This article is about the Waddle Dee that appears in The Arena. For the regular ol' Waddle Dee, see this page (wait, that's not the right one).
No telling if it's true, but according to the ancient theories, Arena Waddle Dee may reappear in other games depending on whether HAL Laboratory gives him more lore. It seems this being of waddle will wander The Arena until one day he is brought back in a new game. When he returns, hopefully it will be…canon.
— Arena Waddle Dee pause screen text

Arena Waddle Dee[conjectural title][Jambandra title][derived from New Worldian][from internal data][citation needed][needs verification][sic][1], also referred to as ENEMY, BOSS, or simply Waddle Dee, is, unsurprisingly, a Waddle Dee. He first appeared in Kirby Super Star, where he is used as a joke boss (or possibly Mid-Boss) in The Arena, being completely motionless but having the most health out of any Waddle Dee. Later on, he would reappear in the Boss Endurance mode of Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, as well as the remake of Kirby Super Star: Kirby Super Star Ultra, always serving largely the same role in each game. Or at least, that's what people want you to think. In reality, he is secretly one of the most important characters in the Kirby series, making appearances in almost every game.

Physical appearance

KSS Waddle Dee.png
Arena Waddle Dee's sprite in Kirby Super Star, which is totally different from a regular Waddle Dee.

Arena Waddle Dee does not look like your typical Waddle Dee. Well, actually, he does, but that doesn't mean he's not special.[2] Just like many other Waddle Dees, he has a light orange skin with black eyes, and weird stubs instead of actual limbs. In Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Arena Waddle Dee gained a minor redesign, making him look identical to every other Waddle Dee in that game. Actually, the redesign happened in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, but he didn't officially appear in that game. Arena Waddle Dee once again got redesigned in Kirby Super Star Ultra, obtaining a very fabulous blue bandana, which he also wears in Revenge of the King. Just ignore the fact that this main game takes place after Spring Breeze, which is a retelling of Kirby's Dream Land, meaning that he somehow lost the bandana before the events of every other game. His lore is already confusing enough. Arena Waddle Dee's only movement consists of standing, walking, and jumping. This may not seem very impressive, but you will definitely be impressed with what else he can do in his unofficial appearances, unless you're already bored and want to read another page instead.

Personality

Arena Waddle Dee doesn't have much personality, but since he tries to fight Kirby[3] in The Arena, it's safe to assume that he's a very courageous Waddle Dee. This is further proven upon in a lot of his modern appearances, but mentioning those here would spoil the rest of this supercalifragilistic page. Anyhow, Arena Waddle Dee can also be described as very silly, foolish, or maybe even a nincompoop. This is mainly due to the fact that he is used as a joke in every official appearance, being the weakest enemy in every Boss Endurance mode he appears in. But we will always love him no matter what, and one day, he might clobbah dat dere Kirbeh.

Etymology

Arena Waddle Dee might also just be named after Waddle Dees.

The etymology Arena Waddle Dee's name might seem very obvious, but it's actually not. First, "Arena" may come from the word "harena", which can mean a sandy place in Latin. This fits Arena Waddle Dee's character greatly, since the arenas in which he is fought always seem to have sand on the ground. The word "Waddle" may be based on the old English word "wade", which means to walk with effort through water or another liquid, although this is unlikely, since Arena Waddle Dee is never seen doing that (he didn't even walk until his second official appearance). Lastly, the word "Dee" may come from "Deez Nuts", a famous internet meme that started gaining a lot of popularity in 2015, but the phrase itself has been around since 1992.

