Past Adventures (originally known as Other Games) is a menu feature present in several Kirby titles, existing for players to learn more about previous titles in the series. The menu first appeared in Kirby: Planet Robobot and has re-appeared in some form or another in almost every subsequent game since, with the exceptions of Kirby Star Allies and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn.

History[edit]

The menu first debuted in Kirby: Planet Robobot under the name Other Games and accessed from the Options menu. The basic functions of the menu were established as far back as this title. The previous three Kirby games for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems (Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe and Kirby Fighters Deluxe) could be chosen by the player. Once selected, the game would take players to the Nintendo eShop, where they can learn more about the game and potentially make a purchase. Highlighting each of the other game icons would also play back that respective title's main theme or title theme for the game in question. In this game exclusively, each game's title theme could also be listened to freely in the Jukebox.

The fundamentals remained unchanged with this menu's subsequent re-appearance in almost every game up until Kirby Fighters 2's release. More previously-released games would be added over time and the ability to purchase prior titles on the same system via Nintendo eShop was kept intact. Starting with Super Kirby Clash, every previously-released game beginning from Triple Deluxe would be given an entry on the Other Games menu, though selecting the 3DS and/or Wii U entries would only reveal a brief descriptor for the game in question.

Beginning with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the menu was now named Past Adventures, and the ability to go directly to the Nintendo eShop to make game purchases was removed. In that game, the menu is accessed via Kirby's House by selecting the book on the table. In Kirby's Dream Buffet, the Past Adventures menu is accessed on the Home Table in the same place where one would access the staff credits. In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the Past Adventures menu is accessed on the Main Mode menu.

Trivia[edit]

  • A precursor to the menu first appeared in Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe and Kirby Fighters Deluxe with a button labelled "eShop" (American English)/"Triple Deluxe" (British English) in those games' Options menus. Selecting it would, after a yes or no prompt, redirect players to the Kirby: Triple Deluxe eShop page. The music that accompanies the prompt is "Hypernova Inhale" instead of "Sun, Sky, Dreamstalk" in later games' Past Adventures menus.
