 This box: view  talk  edit
Hi there! My name is Magolor. I'm from another dimension, but I just love Planet Popstar. I can't get enough of it! Things got a bit hectic when I first arrived, but that's all in the past, thanks to Kirby.
— Magolor's opening dialogue from New Challenge Stages in Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition

Magolor (/mæ gə lɔr/[1]) is an alien magician who first appeared in Kirby's Return to Dream Land as the main antagonist. He is from another dimension, claims to live on the planet Halcandra, and commands a dimension-crossing starship called the Lor Starcutter. He has since made several appearances in subsequent games in the Kirby series. Magolor is defined by his diminutive stature, his ability to fly and cast magical spells, and his effective (but sometimes deceptive) salesmanship. Notable roles beyond his debut appearance include being the host of both New Challenge Stages in Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition and the courses in Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, running the Shoppe in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, appearing as a Dream Friend in Kirby Star Allies, and as a playable character in Kirby Fighters 2.

In his debut in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Magolor crashes the Lor Starcutter into Dream Land and scatters its parts and Energy Spheres all over Planet Popstar. Kirby and his friends aid Magolor by collecting these pieces to repair the ship, and he thanks them by taking the group to his homeworld, Halcandra. Once there, they are attacked by the guardian angel Landia, and Magolor requests that Kirby and his team defeat the dragon. When Landia is beaten, however, Magolor steals the dragon's guarded item - the Master Crown - revealing that he was after this powerful object the whole time - and uses it to transform into a menacing final boss, aiming to rule over the entire universe. With help from Landia, Kirby and friends defeat him, shattering the crown and sending him to the lowest depths of Another Dimension.

While there, Magolor becomes powerless. To recover his powers, he finds five Fruit Fragments that gradually restore them. After collecting the final Fruit Fragment, they all merge to form the Gem Apple seed. However, the crown returns, corruputing the seed in the process and transforming nito the Crowned Doomer. Magolor destroys it, but the crown merges with the seed itself to form a monsterous tree. Magolor weakens the crown, then pulls a sword out of the rubble and transforms it into his own Ultra Sword, destroying the crown for good.

Magolor retrieves the seed, which has sprouted into a seedling, and a portal to the Dream Kingdom opens up. Magolor enters the portal and is transported to the parallel universe with the seedling. He plants the seedling in the town square, and it grows into a sapling. Magolor then sets up his Shoppe, and becomes its Shopkeeper. Eventually, after helping out Kirby as shopkeeper twice, he returns to the main universe and makes amends with Kirby, including by building him a theme park.

Physical appearance

Magolor is a small, ellipsoid being who possesses disembodied hands, but no feet. He wears a blue hood with yellow and white accents. The rim of the hood, as well as the pattern on his body, resembles the design of a gear, which matches the motif of the Energy Spheres for the Lor Starcutter. His face consists merely of two yellow eyes on a dark yellow surface, the rest presumably being covered up by his scarf-like belt. The belt itself seems to wrap around his entire body, covering some of his face, and has a small yellow-fringed cape that extends around most of the circumference.

Magolor also has a notable number of alternate outfits. As Shopkeeper Magolor, Magolor's cloak bears a simpler woven look, eschewing the gear fringes and yellow accents, and takes on a primarily green and white hue. As Manager Magolor, he wears his usual colors, but with a large top hat and bow tie, and his cape is modified to look more like a tailed coat. Lastly, in Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler, he wears a monochrome version of his usual outfit, with a knotted belt and a tattered cape, as well as a tear in his cloak revealing one of his ears.

Magolor is able to float freely in the air. There does not appear to be a limit to how high Magolor can float off the ground, but he still prefers to hover only a few inches above it at most times. This ability is directly tied to his magical power; when he loses his powers in Magolor Epilogue, he is only able to jump and glide a paltry distance. Atop his head, he has two pointy ears which resemble those of a cat to a degree — his Magolor Epilogue appearance indicates that these ears are part of his body and not just his cloak. On the official Japanese Kirby Twitter account, one illustration featuring feline characters implies Magolor is also catlike with his pointed ears.

Personality

Despite what happened in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby maintains a friendly relationship with Magolor.
Magolor from Kirby's Return to Dream Land is here! Is he your ally, or is he...all lies?
— Magolor's Dream Friend introduction in Kirby Star Allies

When Magolor first arrives on Popstar, he appears to be friendly and cordial, and easily convinces Kirby and friends to help him in his plight to recover his ship's Energy Spheres. As revealed later in the story, this act was a charade; he is cleverly able to feign grief and joy in order to get people to do what he wants. Combined with his tendency to outright lie, this allowed him to take advantage of Kirby's hospitality, leading him to the Master Crown.

