"How Many Did We Hit?" is the secondary results screen theme from Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.[1]

Composition[edit]

Results screen of Ninja Dojo.

"How Many Did We Hit?" is a simple, triumphant theme in C major. Its main instrumentation consists of a frequent brass-synth section playing a spread-out chord progression of "I–ii–iii–ii" (similar to that of "Standings") in a dotted quarter beat while also mustering its tonality. Key changing to G-flat major, the theme enters its pinnacle as the brass creates a rising progression with accidentals present, concluding with a subdominant chord before resoluting back to C major, looping the theme.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake, the theme plays in the Guide prior to starting a Challenge Stage, as well as in the results screen of Ninja Dojo. It is also found as track 46 in the Sound Test.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the theme receives a new arrangement featuring Japanese-styled composition, which replaces the original version at the Ninja Dojo, and can be found as track 85 in the Jukebox. The original theme can still be heard in Ninja Dojo after clearing all the missions associated with the sub-game. This version appears as track 153 in the Jukebox, where it is titled "How Many Did We Hit? (Secret Song)"

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, the theme reprises its role as a Guide theme, specifically in the New Challenge Stages game mode, although it does not play for every challenge of said mode.
