This article is about the cannonball-firing nozzle, and should not be confused with Cracker.

The Crackler is an item, first appearing in Kirby's Return to Dream Land which repeatedly fires small cannonballs at an arc when carried.

Appearance[edit]

The Crackler is red with gold accents and a blue star on its base. The star changes color as the Crackler becomes more unstable, eventually flashing red to indicate that it will break soon. As can be seen in its appearance inside Ice Containers, the Crackler's star takes on an unlit black color, which turns into the more familiar blue once the Ice Container is broken.

Use[edit]

The Crackler can be picked up, carried, and thrown like many other items. Similarly, the character holding the Crackler can only make one jump and cannot use any attack but Slide. When thrown, the Crackler itself can deal minor damage to enemies. The main selling point of carrying the Crackler is that, while held, it will repeatedly and rapidly fire cannonballs in an arc in front of it, heavily damaging any enemies caught in its fire and destroying blocks, including Metal Blocks in its wake. To a certain extent, the character can adjust the arc of the cannonballs fired by crouching, in that case causing the shots to be fired directly at the user's feet.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

A blue "souvenir" Crackler from Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

The Crackler first appears in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, where it can be found at various points in stages. When the item appears, it cannot be reset unless the stage is restarted or Kirby is KOed. The Crackler can be carried into other rooms, but it cannot be carried out of the stage itself. Effective use of the Crackler is required to obtain certain collectibles, including several Energy Spheres.

The Crackler also appears in the Item Challenge Stage.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, another variant of the Crackler appears as a Souvenir, obtainable by earning rewards in the Stamp Rally and accessible from Souvenir Shop Waddle Dee. This version is blue, and can be used at any time during a stage by holding down the X button once it is assigned. However, this blue version of the Crackler does not last as long as the standard red ones.

The Crackler appears as an item in all three of the Kirby Fighters games, with the same general look as it had in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Here, it only fires up to 40 shots, though each of these do an appreciable 16 points of damage to opponents. Tossing the Crackler before it runs out of ammunition deals no damage, but when it burns out, it will explode on impact when thrown, dealing an additional 24 damage to any opponent hit.

In Story Mode: The Destined Rivals, there is a story item called the Crackler Sticker. Selecting this item causes any Cracklers the player uses to deal double damage to opponents. There is also a special stage condition referred to as "Crackler Stage" which makes it so only Cracklers can appear during the battle. Clearing a Crackler Stage confers an additional 100 points to the player.