Initially, it appears that Magolor's only goal is to rule the entire universe with the power of the Master Crown, but dialogue prior to his reveal makes it ambiguous as to whether he genuinely appreciated Kirby or only saw him as a pawn for his goals (in particular, he sincerely thanks Kirby for helping him repair the Lor while explaining his plan). Extra dialogue added in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe has Magolor share with Kirby his dream of building an amusement park, which seems to be a genuine desire, as he has built multiple such parks after his redemption.

Regardless of intent, Magolor's desires become twisted over time, thanks to the parasitic power of the Master Crown. The pause screen description for Magolor Soul in Extra Mode indicates that he eventually loses control of his actions and becomes a "a sad shell, nothing more than a manifestation of the crown itself". Additional context provided in the True Arena of Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe indicates that the Master Crown has been devouring Magolor's soul, and that he is aware of this process, begging Kirby to help him.

After being freed from the crown's grasp by Kirby and his friends, and then battling his way through other dimensions and destroying the Master Crown, Magolor has atoned for his misdeeds. To make up for the trouble he caused, he builds an amusement park filled with new challenge courses in New Challenge Stages. In the same sub-game, he seems to have a friendly rivalry with Kirby, as seen during the races with him; the two of them part ways on amicable terms in the credits sequence.

Magolor is often melodramatic, and even when he is trying to act evil and intimidating (as seen after his Master Crown-induced transformation), he usually can't get the emotion right. He also appears to have an ego about him and is obsessed with challenges, particularly races. He often gloats when he is in the lead, which usually leads to him slowing down and getting passed up, to which he will then get angry and speed up. If he wins a race, he gloats endlessly, but if he loses, he sulks. Finally, he is shown to enjoy pranks and practical jokes; for example, he covers the screen with a curtain during segments of "C-R-O-W-N-E-D: Reprise" in Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, laughing if King Dedede falls into a pit, and he pretends to betray Team Kirby in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash upon purchasing all of his equipment (though he clarifies that he's only joking). As a result, he can be seen as a reformed villain with a hints of trickery still buried within him.

Magolor appears to be a skilled technician and wizard, as he claims that upon initially excavating the Lor from Halcandra, it was in bad shape and he had to repair it. He is able to cast powerful spells during his playable appearance in Kirby Star Allies, suggesting that his magical abilities are natural to him and not a result of the Master Crown's influence. His building and summoning skills are apparent in New Challenge Stages, as he was the one who built all the courses that Kirby played through, and he summons a myriad of foes during the races. His industriousness is also on display when he sets up a Gem Apple cart in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash.

Outside of the video game series proper, Magolor is often used as a representative for news on Kirby series titles, mainly for the Kirby Clash series. Occasionally he interacts with other characters, such as The Three Mage-Sisters, with whom he appears to have a rocky relationship. Magolor is also often depicted in supplementary material associating with Marx, who shares a similar role and personality with him. As the final bosses of their respective games, they share similar attacks, even identical black hole and laser beam attacks. They also appear together in a Stone transformation in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and one title screen animation of Kirby Star Allies, acknowledging the similarities between the two.

In the Japanese versions of the games, Magolor is implied to speak with a foreign accent, as many words in his dialogue are spelled with katakana where one would normally use hiragana.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

Role

Magolor sulks upon seeing his ship wrecked and its parts scattered as Kirby and his friends observe.

Magolor sets the primary objective of Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, when he crashes into the countryside of Popstar in the Lor Starcutter, shedding most of the ship's pieces in the process. Upon discovering Magolor in the wreck, Kirby and his friends King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee agree to help the stranded alien by scouring the planet collecting the pieces. One-by-one, the four adventurers restore the pieces to the ship until it is back in working order.

To thank Kirby for this task, Magolor takes him and his friends to his "homeworld", the broken planet Halcandra. After crossing dimensions, the ship prepares to land in a desolate plain on the planet's surface when it is shot down by fireballs. After regaining composure, Magolor identifies the source of the aggression as a giant four-headed dragon named Landia. Magolor begins to despair at this threat, but Kirby and his team reassure him and agree to defeat the dragon.

