Guess who's back... with friends?

This page serves as a disambiguation for characters and concepts related to Dark Matter as a group. You may be looking for the character.

The Dark Matter Clan[derived from Japanese] is a group of entities with the shared goal of plunging the universe (usually starting with Popstar, hence why it becomes Kirby's problem) into darkness. This page refers to confirmed members, suspected affiliates, and even those who reference the Dark Matter Clan.

Confirmed Members of the Dark Matter Clan

These individuals, in English, have occasionally been referred to collectively as "Dark Matter." While most of the members of the Dark Matter Clan are harmful, there stands a lone exception in Gooey, who is related to the other members but does not share their goals or methods.

  • Gooey: A friendly localization of Dark Matter who holds no hostilities toward Kirby and friends and shows no interest in the activities of other Dark Matter Clan members.
  • Dark Matter (character): A particular unique entity within the Clan acting as a higher-ranking elite. This localization acted as the primary antagonist in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and made a second appearance in Kirby's Dream Land 3. Will be referred to as "Dark Matter Blade" to avoid confusion in later text.
    • Dark Matter Blade Clone: While not a member of the Dark Matter Clan, the non-canon events of Meta Knightmare Returns depicted that the Haltmann Works Company had obtained samples of Dark Matter Blade and produced a clone, which is inherently related to Dark Matter as a whole due to its origins. This clone showed very limited capabilities to make use of talents related to Dark Matter Blade's true form, but the Special Page for the boss fight indicates that this clone was generated on incomplete data.
  • Dark Matter (cloud): A large swarm of entities similar to Dark Matter Blade's true form, coalesced into a large mass that travels between planets. The eye seen in the center of it is implied to be Zero's. It responds to the orders of both Dark Matter Blade and Zero.
  • Zero: A large eye-like creature. Zero is the leader of all Dark Matter forces prior to its defeat in Kirby's Dream Land 3.
  • "Dark Rimura/Rimuru/Rimuro": a trio of localizations of Dark Matter from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards responsible for shattering Ribbon's Crystal of power and possessing Kirby's friends.

Within the Dark Matter Clan, the order of command appeared to be that the Dark Matter cloud, either collectively or as individuals, took orders from Dark Matter Blade as well as Zero. Dark Matter Blade acted like a second-in-command relative to Zero, judging by the authority it had over the cloud. No indication has been given about Dark Rimura, Dark Rimuro, and Dark Rimuru as far as leadership goes. Finally, Gooey has completely abandoned the Dark Matter Clan, therefore not answering to any other member.

Suspected Members or Affiliates of the Dark Matter Clan

There are a handful of entities who are implied to be related to the Dark Matter Clan as an organization, but are left ambiguous by lack of information as the Kirby series went on to explore other villains. These entities are not confirmed to be related in any way to Dark Matter. Arguments for and against each member are included for reader consideration only.

  • : An implied successor to Zero in regards to the leadership of the Dark Matter Clan.
    • Arguments for:
      • 0² has a very similar name and function to Zero, both in story role and gameplay role. Each is the true mastermind lurking in the secret depths of Darkness, only revealed if all 72 Crystal Shards are collected. 0² also features a very conspicuous bandage on its head, suggesting a brutal injury along the lines of ocular ejection.
    • Arguments against:
      • 0² has been compared to Zero as if they were separate entities, and their exact relationship is played up as a mystery like Ado and Adeleine from the same two games.
  • Miracle Matter: a 20-sided shapeshifter featuring an eye-like design on each face of its standard form.
    • Arguments for:
      • Miracle Matter appears within a cloud overtaking the heart of Ripple Star's castle, one that bears some resemblance to Hyper Zone from Kirby's Dream Land 3. Also, it was obviously cooperating with 0² and the Dark Matter invasion force.
    • Arguments against:
      • Little information is given about Miracle Matter in general. No confirmation has been given regarding their relationship.
  • N-Z: a common enemy from Kirby 64: the Crystal Shards.
    • Arguments for:
      • N-Z appears on both planets visited by Dark Matter during its chase after Ribbon and the Crystal Shards: Pop Star and Ripple Star. It is also the only standard enemy to appear in Dark Star, a realm comprised entirely of Dark Matter.
    • Arguments against:
      • N-Z has a vastly different visual design compared to confirmed members of the Clan and did not appear in prior Dark Matter attacks.
  • Dark Mind:
    • Arguments for:
      • Features a humanoid form disguising a cycloptic ball form, one that heavily resembles the Dark Rimur-s, Dark Matter Blade's true form, and Zero.
    • Arguments against:
      • Highly unlikely to be related to the Dark Matter Clan due to being from the other side of the Dimension Mirror. Also, already implied to be a counterpart of Nightmare instead.
  • Dark Nebula: A star-shaped monster hailing from the depths of Kirby Squeak Squad.
    • Arguments for:
      • Features the same possession gimmick as Dark Matter Blade did, but this time with Daroach.
    • Arguments against:
      • Though named "Dark Zero" in the East Asian versions, its entry in the Japanese-exclusive 20th Anniversary Kirby Pupupu Encyclopedia explicitly states that the relationship between this entity and the Dark Matter Clan is unknown. English sources have never commented, though it's worth noting that the name change removes any reference to the Zero who led the Dark Matter Clan.
  • Master Crown: A headdress said by Magolor to contain "limitless power," which it promptly used to ultra-glue itself to his head and puppet his body like a toy - and later attempt to end Magolor's life via aggressive tree.
    • Arguments for:
      • Magolor Soul and his Main Mode counterpart bear heavy resemblance to Dark Matter, namely in the big red eye. Also feigns a smile later shown to be an eye, like 0² did. Most importantly, took control over Magolor's body and twisted it into a very bizarre form after Kirby weakened him with the Ultra Sword, much like Dark Matter has a habit of doing to King Dedede.
    • Arguments against:
      • Unlike most suspects, the Master Crown is supposedly inanimate.
  • Dark Crafter:
    • Arguments for:
      • Has some details that make it vaguely resemble other instances or suspects of Dark Matter origin, particularly a smile-shaped eye under a sunglasses-shaped unibrow.
    • Arguments against:
      • This weird glob is notably weirder than other Dark Matter suspects.
  • Void Termina:
    • Arguments for:
      • Void Termina features some prominent imagery of the Master Crown, as well as shifting between faces that resemble both 0² and Dark Matter when its core is revealed.
    • Arguments against:
      • While Void, an EX-DX-2.0 version of Void Termina's core, is described to be made of (lowercase) dark matter, it is also said to be made of heart, soul, and dream matter. Whatever that means.

Trivia

  • Although Zero demonstrated the ability to create localizations of Dark Matter that bear a striking resemblance to Dark Matter Blade's true form, no further evidence has been put forth to indicate that these individuals are part of a species.
