Category Name[edit]

Proposing to change the name of this category to "Articles containing non-English names" to avoid confusion with Category:Articles with titles from non-English languages; the "with" seems to imply that the articles themselves had a non-English name (as in article name/title) rather than simply containing a list of those. Also proposing to make this a hidden category, as the casual reader isn't going to profit from it much and it's showing up on nearly everything due to the widespread usage of the Names template.--Vellidragon 15:29, 9 February 2012 (CST)

I do not see a problem with this. So support from me. :) T.c.w7468 18:09, 9 February 2012 (CST)

Thought about this some more and there may in fact be a better way to deal with these in general. I'll still have to test if this works, but it may be possible to change the Names template to add the page to different categories depending on which language attributes are actually filled in; i.e. there could be categories for "Articles containing Japanese names", "Articles containing German names" etc. which the pages could be automatically added to. I seem to recall the point of categorising these to begin with was to make it easier for speakers of non-English languages to know where to possibly help out with translations, and having language-specific categories would make that much easier; right now, a French-speaking person for instance would have to look through hundreds of articles that (for example) only have a Japanese name listed when trying to find a French one, which seems rather disadvantageous if it's possible to handle this in the way I mentioned. All of these categories would be hidden, and probably grouped under the generic "Articles containing non-English names" category. Thoughts?--Vellidragon 15:12, 11 February 2012 (CST) EDIT: Just tested this in a preview and it appears to be working fine the way I planned it. That's rather unexpected.--Vellidragon 15:18, 11 February 2012 (CST)

Sounds good and useful. Support from me again :) T.c.w7468 17:12, 11 February 2012 (CST)