Moveset

Due to being a boss in so many Kirby games, Arena Waddle Dee has a large number of signature attacks which he uses in most of his fights. That sentence definitely wasn't copied from another page, just like the following table, which lists all of Arena Waddle Dee's most notable attacks in the order they first appeared in:

Arena Waddle Dee's moveset
Name First game used Description Notes
Stand Kirby Super Star Arena Waddle Dee does literally nothing. He's just standing there… MENACINGLY! It's not very menacing.
Walk Kirby & The Amazing Mirror Arena Waddle Dee walks forward (left, towards Kirby's start point). Once he reaches the end of the screen, he starts walking the other way (right, towards not Kirby's start point). He walks slightly faster than a regular Waddle Dee. Maybe. Actually probably not.
Jump Kirby Super Star Ultra Arena Waddle Dee jumps forward in the same direction he's walking in. This attack might be a reference to Mario Mario from Mario, since he also jumps.[4] Mario even used to be called Jumpman, what a funny name!
Shooter Cutter Kirby Fighters 2 Arena Waddle Dee shoots out four boomerangs, which don't grant the Cutter ability, since that's not how Copy Abilities work in Kirby Fighters 2. This attack is an overused reference to the boss fight with Marx in Kirby Super Star. Added in version 3.0.0

Game appearances

Arena Waddle Dee's appearances, with appearances in bold being the only ones that matter
Game Role Notes
Kirby series
Kirby's Dream Land Enemy (somewhere, probably) This is the first appearance of Waddle Dees in general. One of these just has to be Arena Waddle Dee, right?
Kirby's Adventure Enemy This is the first game to have a Boss Endurance, as well as a literal Arena, yet Arena Waddle Dee is fought in neither.
Kirby's Pinball Land Enemy exclusive to Wispy-Woods Land This is the first game to only feature one Waddle Dee. This undoubtedly means that this Waddle Dee is Arena Waddle Dee.
Kirby's Dream Course Enemy Why do Waddle Dees have green feet in this game?
Kirby's Avalanche First opponent This is the second game to only feature one Waddle Dee.
Kirby's Dream Land 2 Enemy Waddle Dees can be unnecessarily fast in this game.
Kirby's Block Ball Enemy Waddle Dees can be both blocks and balls.
Kirby's Toy Box Existing, giving 100 points to Kirby This is the third game to only have one Waddle Dee.
Kirby Super Star First official appearance as a boss Well, as official as you can get.
Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy) Playable character This is the first game where a regular Waddle Dee is playable.
Kirby's Dream Land 3 Enemy This is the first game where a Waddle Dee HOG RIDER.
Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom) First opponent (again) This is the fourth game to only have one Waddle Dee.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Supporting protagonist, boss, and playable character in Sub-Games This is the fifth game to only have one Waddle Dee, and the third time a Waddle Dee is playable.
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble Enemy This is the first game that doesn't have a clever note in this wiki table.
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land Enemy This is surprisingly not the last time Kirby's Adventure has been remade.
Kirby Air Ride Enemy This is the last Kirby game according to Masahiro Sakurai.
Kirby Slide None Since this game does not include characters, it is impossible for Arena Waddle Dee to make an appearance. Despite this, the game is still in the list of his appearances, since including every game is funny.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror Second official appearance as a boss (or Mid-Boss?) Arena Waddle Dee is 8 pixels smaller compared to his appearance in Kirby Super Star.
Kirby: Canvas Curse Enemy and playable character You can play as a Waddle Dee despite them also being enemies, which is kind of weird.
Kirby: Squeak Squad Enemy and playable character, perchance Kirby can use the Ghost ability to control a Waddle Dee. This may hint at the fact that Waddle Dees have souls, possibly being a reference to a certain soul boss.
Kirby Super Star Ultra First true appearance as a boss, but again Arena Waddle Dee gains a blue bandana in this game, which might be a reference to Blue Bandanna Waddle Dee.
Kirby's Epic Yarn Possibly The Yarn Waddle Dees aren't real Waddle Dees, so maybe Arena Waddle Dee doesn't appear.
Kirby Mass Attack Cameo in Strato Patrol EOS Appears during the boss fight against Meta Knight.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Playable character This is the first time Arena Waddle Dee is actually useful.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition Various Arena Waddle Dee appears so many times in this game, because it has multiple games in it.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe Supporting character Despite the return of The Arena, Arena Waddle Dee does not return in the mode.
Kirby Fighters Deluxe Why are you reading this? He doesn't even have a role!
Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe Reference King Dedede can wear a Waddle Dee mask, which happens to look exceptionally similar to Arena Waddle Dee. That can't be a coincidence.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse Playable characters They're multiplying.
Kirby: Planet Robobot Supporting character Despite the return of The Arena, Arena Waddle Dee does not return in the mode. Again.
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe Supporting character This game actually takes place in an alternate dimension, meaning that it has different versions of most characters.
Kirby's Blowout Blast Enemy Since this is a retelling of Kirby's Dream Land, Arena Waddle Dee might be hidden among the regular enemy Waddle Dees. But that's just a theory. A Kirby theory.
Kirby Battle Royale Supporting protagonist For unknown reasons, Bandana Waddle Dee is not playable.
Kirby Star Allies Playable character They're multiplying again.
Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn Less possibly This game is not extra epic.
Super Kirby Clash Supporting character This game once again takes place in an alternate dimension with different versions of most characters.
Kirby Fighters 2 Playable character Arena Waddle Dee was added as a playable character in version 3.0.0, despite Bandana Waddle Dee already being in playable.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land Supporting protagonist and playable character If you ever want a second player to join you, just let him know. He'll always be ready!
Kirby's Dream Buffet Reference Kirby can impersonate Arena Waddle Dee in this game.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe Playable character Reprises his usefulness from Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
Super Smash Bros. series
Super Smash Bros. None There is not a single Waddle Dee in the first game.
Super Smash Bros. Melee Trophy Erm, actually, the Super Smash Bros. universe is just a child playing with toys, so these shouldn't count as official appearances.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Various Luigi knows the true potential of a Waddle Dee.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Enemy Run.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirits The Waddle Dee spirit can be enhanced to Bandana Waddle Dee.

