"The Wastes Where Life Began" is a stage theme from Kirby and the Forgotten Land that plays in the stage with the same name, as well as Searching the Oasis and the first area of Moonlight Canyon. It was composed by Yuuta Ogasawara.[1]
Composition[edit]
"The Wastes Where Life Began" is a theme in C Phrygian dominant and 6/8. It features two main elements: a resolute syncopated tutti which serves as the intro and transitions, and more lyrical solos with a repeated phrase at its core, both revolving around the tonic C. The second element comes in as the main melody, alternating between an oud and a flute. The first element plays again, once more followed by the oud, now backed by an oboe, followed by a piccolo and shehnai. The first element starts but is cut short by a flute, which brings the lyrical second element to E-flat major. From there, the strings continue and reach the melody's peak with lush harmonies. However, the shehnai returns the melody to the minor reality. Building up gradually, it suspends at its last high point. The first element plays again with cymbal crashes asserting its dominance, made compact in the shorter and more irregular 5/8 time signature. Phrases from the second element can be heard as an afterthought. The track loops from the entrance of the second element.
