In this episode, the asteroid seen in the previous part looms closer to Dream Land and over the course of a few days is set to crash into it. After consulting with Kabu, the people of Cappy Town become resigned to their fate and prepare for the end, but Tiff and her cohorts endeavor to try and redirect the asteroid using Castle Dedede's cannons. Locations
Plot synopsis
The episode begins with a brief recap of the events of Prediction Predicament - Part I using an external narrator. From there, things begin proper in Cappy Town, where King Dedede is set to reveal a new construction in town which the people hope is the playground they were asking for. When the tarp is pulled, however, it is revealed to be a massive gold statue of Dedede wearing his full regalia, much to the crowd's consternation. They heckle him and demand he remove the statue and keep his promise to build the playground instead, and proceed to point out the asteroid looming large in the sky. Mabel then steps forward and insists that unless King Dedede builds the playground, the asteroid is sure to strike Dream Land, but Dedede and Escargoon laugh this off. Later on, the kids gather and spread information about the asteroid and its destructive potential, but most of those they talk to brush the threat off as unlikely. However, opinions begin to shift when reports of increased geologic activity spread around town, coinciding with doomsday prophecies.
Meanwhile at Castle Dedede, Tiff sees more ominous signs when she notices that all the castle's mice are fleeing. Meta Knight comments on the phenomenon, and implies that the kingdom is in great danger. The next morning, King Dedede continues to brush off the threat, but Escargoon is no longer of the same mind after a restless night. He points to the asteroid, which now rivals the Sun in size and is getting closer. Despite this clear warning, King Dedede still brushes him off, much to his annoyance. After a few more observations, however, King Dedede is finally convinced, and starts to panic. Meanwhile in the castle library, Tiff is trying to calculate the time when the asteroid is expected to strike. At the same time, the Cappies have gathered outside of Mayor Len's house to seek his council, and he directs them to ask Kabu for guidance. At Kabu Canyon, the great sage confirms that the asteroid will destroy Dream Land soon, and Tiff follows up by giving a more exact time: 48 hours from that moment. Resigned to their fate, the Cappies return home intent on spending their last moments as best they can, but Tiff is not ready to give up. She asks Kabu if there is anything that can be done, but he remains silent.
As the moment approaches, Kirby wakes to find the sky an ominous red, as the asteroid now looms large overhead. At the castle, Escargoon offers his resignation to King Dedede, as he wishes to return home to spend his last moments with his mother, but Dedede refuses to accept it, and forces his assistant to stay until the end. Dedede then spends his last few hours monkeying about the castle and forcing Escargoon to participate. Seeing this, Tiff resolves to do whatever she can to try and stop the asteroid, and Meta Knight, his soldiers, and Fololo & Falala offer to assist. Tiff then reveals that her plan is to try to use the castle's cannons to redirect the asteroid, and despite doubts about the efficacy of the plan, she insists they have to at least try. At that moment, however, the Booma-Dooma Volcano begins to erupt, in line with Kabu's prophecy. This forces the people of Cappy Town to evacuate to the castle.
Seeing the arrivals, King Dedede reacts naturally by trying to get them to leave, but Escargoon turns on him due to his sheer audacity. After taking a punch from Dedede, Escargoon finally reaches his breaking point and cries. The two then fully come to grips with the hopelessness of their situation and weep together. Meanwhile, the villagers take the moment to confess to each-other about various things they did over the years. King Dedede and Escargoon watch, and decide to confess to each-other as well. However, despite all his rotten deeds up to this point, Dedede presumes that he has never done anything worthy of confession, which causes Escargoon to balk and remind him of the unwanted gold statue he left in Cappy Town. Presuming this to be the one bad thing he ever did, King Dedede resolves to head down to Cappy Town while he still has time and rectify the situation by building the playground the Cappies asked for. A short time later, Kirby and Tokkori are staring at static on their television set, when King Dedede busts through the door and takes Kirby to see the playground. Kirby is overjoyed and jumps onto a swing, and King Dedede joins him and sings in melancholy fashion.
Shortly after, a catastrophic wind blows through the kingdom and Kirby and King Dedede are swept high into the air as the rest of the Dream Landers brace themselves. At this moment, Tiff and her crew ready the castle's cannons in a desperate bid to stop the asteroid. They fire them, but the cannonballs are stopped by the asteroid's force on the surrounding air. Tiff is dismayed at first, but then she sees Kirby passing through the air with King Dedede and calls for the Warp Star. The Warp Star catches Kirby, leaving Dedede to end up hoisted by his robe on the castle's highest spire. At Tiff's direction, Kirby inhales the cannonballs and then spits them back at the asteroid, redirecting it just enough so that it heads back into space, though it does come close enough to King Dedede to burn him up somewhat on its way out, thus affirming Mabel's original prediction. The episode ends as the town laughs at Dedede's misfortune and Kirby comes over to get him down.
Differences between versions
- In the Japanese version, Hohhe and Iro's confession scene is longer, and also involves Hohhe's father.
- In the Japanese version, an arrangement of the opening tune from the staff credits for Milky Way Wishes is used when Kirby is playing in the playground.
- Additionally, an arrangement of title theme for The Arena from Kirby Super Star is used when the burning star draws near Dream Land.
Dialogue differences
- In the Japanese version, Fumu provides the recap narration instead of an external narrator.
- Mabel's prediction in the 4Kids version stated that King Dedede would be meet with disaster unless he built the playground for Cappy Town. Despite actually building the playground, King Dedede was still charred by the asteroid, which appears to be a contradiction, particularly when Tuff points out that Mabel's prediction came true. In the Japanese version, Mabel predicted that Phantom Star Gerath would collide with Pupupu Land and cause King Dedede to be burned by its flames, which is much closer to what actually ends up happening.
- In the Japanese version, Chef Kawasaki comments on the omens of the asteroid by saying that he has been unable to catch fish lately, and surmises that global warming may be to blame. Tokkori responds by asserting that global warming is a fabrication.
- In the Japanese version, Chief Borun confesses that he wanted candy from Tuggle's store but was too ashamed to buy it, so he stole it.
- In the Japanese version, Iro confesses to Hohhe that he dug a hole and used it as a trap for him.
- In the Japanese version, Doctor Escargon confesses to King Dedede that he stole roughly a billion Deden from him, as opposed to 500 nickles in the 4Kids version.
- In the Japanese version, King Dedede sings a song on the swings that can be translated as such: "Life is short...fall in love, Dedede..." This is a reference to a famous Japanese film called ‘Ikiru’ (Live) by Akira Kuwasawa. The scene being referenced can be found at this link: YouTube clip.
