Regarding audio files

Heya! I noticed you uploaded File:Kirby Super Star Ultra Havoc Aboard the Halberd Sample.oga, and I appreciate that, however you uploaded more than 30 seconds of the song. Could you please reupload the file following our audio policies? Thank you! - Gigi (talkedits) 19:15, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

I decided to go ahead and reupload the file with the correct cropping. Due to copyright, I had to delete your upload of the audio. Please just keep the audio policy in mind next time you upload one to the wiki. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. - Gigi (talkedits) 19:41, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
I did try to crop it, however, I didn't have compatible software, so I just decided to upload the full version. Is there any software used to crop OGA files? Thanks! Altendo (talk) 01:55, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Audacity can, and is the software I use to crop audio files. It's free and easy to you. Hope that helps! - Gigi (talkedits) 12:30, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! I will use cropped audio files from now on. Altendo (talk) 13:11, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Audio files

Hey Altendo, I noticed you uploaded some audio for the Art Attack page, however none have a fade out of 2 seconds at the end like our audio policies asks. I'm reaching out to ask for you to reupload them with the fade outs if you can. If you cannot, I could do it for you. If you need any help also, feel free to ask. Thanks! - Gigi (talkedits) 02:20, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

I know what fade-outs are, but I don't exactly know how to do fade-outs in Audacity, so I just left the end parts the same volume. Can you show me how to fade them out? Thanks! Altendo 02:27, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
All you have to do is click and drag over the last two seconds of the audio to select it, and then go to "Effect" and select "Fade Out". StrawberryChan (talk) 04:30, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
I will use fade-outs when uploading audio files next. Thanks for showing me how to add fade-outs! Altendo 15:04, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Kirby's Pinball Land composer

Hey, on the list of composers page you have created, you listed Tadashi Ikegami as a composer for Kirby's Pinball Land. As far as I'm concerned, this game has no staff roll or anything like that in game. My question is, where did you find the information about his involvement, and do you know other people who have worked in it? Superbound (talk) 09:16, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

The Tadashi Ikegami page itself shows that he composed (all of the) music for Kirby's Pinball Land. If that's false, why is it on that page? Altendo 14:57, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Alright, I see it. One thing I'd like to clarify is "[...] do you know other people who have worked in it" - I was referring to the entirety of staff of Kirby's Pinball Land, not just composers, but as it seems that page was your only source, you're probably didn't know anyway. As of "If that's false, why is it on that page?", sometimes people, intentionally or not, put false information onto pages, so verifying and sourcing dubious info is important. Also, using other wiki pages as confirmation risks citogenesis, so keep that in mind in the future. Superbound (talk) 17:47, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Got it. If something seems suspiciously wrong, I will look at the history and other sources before verifying.Altendo 18:45, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Regarding translations for Twitter posts

Greetings, Altendo. I'm sending you this message because you made an edit to the List of Kirby JP Twitter commemorative illustrations - 2021 adding the newest illustration in, but you used Google Translate or something similar to translate the post. This is strictly against the rules for these tables, and you should have instead sought out someone who knows the language to translate it. Machine translation is still largely inadequate for accurately translating large bodies of text, and should only be used to get a general idea of what something is saying, not posting on a wiki page. --Samwell (talk) 17:30, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

Box art

Hi, sorry to bother you! We discussed this a bit on the Discord: we're considering the box art to be a leak until it's officially announced, so we would rather not have info about it on the wiki yet per our content policy. We should have been more transparent about this on the wiki itself, I apologize. StarPunch (talk) 02:02, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Fruit Fragments

Hey, I noticed that you directed fruit fragments to gem apples, but they’re more like Energy Spheres, so do you think you could revert it, and we could do it together? It’s up to you. MarioKirbyGamer (talk) 19:50, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

I put it this way because the Fruit Fragments are basically a gem apple. Altendo 19:57, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

How about we look at Energy Sphere and Gem Apple and see which it works like more? MarioKirbyGamer (talk) 20:00, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

It works like ENergy Spheres but it is a Gem Apple. Altendo 20:02, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

Piped links

Regarding this edit, I'd like to ask that you don't put a bunch of piped links back-to-back (like "Kirby and his friends"). Piped links are meant to be used sparingly; see WiKirby:Formatting specifics. Thanks! StarPunch (talk) 16:58, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

A concern, and a warning

Hey, Altendo. Ever since you and I talked about why you still don't have Autopatrol, I've been keeping a close eye on your activity here, honestly looking for an opportunity to see if you warrant the badge. Unfortunately, your most recent set of edits seem to demonstrate that you really don't know what you're doing here on WiKirby. Your most recent attempt to make a page was so wrought with errors that I had to delete it, and put it back on your draft page. I also had to delete the files you uploaded, because there were multiple formatting issues, the most important being that they were completely unsourced, which is unacceptable here on WiKirby. Having been here for as long as you have, and having been given as many pointers as you have, I thought you would have known better.

