Story Mode, also known as Main Game and Main Mode, is the main mode of a given Kirby game, usually having the game's main storyline. It is always available from the beginning, and does not need to be unlocked. If a game has Extra Modes, much of the content from Story Mode is revisited there, usually with twists.

Game appearances

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

Kirby's Dream Course

Kirby's Avalanche

Kirby's Dream Land 2

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra

Kirby Super Star and its remake are unique in which they feature multiple main games.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Kirby's Dream Land 3's story mode can be selected by pressing the start button in the File Select screen. The main gist of the story is that Kirby, Gooey, and the Animal Friends must gather Heart-Stars by helping others in order to save Planet Popstar.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror's Story Mode is labeled as START GAME in the main menu. The games Story Mode consist of Kirby and his colored clones exploring the Mirror World and collecting eight mirror shards being held by various bosses to restore the Dimension Mirror and save Meta Knight. After Dark Meta Knight is defeated, Kirby and his clones take on Dark Mind, the mastermind behind the attack of the Mirror World. With aid from Shadow Kirby and Meta Knight's sword the Mirror World is saved and the Kirbys return to their own world, still in fours.

Kirby: Canvas Curse

Kirby: Squeak Squad

Kirby's Epic Yarn / Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn

Kirby's Epic Yarn has a main mode consisting of obligatory stages set in the level hubs of Patch Land and Dream Land, as well as optional stages unlocked after gathering enough beads in boss stages, while activities with Kirby's neighbors are unlocked as sub-games after certain stages are cleared. The story follows Kirby and Prince Fluff as they restore Patch Land with the help of the Magic Yarn and bring Dream Land back to normal. There is no strictly defined post-game mode.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn includes the same and more, adding a distinct hard mode in the form of Devilish Mode, which is optional and can be played instead of Normal Mode altogether.

Kirby Mass Attack

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

Kirby Fighters Deluxe

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Kirby: Planet Robobot's Story Mode, like Kirby: Triple Deluxe, is unlocked from the beginning and can be selected in the main menu. In it, Kirby is tasked with reversing the takeover of the Haltmann Works Company shortly following their invasion of Planet Popstar. Within, Kirby travels through various levels as he collects Code Cubes to progress through various stages. Completion of Story Mode unlocks Meta Knightmare Returns and The Arena.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

While Kirby and the Forgotten Land does not feature a traditional Story Mode, as it features nearly seamless integration of game modes, with the only menu between the title screen and gameplay being the file select, every piece of content accessed by Kirby hopping onto the central Warp Star of Waddle Dee Town (as well as Point of Arrival) can be considered an equivalent to Story Mode.

Various levels of Story Mode progression unlock new attractions in the main hub, with saved Waddle Dees being the metric of completion.

Games without any form of Story Mode

The following are games that lack any Story Mode, either because they do not contain modes at all, or contain various modes but none is considered a "main" or "story" one.
