Huh? Carrying a parasol on a nice day like this? I wanna see you pick up your opponents and swing them around!

Parasol (also called Umbrella in some titles) is an ability which has appeared in numerous Kirby games, and is obtained mainly from the Parasol enemy. However, it can also be received via Copy Essence Deluxes. The only physical change which takes place is the addition of the Parasol being equipped, and held. With the parasol equipped, Kirby can create a Parasol Waddle Dee as a Helper. The Parasol ability gives him upwards protection from falling enemies such as Coconuts , and a surrounding shield which will destroy enemies on impact. When combined with the Dash move, Kirby can charge and destroy all the enemies in front of him. This includes those in midair, but only if the move is used when off the ground. Not limited to full offensive attacks, if the Parasol Kirby holds touches an enemy, the enemy in question will either be destroyed and/or dealt damage. A notable feature of the ability is that Kirby receives extra speed while gliding. Plus, if Kirby uses this in front of fire, the fire will be doused.

In Kirby Star Allies, Parasol can be used to imbue other abilities with the Splash augment. It can also be used to activate Chumbrella, being one of the few Friend Abilities which does not require help from any friends.

He has copied Sasuke's abilities! He is Parasol Kirby!
— Meta Knight, in Cappy New Year

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Parasol Kirby makes an appearance on three different occasions. In Cappy New Year, Kirby obtains this ability by inhaling Sasuke in order to safely make it back down to the ground after being launched by a firework rocket high into the sky. In Escargoon Rules, Kirby swallows several Drifters to gain the ability, then uses the parasol to beat back the remaining Drifters and punish King Dedede for initiating the battle. In D'Preciation Day, Kirby gains this ability by inhaling Buttercup's umbrella, then uses the parasol to defeat Chuckie. Parasol Kirby has all of the same skills he has in the games, though the watery aspects of the ability have been removed.

Trivia

  • Parasol is one of the few Copy Abilities in recent games that does not give Kirby a hat or costume of any sort.
  • Barring certain non-standard Copy Ability appearances, Parasol is the most frequently-recurring Copy Ability in the Kirby series, with 17 total appearances.
