Summary[edit]

File information
Media Weekly Famitsu
Description A two-page advertisement for Twinkle☆Popo that ran in Weekly Famitsu, issue 0155 (1991/12/06). The head (覚えやすい名前でしょ。ぼく、ポポポ。) translates to 'The name's easy to remember. I'm Popopo.' Along the right edge of the ad, black squares name and describe different forms of Popopo ('normal Popopo', 'flying Popopo', 'laying-down Popopo', 'attacking Popopo', 'air-inhaling Popopo', 'falling Popopo', 'mouthful Popopo', 'can't-fly Popopo'), with the names forming parallels to the proposal's original title of Harukaze Popopo. Despite literally being designed to be antithetical to contemporary video game trends and accessible to a wider audience, the lower right corner of the advertisement describes Twinkle☆Popo as an 'orthodox action game' (正統派アクションゲーム), accompanied by a bizarre extra tagline of ポポポはポップで奥が深い ('POPOPO is POP and deep') and a release date of late January (1992). Popopo's speech bubble lays out the familiar story of an evil king stealing all the food from a peaceful Dream Land, and an adventure to collect the Sparkling Stars. The larger vertical text towards the left of the ad reads 君を見ていると、ずっと昔からおともだちだった気がするよ。 ('Looking at you, it feels like we've been friends since a long time ago.') The lower left corner is dedicated to Popopo's characteristics, including height (16 to 24 pixels, technically accurate), hobbies (napping), favourite phrase ('a new wind for tomorrow'), nose (nonexistent), hands (could be feathers? could be fins?), and so on, in ways that often resemble the later 'Kirby's secrets' document.
