"Tumbling Ice" is a stage theme from Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe that plays in the latter half of White Wafers - Stage 3. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.[1]
Composition
"Tumbling Ice" is a fast-paced and serious theme in E minor and 4/4. It starts with an F minor synth intro that presents one of the track's motifs. This motif is intonationally similar to the melody of Mosugaba's song. Ending with dissonant repetitions of an F, the piece modulalates to its main key of E minor, and an octave ostinato bassline begins. The new melody, played by a muted trumpet, somewhat resembles that of analogous E minor sections of "On the Path of Frosty Roadblocks". The phrase ends in parallel fourths. The intro motif is developed by the brass before suddenly modulating to F-sharp minor for a synth to repeat the intro. Rather than ending in a fanfare, it gradually moves down and ends up in A minor, at which point the variation of the intro motif heard prior repeats. The descent continues, and the original intro repeats. Instead of looping, it continues where it left off: slowly descending modulating passages, from F-sharp minor until eventually reaching E minor again. The track loops from the main section's melody.