Kirby's Dream Land

KDL Waddle Dee sprite.png Waddle Dees make their debut appearance in Kirby's Dream Land, the first game in the Kirby series. Unfortunately, not a single Waddle Dee in this game has a distinct identity. This means that Arena Waddle Dee also does not officially appear in this game. However, since Kirby travels throughout a large portion of Dream Land in this game, it would make sense that at least one of the Waddle Dees he came across might have been Arena Waddle Dee. Additionally, in this game's Extra Game, certain Waddle Dees can be seen jumping, which Arena Waddle Dee is also seen doing in future appearances. Sadly, Extra Game is probably not canon.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

A Waddle Dee-less Arena in Kirby's Adventure (top) and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land (not top).

Arenas make their debut appearance in Kirby's Adventure, the second game in the Kirby series, and reappear in its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. However, the Arenas in this game are different from The Arena in future games. In these Arenas, instead of fighting multiple bosses and Mid-Bosses in a row in one single mode, Kirby instead fights one Mid-Boss at a time in multiple smaller arenas. Unfortunately, none of the arenas let Kirby fight Arena Waddle Dee. This game also features the very first Boss Endurance of the series, but since this mode doesn't even have Mid-Bosses, Arena Waddle Dee had no chance of appearing. Luckily, since this game is a lot longer than Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby might have coincidentally come across Arena Waddle Dee again.

Arena Waddle Dee can't be found in the following levels and stages:

Kirby's Pinball Land

In Kirby's Pinball Land, only a single Waddle Dee appears, being exclusive to Wispy-Woods Land. By process of elimination, this has to be Arena Waddle Dee, or is that not how process of elimination works?

Kirby's Dream Course

For unknown reasons, every Waddle Dee in Kirby's Dream Course has green feet. Since Arena Waddle Dee does not have green feet, it is likely that he does not appear in this game. This game is still listed in this page because it's funny.

Kirby's Avalanche

Umm, can't we just walk together? The forest scares me...
— Waddle Dee's first words

Kirby's Avalanche once again only has a single Waddle Dee, being the first opponent in the game. Unfortunately, process of elimination does not work with only a single subject. Although, this is one of the few Waddle Dees that has ever been seen speaking, one of the others being Arena Waddle Dee. Therefore, there is a likely chance that this is also Arena Waddle Dee.