I need to be straight with you now. You are on thin ice. You need to shape up, actually start listening to what other editors (particularly staff) have to say to you, and ask questions about what is and isn't okay to do on a wiki article. You are on the Discord, so this is as simple as posting in the wiki channel, but you've consistently ignored doing that; just going on your merry own way, ignoring the community and its standards. If you continue much longer like this, you're going to be blocked.

I have two specific requests for you, and I want you to take them seriously if you want to keep being part of this community:

  1. - Rewrite your userpage. What you have on there right now is, frankly, offensive. We don't ban people for being on Fandom, but we also don't allow people to advertise their Fandom wikis here. At the very least, remove the link you've posted.
  2. - Rework your Kirby Clash theme draft so that it follows quality standards, and don't try to publish it again until you're sure it's ready. Ask questions on the discord about how to format, what to include, and what not to include, and actually take the feedback into consideration.

That is all. I don't want this to end with a block, but the ball is in your court now. Are you ready to play? --Samwell (talk) 12:13, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

  • Why are you threatening me with a block already? It makes me think that I did something seriously wrong! If you found my userpage offensive, why didn't you tell me the minute I posted the link? And don't threaten me that I am on thin ice! This could have just been a reminder and not a warning! I remember that in the past, you gave people patroller status in less than a week just for doing what I did! I am just trying to be helpful!

At the very least, you could have just told me that I would not get autopatrol rather than just jumping to a block. I feel like the community is turning against me, and that the admins are threatening rather than supportive. Altendo 16:56, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

Block

Altendo.

Due to your disrespectful behavior on the Discord server, you are blocked for three months on WiKirby. I have left you the option to post here on this talk page if you wish, but if you don't want the block to become permanent, I really suggest you think hard about why I've taken this action, and why nobody else on the site will be taking your side on this issue. I'm not gonna sit here and lecture you about your personality issues, but I am going to suggest that you really evaluate how you behaved here, because if you carry that same attitude into real life, you are going to have bigger problems than being blocked from a video game wiki. Don't go down the same route as RMV, please. --Samwell (talk) 17:53, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

Can you at lest reduce it to just one month? The blocking policy says this: "Repeat blocks will always be longer than the first block, until a maximum length of one month per block is reached. Permanent blocks are still possible for one-strike offenses." Altendo 17:57, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
I'm going relatively easy on you, because what you did was a one-strike offense, and I had every right to make it permanent. I suggest you don't turn this into an argument, and just take some time away from here for a while. --Samwell (talk) 17:59, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
How is "Mild disrespectful behavior and unproductive arguing" one-strike? I was not severely antagonistic! I was just, at the most, unproductive arguing! I'm sorry for what I said to you and my actions on this wiki! Altendo 18:01, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
Enough! One more peep out of you and you are gone for good. --Samwell (talk) 18:01, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

I'm sorry

Hello. This will likely be my final message on this wiki, as I will be blocked with this post. I just came here to say what I did wrong.

Firstly, I did feel antagonistic writing those messages. Admins are meant to help users edit the wiki right, not to threaten users into doing their bid. Blocks are meant for user control, not as a punishment nor to win an argument. Admins have the right to block if a user violates the block policy. My block was justified, and my inevitable permanent ban is as well.

Secondly, I know that it is better to not upload data than upload bad data. I should learn to follow the policies, even without admin guidance. I should always learn to source files when I upload them. If an admin tells me what I do wrong, I should listen to them, rather than argue back. Admins are meant to help take care of the wiki, not take advantage of other users.

Finally, there were a lot of good edits that I have made but a lot a bad ones as well. Admins have the rights to single out the bad ones, regardless of the good progress I have made to this wiki. Having good footmarks means less if I have bad footmarks, but while bad footmarks should not be covered up, as they should be left to see the mistakes you made and what you can do going forward, they should also not continue to be placed down. Admins can show you bad footprints you may have missed, they have the rights to warn you of consequences if you continue, and they are very friendly. They could have chosen to block me as soon as he discovered what I have done, but was patient enough to wait until I actually blew up to do it. I should never have blown up on him. I should have just apologized on the spot rather than confront him, and I am right now, but the damage I have done to Samwell has already been done, and no amount of apology can undo his decision, nor could it undo the damage I dealt to him and the wiki.

I learned a valuable lesson. Rather than do bad things and then later apologize, I should have just not done these things in the first place. This will probably be my final message on the wiki, so goodbye (probably forever).
