The Wii U is an eighth-generation home console system first released in the Americas on November 18, 2012. It is the successor to the Wii, and was succeeded by the Nintendo Switch.
Overview
The Wii U built on the capabilities of the Wii, by including HD graphics, enhanced memory and processing, and more sensitive motion controls. Its primary feature is the Game Pad, which has a touch screen, in addition to functioning like a regular controller. It also includes a built-in motion sensor, sensor bar, rechargeable battery, amiibo sensor, and camera. The Wii U is also compatible with all of the Wii Games, effectively having a complete Wii emulator, and Wii remotes can be used to play on it.
Despite these features, however, the Wii U has consistently suffered poor overall sales, especially compared to its predecessor, and ended up in third place in the major console market, falling behind the Xbox One and Playstation 4 in sales.
