their lounging by pouring water on them, much like the Pengys did earlier. She tells them they have to start conserving energy, and the episode ends as Kirby proceeds to soak in a small tub.

==Differences between versions==

*In the Japanese version, there is a small extra scene where Mayor Len and Hana react to the changing climate. This scene is recycled from [[Dedede's Snow Job]].
*In the Japanese version, the bill that [[Escargoon]] shows to [[Tiff]] has legible text on it, which shows King Dedede's outstanding debt to [[Night Mare Enterprises]] to be 2,943,250,000 D-bills. This is significantly less than it has been in earlier episodes.
*In the Japanese version, there is an extra scene where Chef Kawasaki invites the Pengys to his restaurant to try some fresh fish, and the Pengys dive into the fish tank.

===Dialogue differences===
*In the Japanese version, Escargoon comments that the visiting Pengys look a lot like King Dedede, and refers to them twice to Dedede as "His Majesty's relatives".
*In the Japanese version, Mabel's prediction and Pengy's reaction are backwards from the English version, as Mabel predicts the Pengys will stay for a long time, and Pengy insists that they will not be doing that.
*In the Japanese version, the Pengy guard who scolds King Dedede and Escargoon does not have proper dialogue.
*When King Dedede tries to buy a fire monster from the [[N.M.E. Sales Guy]] in the Japanese version, he explains they are "out of monsters". In the English dub, the Sales Guy explains that he cannot sell Dedede any more monsters until his bill is paid.

*Pengy concludes that global climate change caused by the Dream Landers' overuse of energy is responsible for his home being destroyed. Based on his story, however, it is possible that the real cause of the glacier's destruction was the passing of the [[Phantom Star Gerath|asteroid]] from the episode [[Prediction Predicament - Part II]].
*This episode marks the first time in the show that King Dedede has genuinely and unambiguously felt remorse about his attitude toward Kirby.