When Landia falls, a mysterious glowing crown falls from one of his heads. As Kirby and his friends celebrate their victory, Magolor appears without warning and congratulates them with a mysterious stillness. He then takes the crown and places it on his head, revealing that he had fabricated the entire scenario in order to obtain this "source of limitless power". Magolor transforms into a frightening ethereal being and promises to conquer the universe, starting with Popstar. He leaves Kirby and his team through a transdimensional portal, intent on stranding them on Halcandra, but Landia assists Kirby and his team by pursuing Magolor through the rift.

Eventually, Kirby and his team catch up to Magolor and do battle with both him and his ship. After an Ultra Sword struggle and a tough fight, Magolor is eventually defeated, having been mutated into a horrid magical specter in the process. The Master Crown shatters and Magolor vanishes after being restored to his normal form. He is not seen again for the remainder of the game, but he apparently survives and later makes amends with Kirby.

Extra details
Anyway... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The time has come for your planet... No! The time has come for the ENTIRE UNIVERSE to bow down to me. And for being such a big help in all of this, your planet gets to go first! Prepare to bow, Popstar! Welcome your new overlord!
— Magolor in Kirby's Return to Dream Land

There is an easter egg foreshadowing his betrayal. The alliterative first letter of every level's name (shown in bold), from Cookie Country to Dangerous Dinner, spelled out in order, is CROWNED. Magolor's 2nd phase theme is named that as well. In addition, when Kirby has collected all 120 Energy Spheres and talks to Magolor in the Lor Starcutter in Extra Mode, he may have one of the following conversations (he doesn't reveal as much in Main Mode):

  • Magolor will explain the origin of the Lor (claiming he excavated it) and the power of the Master Crown, and urge Kirby to defeat Landia so he can get the crown to rule the universe.[2]
  • Magolor will mention he knew about Kirby long before they met. He will also claim he knows somebody who knows Kirby very well. Ironically, he will say "Nothing good comes of fighting" in the end.[3]
  • In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, he will reveal that Halcandra is not actually his home; he lied because he wanted Kirby to visit it, presumably so he could use him to retrieve the Master Crown. He also reveals that his greatest dream is to open an amusement park, but decides to start small with a shop instead. In the end, he hopes that no matter where he and Kirby meet, they will remain best friends.

Once they catch up to where Magolor has gone, he summons the Lor Starcutter to do battle with them, ironically using each of the parts that were recovered to do various attacks. After the Lor is shot down, Magolor makes his getaway, and the team pursues Magolor himself, who proceeds to knock each one of them out of the air. On the ground, Kirby and his friends then must fight Magolor hand-to-hand in his souped-up form. During this fight, Magolor demonstrates the Master Crown's power with a variety of unending magical attacks, including throwing spheres of dark energy and opening rifts to try and suck Kirby into a realm of pain, even resorting to creating a star-shaped Magic Barrier when his health is nearly depleted. Kirby has to break through the shield by using his various Super Abilities and then finish Magolor off with the Ultra Sword.

Unfortunately, even this is not enough, as the Master Crown pulses, reincarnates, and takes control of Magolor into an even larger, ghastly form. He opens the second phase by immediately dispelling Kirby's Ultra Sword ability (assuming he still has it when that part of the battle begins), and then displays even more ludicrously powerful attacks, including his own versions of the Super Abilities that Kirby had been using throughout the game. Once he is defeated again, he finally dispels slowly and reverts to Magolor's original form. The Master Crown levitates off his head and shatters, leaving Magolor to warp to a realm between dimensions, ending his role in the game's storyline.

It is shown later on that this did not actually end up killing him, and he seems to have lightened up without the Master Crown's influence or allure, as he is seen in later main-series games.

Magolor

The following lists all of Magolor's attacks in the Main Mode of Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Attacks in italics are used in the second part only.

Attacks - Main Mode
Attack Description
魔力球まりょくきゅう
Magic Spheres
Magolor summons orbs of dark energy that spin in place or hold for a moment, then fire at Kirby. They can be deflected or inhaled. In the second phase, they can be conjured from the background.
キルニードル
Deadly Needles
Magolor summons spikes from the ground which systematically cover the stage. The attack lasts longer in phase 2.
レボリューションボウル
Revolution Orbs
From the background, Magolor fires five rounds of spinning fire that burst on the stage.
Doomer Rift[conjectural title]
Magolor opens a rift, and Para-Doomers fly out in a spiral path, harming whatever they touch.
ブラックホール
Black Hole
Magolor enters the background and opens a giant rift in an attempt to suck Kirby in. If Kirby is caught, he gets taken to a dimension of pure pain and is zapped repeatedly. This is similar to the black hole that Marx can summon.
マホロア砲
Magolor Cannon
Magolor fires a gigantic laser beam that covers a large portion of the floor. It creates stars on the edge of the screen.
Attack names taken from Japanese strategy guides unless otherwise stated.