Kirby's Dream Land 2

Kirby Hat Studio Waddle Dee Plush.jpg
An unrelated image.

As the name implies, Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a direct sequel to Kirby's Dream Land, meaning that it does not have Arena Waddle Dee (or Arena Waddle Dee 2: Electric Boogaloo). However, this game marks the return of Waddle Dees that can jump, this time actually appearing in the main story mode of the game.

Kirby's Block Ball

KBBa Waddle Dee sprite.png Waddle Dees appear as common enemies in Kirby's Block Ball. They are worth 300 points when bumped into and defeated and will drop food.

Kirby's Toy Box

Once again, only a single Waddle Dee appears in Kirby's Toy Box, being exclusive to the Pinball mini-game. Instead of being Arena Waddle Dee, this might be the same Waddle Dee from Kirby's Pinball Land, who shall be nicknamed Pinball Waddle Dee.

However, this game also had trial versions of both Samurai Kirby and Megaton Punch, which unfortunately cannot be found anywhere online. However, according to several sources, these were actually exact same versions of these Sub-Games that would later appear in Kirby Super Star, meaning that there is a second Waddle Dee in this game, appearing only in Megaton Punch, which will be covered in the Kirby Super Star section of this page.

Kirby Super Star

Arena Waddle Dee, moments before being hit in the face by Hammer Kirby.

KSS Waddle Dee.png Alas, Arena Waddle Dee finally makes his first real appearance in Kirby Super Star. In this game, Arena Waddle Dee appears exclusively in the final mode of the game: The Arena, where he is randomly chosen as one of the first 18 fights before the final boss. He is fought in the same colosseum as both of the Mid-Boss All Stars, which also appears in the background of the victory screen after Kirby beats The Arena, and seems to feature the great King Dedede.

Arena Waddle Dee's behaviour in this game is very simple. In fact, it's non-existent, as he simply stands still and can only be moved from being attacked by Kirby. Arena Waddle Dee has the highest amount of health out of every Waddle Dee in Kirby Super Star, but can be easily defeated with a simple inhale.[5] Despite actually being called Arena Waddle Dee[conjectural title][Jambandra title][derived from New Worldian][from internal data][citation needed][needs verification][sic][1], he is only referred to as ENEMY in this game's UI, just like most other bosses in Kirby Super Star. Even though Arena Waddle Dee has a light orange skin tone during his actual fight, his icon in the rest area before shows him with a much more darker skin.

Attacks

The following lists all of Arena Waddle Dee's attacks in The Arena of Kirby Super Star. All attack names are 100% official and not conjectural whatsoever.

Other possible appearances

KSS Megaton Punch Bandana Waddle Dee sprite.png
The mysterious bandana-wearing Waddle Dee.

Surprisingly, Arena Waddle Dee is not the only Waddle Dee with above average power in Kirby Super Star. In the single-player mode of Megaton Punch, one of the two Sub-Games present in this game, Kirby battles against three different opponents to see who can punch the biggest crack into Planet Popstar. The first of these opponents is a Waddle Dee wearing a blue bandana. This Waddle Dee is likely the most powerful Waddle Dee in the Kirby series, being able to do a single punch of up to 167 megaton (167000 kiloton) (167000000 ton) (71250427008362410 kilogram-force meter) (a lot). Unfortunately, since this Waddle Dee is the first opponent, Kirby has a pretty easy time defeating him in this competition. Despite the fact that this is the second time a powerful Waddle Dee is introduced in this one game, it is unclear whether or not this Waddle Dee and Arena Waddle Dee are one and the same (for now).

Information on Arena Waddle Dee's role in Kirby Super Star Ultra will be covered here, since it makes the most sense chronologically.

Kirby's Star Stacker

In Kirby's Star Stacker on the Game Boy, player 2 controls a Waddle Dee in the Vs. Mode. This is the second time we see a Waddle Dee directly challenging Kirby, which may be a hint that this is Arena Waddle Dee, especially considering that this is the first game to release after Kirby Super Star, the first game Arena Waddle Dee officially appeared in.

