Transformations[1] are a type of Special Ability present in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. At certain points in some stages, Elline can use a canvas to transform Kirby into three different transformations based on vehicles. Each transformation has a special move Kirby can use once he accumulates 100 Point Stars. Any Waddle Dees present are also involved in the transformations, with each transformation having a different effect on them.

Transformation Locations Description
Deploy the Kirby Tank!, Woodland Battle Kirby becomes a small tank. This allows him to shoot cannonballs to attack enemies. He moves forward automatically, but his elevation can be changed with rainbow ropes. By collecting 100 Point Stars, Kirby Tank can use a powerful attack with various levels of charge, which allows him to shoot an array of cannonballs.
Kirby Submarine's Torpedo Time, Deep-Divin' Kirby Submarine Kirby becomes a small submarine. This allows him to fire torpedoes to attack enemies. He moves to where the stylus is tapped, and rainbow ropes are used to aim his torpedoes. By collecting 100 Point Stars, Kirby Submarine can fire a large Star Torpedo which pierces through most obstacles.
Kirby Rocket's Big Blastoff, Back to the Battleship, The Final Battle Kirby becomes a small rocket. In this state, he automatically flies forward and bounces off walls, destroying most obstacles and enemies he comes across. Rainbow ropes are used to aim his movement. By collecting 100 Point Stars, Kirby Rocket can perform a Star Dash akin to his usual form.

Trivia

Concept art from Kirby's Dream Land 2, showcasing Kirby transforming into various vehicles.
  • The transformations appear to be a homage to some of the original concepts of Animal Friends for Kirby's Dream Land 2. In concept art shown in Kirby Art & Style Collection, many ideas for vehicle-based transformations were shown, including one for a tank, one for a "deep sea" one, and one for a rocket, matching the three transformations from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. Moreover, in the the booklet for Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, it was explained that the initial proposal for the game included Kirby riding a tank, which was later changed to the Animal Friends after feedback. Finally, during the transformation sequences, Kirby briefly resembles the Animal Friends from Kirby's Dream Land 2: Rick for Kirby Tank, Kine for Kirby Submarine, and Coo for Kirby Rocket respectively. This is even more fitting considering they match the specialty of each Animal Friend (land, sea and skies, respectively).
