"Candy Mountain"[Japanese title] is a theme from Kirby Super Star. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.[1]
Composition[edit]
"Candy Mountain" is a very fast upbeat song. Its intro starts in the key of E-flat major, until it quickly goes into the "first verse" of the song (it then goes into C major). After the said first verse, it introduces the "chorus" of the song. After repeating the verse, it repeats the chorus again, but it goes into the chorus a bit longer, including a short part in E-flat major. After that, it repeats the verse two times again with a different sounding lead instrument each time. It then does the chorus after each verse part (at the respective times), and the theme loops afterwards.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]
"Candy Mountain" appears three times in Kirby Super Star and its remake - in Candy Mountain in Dyna Blade, in the third chapter of Revenge of Meta Knight, and in Skyhigh in Milky Way Wishes. It can be found as track 19 and 022 in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra's Sound Tests, respectively.
Kirby Air Ride[edit]
In Kirby Air Ride, the original version appears as an alternate theme of Grass. It can be unlocked by getting 1st place and hitting five of more Dash Panels on the course in question. It can be found as track 033 in the game's Sound Test, where it is called "Kirby Super Star: The Mountain".
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]
In Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, "Candy Mountain" is the first theme featured in "Kirby Medley", along with "Gourmet Race", "Stage: Comical", and "Green Greens". It can be found as a Treasure in Burning Secrets, and later as track 26 in the game's Music Room.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
The original version is reused as the theme for all but the last stage of Kirby 3D Rumble - Level 2. It can be found as track 063 in the game's Jukebox.
Other appearances[edit]
The theme can be heard in a few episodes such as One Crazy Knight and A Half-Baked Battle in the Japanese version of Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.
"Candy Mountain" is present in the game files for Kirby Star Allies, but goes unused. It has the same file name it does in Kirby: Planet Robobot - TTSUBDYNA1
.
The theme was performed live at the Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival as part of the "Kirby Through the Years: 1993-2004" medley, along with "Drawing Song", "Title Screen" from Kirby's Adventure, "Grass Land" from Kirby's Dream Land 2, "Peanut Plains", "The Last Iceberg", "Heading for 0²", and "Ending" from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