In the Japanese-exclusive Kirby's Star Stacker on the Super Famicom, a Waddle Dee serves as the first opponent in the game's Story Mode, similar to his role in Kirby's Avalanche. If this Waddle Dee is the same one as that game, it might mean that this one is also Arena Waddle Dee.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

As the name implies, Kirby's Dream Land 3 does not feature Arena Waddle Dee, Arena Waddle Dee 2: Electric Boogaloo, or Arena Waddle Dee 3: Tokyo Drift. However, Waddle Dees can be seen riding Nruffs and rafts in this game, which is pretty neat but completely irrelevant.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

"He's right behind me, isn't he?"
Main article: Waddle Dee (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards)

Just like a couple of the previous games, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards only has a single Waddle Dee, known as Waddle Dee. But this Waddle Dee is special, since he's one of the main characters in the game. He is first seen in Pop Star - Stage 1, where he gets possessed by Dark Matter and turns into a Waddle Doo. Ignoring the weird lore implications, Kirby beats him up and Waddle Dee joins him on his journey. Since this is such a cool Waddle Dee, he might actually be Arena Waddle Dee, who is also very cool. A common theory in the Kirby community suggests that Waddle Dee (the one from this game) is actually Bandana Waddle Dee, but since Waddle Dee (the one this section is talking about) clearly does not have a bandana, there is no way that this theory is actually correct.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble

This little guy will be found throughout the courses. Each time Kirby touches him, some of Kirby's vitality will be taken away.
— Description of Waddle Dees from the Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble North American instruction booklet

The manual of Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble confirms that Waddle Dees are little guys.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2 does not confirm anything, since the game never released.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

An innocent Waddle Dee, likely originally modeled for Kirby for Nintendo GameCube, but destined to be stuck in the same pose for all of eternity, being nothing but a simple collectible model in a rushed game, never being looked at by the remaining playerbase.

After being completely absent from the original Super Smash Bros., a single Waddle Dee appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee in the form of a Trophy. Since Trophies are confirmed to be real sentient beings turned into collectible figurines, this implies that this Waddle Dee Trophy is actually a real Waddle Dee turned into a Trophy, which could possibly be Arena Waddle Dee.

This game also introduced All-Star Mode to the Super Smash Bros. series, which is heavily inspired by The Arena, also having the player fight every opponent in the game with limited healing items. Regardless of this, Arena Waddle Dee unfortunately does not appear in this mode.

Kirby Air Ride

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Waddle Dees appear as regular enemies in Kirby Air Ride. The character that should really be talking about is Windmill Tree, who debuted in this game's Fantasy Meadows course. It is a big tree with insect-like leaves, and when flown through in Fantasy Meadows, several Dales can be found inside. Ever since this game, various Windmill Trees have made appearances in almost every game in the Kirby series, whether it be a small cameo or a major background element.

Its most famous appearance is in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, where the tree is visible in the background of the title screen and the first stage of Cookie Country, as well as appearing in a bubble of sorts in the Landia section of Another Dimension. This tree does look very different from the original one, haing a thicker trunk, a second smaller set of leaves, and leaves that actually look like leaves. A mechanized version of this tree can be found in Kirby: Planet Robobot. Multiple Windmill Trees can also be seen in the Grasslands in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, supporting a design that's a sort of mix between the original's four insect-like leaves and the redesign's second set of leaves and thicker trunk. The lore significance of these many Windmill Trees is still unknown.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Arena Waddle Dee, moments after being hit in the face by Hammer Kirby.

