"VS. Chef Kawasaki"[3], or "Insane"[derived from Japanese][4], is a music track that first appeared in Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy), though most know the version of it first heard in Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom). It's a somewhat frantic theme, and due to its inclusion in the latter of the two games, it has become loosely associated with Chef Kawasaki.

Game appearances

Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy) / Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom)

In Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy) and its remake Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom), "Insane" or "VS. Chef Kawasaki" can heard in a couple shared instances throughout both games. In the Round Clear mode, it plays during every level in the Insane difficulty. It also plays during the Challenge mode, when the player has accumulated between 800 to 1000 stars. Exclusively in the Super Famicom version, however, it also plays during the battle with Chef Kawasaki during the Story Mode.

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition

In Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, "VS. Chef Kawasaki" plays when viewing the Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom) section. However, because the Super Famicom game never got officially localized and released outside of Japan, this song and the section it plays in are only present in the Japanese version of Kirby's Dream Collection.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

In Kirby: Planet Robobot, "VS. Chef Kawasaki" can be heard in Resolution Road - Stage 6 EX, specifically during the two parts of the stage that take place in the casino. It can also be heard as Track 115 in the Jukebox.

Kirby's Dream Buffet

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, a fast-paced remix medley of both "VS. Chef Kawasaki" and "VS. Gryll" can be heard occasionally during Battle Royale matches.

Other appearances

On the Kirby's Star Stacker Original CD Masters album, composer Masahito Nakano rearranged "Insane" with new instrumentation. It can be found as track 17 and is titled めちゃすご. Translated, it means "Very Cool", which is the name of the Insane difficulty in the Japanese version of Kirby's Star Stacker.

On the Kirby Memorial Arrangements album, " VS. Chef Kawasaki" was remixed in a medley alongside the Simple Stage theme from Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble. It is titled "Star Tumble" and can be found as track 4. This version was arranged by Jun Ishikawa.

The song was rearranged again in The Sound of Kirby Café 2, packaged in a medley alongside "King Dedede's Theme", specifically the version from Kirby's Star Stacker for the Super Famicom. It's listed as 王様きらきらフルコース (The King's Sparkling Full Course) and can be found as track 6. This version was also arranged by Jun Ishikawa.
