Kine's Theme is the musical piece associated with Kine which plays whenever Kirby is riding on him through normal stages in Kirby's Dream Land 2. It was composed by Tadashi Ikegami[1].

Composition

Kine's Theme is a somewhat slower-paced and laid-back tune, characterized by the contrast between its steady percussion and its main melody. Its two main verses run in 4/4 time signature, and are equal to each-other in length. Notably, the introductory verse which does not loop in the song is fairly long in and of itself, being half the length of one of the main verses.

Game appearances

Kirby's Dream Land 2

Kine's Theme first appeared in Kirby's Dream Land 2, along with the character it is named for. The song plays whenever Kirby is paired with Kine while in a standard stage, and overrides the stage's main theme. The song does not play in boss stages, Bonus Chances, or Level Hubs.

A remix of Kine's Theme plays in Silver Submarine. It features a faster tempo compared to the original, and various parts of the melody are slightly changed.

In [[Kirby's Return to Dream Land|Template:KRtDL KAW]], Kine's Theme plays as the theme for a few stages in Onion Ocean. It has been re-orchestrated, its tempo sped up a little, and a few extra verses have been added. This can be seen as a somewhat odd musical cameo, as Kine himself does not appear in this game outside of a Stone transformation.

On the soundtrack, this version of the song is titled ハッピーマンボー (Happy Mambo). This is a pun on the music genre, the mambo, as well as the name for Kine's species, the ocean sunfish (マンボウ manbou in Japanese). The song is arranged by Hirokazu Ando[2].

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, "Happy Mambo" makes a reappearance in Wild World - Stage 7 EX.

A calm remix of Kine's Theme can be heard in Swept Out to Sea. Notably, it has a small new intro, bubbly-like sounds spread during the whole piece, and the main melody is played by a piano.

Other appearances

Kine's Theme can be heard as the second piece of the track Kirby's Dream Land 2 Animal Friends Medley from the Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert. As a medley, it's paired with Rick's Theme and Coo's Theme. Notably, the song is played in a lower key than usual, and primarily focuses on oboes. This version is arranged by Shogo Sakai.