KNiDL Waddle Dee sprite.png Arena Waddle Dee finally makes his triumphant return in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. Just like every other main-series game since Kirby's Adventure, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror has its very own Boss Endurance mode. Since this mode is just called Boss Endurance, Arena Waddle Dee is often nicknamed Boss Endurance Waddle Dee when referring to his appearance in this game. However, despite this mode being called Boss Endurance, this mode is more similar to The Arena, since it lets Kirby choose any of his Copy Abilities, as well as giving him Maxim Tomatoes in rest areas. This similarity might be the reason for Arena Waddle Dee's long-awaited return. Furthermore, every battle is also fought in a random order (except for the last two bosses), but unlike in The Arena, Arena Waddle Dee does not have his own battle. Instead, he is fought in one of the three Mid-Boss battles, being the first foe before Kirby battles Bombar and Box Boxer. Kirby also has the ability to call his friends in this game, but luckily for Arena Waddle Dee, the CPUs are so stupid that they're just going to get hit and lose their Copy Abilities. Arena Waddle Dee is once again fought in a colosseum, but the audience is a lot closer and easier to see in this game, which now consists Cappies, Scarfies, Waddle Doos, and even other Waddle Dees.

The following lists Arena Waddle Dee's attack in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. The attack name is conjectural, probably.

Arena Waddle Dee's attack in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Attack Description Note
Walk Arena Waddle Dee waddles forward like any other Waddle Dee. Once he reaches the edge of the screen, he starts walking in the opposite direction. One must imagine a Waddle Dee happy.

However, there could be an argument made that this Waddle Dee is actually different from Arena Waddle Dee. For one, this Waddle Dee supports a slightly different design from the way Arena Waddle Dee looked in Kirby Super Star, but this could be argued as being a simple non-canon redesign, just like King Dedede (who for some reason is completely absent in this game). Another argument could be that this game takes place in the Mirror World, and that there is no way Arena Waddle Dee could have traveled here. However, he could have simply used the Dimension Mirror, and other characters like Moley also inexplicably travel between the Mirror World and Planet Popstar. Therefore, this myth is completely busted.

KaTAM Big Waddle Dee Sprite.png This game also introduced Big Waddle Dees to the Kirby series. Epic!

Kirby for Nintendo GameCube

In everyone's favorite Kirby game Kirby for Nintendo GameCube, Waddle Dees once again reappear as regular enemies in all three builds of this game. But no Arena Waddle Dee. Boring.

Kirby: Canvas Curse

KCC Waddle Dee sprite.png In Kirby: Canvas Curse, Waddle Dees unsurprisingly reappear as regular enemies, and can be easily defeated by Kirby simply rolling into them.

KCC Waddle Dee Ball sprite.png However, after the game is beaten once, a Waddle Dee will be unlocked as a playable character. Just like every other playable character, this Waddle Dee is shaped like a ball, and can not move around on his own, which is kind of cruel. This Waddle Dee has the exact same size and health as Kirby, but is unable to copy abilities, which makes his addition to the playable roster feel very pointless. Seriously, why is he there?

Kirby: Squeak Squad

In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Waddle Dees appear as common enemies and can be controlled by using the Ghost ability. However, the only thing they can do is jump. In addition to this, a golden variant appears, giving a treasure chest if defeated. What more is there to say?

Various Waddle Dees appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, being included in King Dedede's entrance, Waddle Dee Toss side special move, Waddle Dee Army Final Smash, and victory pose. The Waddle Dee Trophy also returns. A couple Waddle Dees also appear in a cutscene in The Subspace Emissary, but this game once again lacks the presence of Arena Waddle Dee.

Kirby Super Star Ultra

And here we are! The third and final official appearance of Arena Waddle Dee: Kirby Super Star Ultra. Since this game is a remake of Kirby Super Star, Arena Waddle Dee will obviously be completely unchanged from his original appearance.

Needs an image of the Waddle Dee "boss fight" in The Arena in Kirby Super Star Ultra.

