“ | A once-per-day 100-Kirby battle! Select Enter Battleground to compete against other Kirbys from around the world! | ” | — In-game description of Samurai Kirby 100 from Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe |
Samurai Kirby 100 is a special variant of Samurai Kirby that appears exclusively in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, accessible from Merry Magoland after playing Samurai Kirby at least once. It pits Kirby against 99 other Kirbys based on the most recent reaction times in the game from players around the world. While it is not played live against these other players, it requires a Nintendo Switch Online connection in order to obtain data for those reaction times. The game can be played if it is not connected to the internet, but it will only generate CPU "wandering adversaries" for the player to compete against.
Gameplay[edit]
Samurai Kirby 100 is the only subgame in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe that is not played with more than one player at a time. Instead, Player 1 takes Kirby into the game in order to compete with other players' times. A long line-up of these player Kirbys (which can be seen wearing different Dress-Up Masks) appear on the battlefield, stretching into the distance until they cannot be seen anymore. Before the round starts, all the names of the players whose times are represented will be shown. Once the signal to strike is given and followed, a scene will play out where the player's Kirby plows through every opponent that he was faster than until meeting the last opponent he can best. After this, the player is shown a stats board showing how many opponents they defeated, and where they place overall on the rankings for that particular group of 100. Notably, the player may only have their attempt recorded on the rankings once per day, but may replay as many times as they want afterward or practice rounds against CPU opponents otherwise.
Samurai Kirby 100 has its own place in the plaza for Merry Magoland, represented by a large spinning globe, rather than being tied to the main Samurai Kirby mode at the castle. It is the only subgame in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe which cannot be accessed from inside the Lor Starcutter.
