Changes to anonymous editing[edit]

Today, we have changed how anonymous editing is handled on the wiki. Going forward, when an anonymous edit is submitted, the editor will be issued a temporary account. These temporary accounts will replace the publicly displayed IP addresses, improving editor privacy. A temporary account remains valid for 90 days or until the editor ends their session and can be used for communication like a regular user. To mitigate abuse, wiki staff is still able to see the IP address behind a temporary account. This change has no impact on editors who already possess an account.

Also following this change, due to incompatibilities, the account request system has been retired and user registrations no longer need to be manually approved by wiki staff.

Note: While we have tested the system and have solved the discovered technical issues, we may disable the system if any issues are later discovered. Any such decision will be communicated in a separate news post.