KSSU Bandana Waddle Dee Sprite.png Arena Waddle Dee's first appearance in Kirby Super Star Ultra unsurprisingly has him reprise his role as being a joke boss in The Arena. Arena Waddle Dee has two "attacks" not present his Kirby Super Star incarnation, in the form of walking and jumping. Additionally, instead of already being present off-screen when Kirby enters the battlefield, he is instead seen spawning into existence on-screen near the middle of the arena, exactly like other Mid-Bosses in Kirby Super Star Ultra. This game also sees the introduction of The True Arena to the Kirby series, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a True Arena Waddle Dee. Arena Waddle Dee is also once again given a very minor redesign, since this game redid all of Kirby Super Star's pixel art due to it being on the Nintendo DS. However, strangely enough, he has also been given a blue bandana. This very likely confirms that the bandana-wearing Waddle Dee from Megaton Punch and Arena Waddle Dee are actually the same character! Since he still doesn't have an official name, this might mean that Arena Waddle Dee should be renamed to Megaton Punch Waddle Dee, but since that's a stupid name, and since there's absolutely nothing else he could be named after, he will continue to be referred to as Arena Waddle Dee.

Megaton Punch

Since Arena Waddle Dee is now practically confirmed to be Megaton Punch Waddle Dee, a summary on his role in Megaton Punch should also be covered here. Disappointingly, his role is exactly the same as in Kirby Super Star, simply being the first opponent Kirby faces in his planet-destroying competition. But hey, at least it makes powerscaling a lot more interesting. The only thing about this Sub-Game that was changed in Kirby Super Star Ultra was the removal of two-player support, but this mode always made player 2 play as Knuckle Joe anyway, so the only reason it was brought up is to extend the length of this page.

Revenge of the King

Great King, pull yourself together!
— Arena Waddle Dee in Revenge of the King, The Revenge, Kirby Super Star Ultra

Arena Waddle Dee's undoubtedly biggest role in Kirby Super Star Ultra is in Revenge of the King, specifically in the fifth and final stage: The Revenge. After Kirby defeats Kabula in Mt. Dedede Sky, he comes crashing into Castle Dedede. Arena Waddle Dee immediately warns King Dedede about this, telling him to stay calm. After Kirby defeats the many Mid-Bosses, the only option left to defeat Kirby is Arena Waddle Dee himself. Unfortunately, just like in The Arena, he isn't a very formidable foe. After his inevitable defeat, he manages to make his way back safely, and gets to sit in the background to watch Masked Dedede battle against Hammer Kirby.

After Dedede is dededefeated, he can be seen sadly strolling through the desert, with a bunch of Waddle Dees, including Arena Waddle Dee, following right behind. In the same staff credits, a sprite of Kirby and Arena Waddle Dee both using a Nintendo DS is used as the icon for the "Testing" credits. Even though this may be the very last of Arena Waddle Dee's appearances as the infamous joke boss, it certainly wouldn't be his last appearance in the series.

Attacks

The following lists all of Arena Waddle Dee's attacks in The Arena and Revenge of the King in Kirby Super Star Ultra. All attack names are completely made up and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Arena Waddle Dee's attacks in Kirby Super Star Ultra
Attack Description Note
Walk Arena Waddle Dee walks forward at an incredibly slow pace, slower than any other Waddle Dee ever, even slower than in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. This attack carries over from his appearance in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
Jump After around every three seconds of walking, Arena Waddle Dee jumps upward in the same direction he's currently walking in. This jump is a bit lower than that of Kirby's. Did you know that Arena Waddle Dee can jump higher than the Eiffel Tower? That's because the Eiffel Tower can't jump!

Kirby's Epic Yarn / Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn

KEY Waddle Dee artwork.png
An impostor among us.

Kirby's Epic Yarn and its demake feature many different Waddle Dees made out of yarn. However, according to an in-game interlude, these are not actual Waddle Dees, but instead impostors created by Yin-Yarn. Therefore, it would be very suspicious if Arena Waddle Dee actually did appear in this game.

Kirby Mass Attack

In the Kirby Mass Attack Sub-Game Strato Patrol EOS, a Waddle Dee wearing a blue bandana makes a cameo in the boss fight against Meta Knight. Since this mode has the Kirbys fight multiple bosses similar to The Arena, and due to Arena Waddle Dee being the only Waddle Dee that has ever b een seen wearing a bandana, it's safe to say that this is indeed Arena Waddle Dee. Sailor Waddle Dee from Revenge of Meta Knight can also be seen on the other side of the screen, disproving the popular fan theory that Arena Waddle Dee and Sailor Waddle Dee are the same character.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

After being defeated by Kirby multiple times, Arena Waddle Dee somehow became his best friend.

Arena Waddle Dee once again reappears in Kirby's Return to Dream Land for arguably his biggest role. In this game, he gets to be one of the main four playable characters, along with Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede. Unfortunately, his moveset is an exact copy of the Spear ability's moveset, with the only difference being that he uses Infinity Jumps instead of a hover. This is also the first time he has a name in-game, simply being called Waddle Dee, despite this game already having Waddle Dees as regular enemies. Due to this, one might assume that he is often nicknamed Spear Waddle Dee, but unfortunately that enemy already exists (making him even less original). Other than being a playable character and appearing in cutscenes, he doesn't play a large role. However, this game also sees the long-awaited return of The Arena, meaning that Arena Waddle Dee can still fulfill his life long goal of being a competent fighter in The Arena!

In the Nintendo Switch remake of this game, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Arena Waddle Dee is named Bandana Waddle Dee, but since this chronologically doesn't happen yet, it will be ignored in this page for now.

Moveset

The following table shows Arena Waddle Dee's very unoriginal moveset in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition

Arena Waddle Dee appears alongside other Waddle Dees in the intro cinematic for Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition. Since this game is actually a collection of previous games, he also reprises his role in Kirby Super Star.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhi:)

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Arena Waddle Dee plays a very minor role, only appearing in stages to give Kirby (and King Dedede in Dededetour!) food items in the form of Assist Stars. Other than that, he unfortunately does absolutely nothing, since despite the fact that The Arena returns in this game, Arena Waddle Dee is nowhere to be seen in it.

However, on the official Kirby: Triple Deluxe website and in the game's manual, Arena Waddle Dee is actually referred to as Bandana Waddle Dee! However, that would mean that this whole page would need to be redone, from the title, to every single time Arena Waddle Dee is referred to by that name. Since that is obviously way too much effort, here are three reasons why Bandana Waddle Dee should actually be called Arena Waddle Dee:

  1. Bandana Waddle Dee is obviously named after his bandana, but what would happen if he were to lose it? Would he just be called Waddle Dee again? Arena Waddle Dee should definitely have a way to be distinguished from other Waddle Dees, due to being the most important Waddle Dee ever created by the legendary Masahiro Sakurai, and he can't be distinguished by his spear or parasol because there are already Waddle Dees using both weapons!
  2. Being named after the thing you're wearing is a lot lamer than being named after the things you do, just like how people in real life have last names based on jobs. Waddle Dees are named after the fact that they waddle, Rolling Waddle Dees are named after the fact that they roll, Swinging Waddle Dees are named after the fact that they swing, and Dracula Waddles are named after the fact that they Dracula, so why should Arena Waddle Dee be any different?
  3. Arena Waddle Dee[conjectural title][Jambandra title][derived from New Worldian][from internal data][citation needed][needs verification][sic][1] is obviously the original name of the character, and according to WiKirby's writing unspecifics, the original name of a character should always be used instead of their updated one. Or at least I think that's what it says, I haven't actually read the full page yet. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play Animal Crossing: New Leaf on my Nintendo 3DS.

Seeing as that's finally over, you can now continue reading this supercalifragilistic page on Arena Waddle Dee.

Music

The composer of "Arena Showdown", Jun Ishikawa, was confused when told that Arena Waddle Dee needed his own theme music.[6]
Main article: Arena Showdown

Due to being such an important character, Arena Waddle Dee has his very own theme music, which is known as "Arena Showdown" (also simply referred to as "The Arena"). Just like all other music in the Kirby series, it is actually a remix of "Green Greens" from Kirby's Dream Land. This is due to the fact that its composer, Jun Ishikawa, can only see the color green.

Composition

I think it would be funny to add a composition section here, but with just complete nonsense or random jokes and just mentioning random leitmotifs for no reason etc. Gee, I sure do wonder who could do something like that!