In the last part of this phase, the player will be provided with the Monster Flame, Flare Beam, and Ultra Sword abilities in that order.

Magolor EX
Magolor stole the Master Crown and the Lor from their sacred resting places on Halcandra. He's a liar and a wizard... Defeat him!
— VS Magolor EX Special Page, Kirby's Return to Dream Land
It was in a dusty tome that Magolor first learned about that legendary item. It all sounded like a fairy tale, until he found the Lor and began scheming. It's time to save the universe, Lor...and Magolor!
— VS Magolor EX Special Page from Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

In Extra Mode, Magolor attacks more fervently, and most of his moves have new colors and visual effects, but his move-set is largely the same:

Attacks - Extra Mode
Attack Description
魔力球まりょくきゅう
Magic Spheres
Magolor summons orbs of dark energy that spin in place or hold for a moment, then fire at Kirby. They can be deflected or inhaled. In the second phase, they can be conjured from the background. Much faster and more numerous than in the Main Mode.
キルニードル
Deadly Needles
Magolor summons spikes from the ground which systematically cover the stage. The attack lasts longer in phase 2. The spikes are summoned much sooner than in the Main Mode.
レボリューションフレイム
Revolution Flame
From the background, Magolor fires five rounds of spinning fire that burst on the stage. Faster than in the Main Mode.
Doomer Rift[conjectural title]
Magolor opens a rift, and silver Para-Doomers fly out in a spiral path, harming whatever they touch. Faster than in the Main Mode.
ブラックホール
Black Hole
Magolor enters the background and opens a giant unguardable rift in an attempt to suck Kirby in. If Kirby is caught, he gets taken to a dimension of pure pain and is zapped repeatedly. Has more suction than in the Main Mode. It is similar to the black hole Marx can summon.
マホロア砲
Magolor Cannon
Magolor fires a gigantic laser beam that covers a large portion of the floor. It creates stars on the edge of the screen. It fires much sooner than in the Main Mode.
Attack names taken from Japanese strategy guides unless otherwise stated.

Additionally, during the third phase, Magolor can create gusts of wind, fire orbs from rifts, and instead of Monster Flame and Flare Beam, which can hit Magolor from anywhere in the foreground, Kirby is provided with the Snow Bowl and Grand Hammer abilities, which are tougher to use — Snow Bowl must be used at a distance from Magolor, which gives him more time to possibly teleport away, while Grand Hammer requires the player to be right next to him, which can be dangerous.

Although using the Ultra Sword can be used to finish off Magolor's first phase, it isn't the only way to finish him off. Assuming Magolor's shield is destroyed and an Ability Star is still bouncing around or there's at least two characters fighting the boss, Kirby can either use a regular Copy Ability or have a second player finish off the boss instead, in turn, skipping both the cinematic involving the Ultra Sword at the end of the phase in question and skipping Magolor getting rid of the Ultra Sword ability at the start of phase 2.[4] Additionally, if Kirby does try to finish off Magolor using the Ultra Sword, but fails the mashing section, Magolor will knock him aside and cause him to lose his ability (but this will not damage Kirby) and Magolor will immediately restore the last piece of his shield.[5]

According to the VS Magolor EX Special Page, Magolor did not originally own the Lor Starcutter, instead having stolen it from Halcandra. Magolor claims that the ship "has a mind of its own"; this can be seen in the ending cinematic, where it flies without a pilot, along with Landia, to bring Kirby and his friends back to Dream Land.

Landia EX and Magolor EX are the only bosses who visibly transform into their EX forms when encountered, rather than simply being in their upgraded form already. This may be because both characters are seen in pre-rendered cutscenes, and staying in their original forms until they are encountered allows for reuse of the original animations. In Magolor's case, he is seen in his original form during the "Let Me Explain Everything" cutscene and in the Lor EX & Magolor battle, then transforms in the unique "Final Battle EX" cutscene.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, an Extra Mode called Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler features Magolor as the main playable character. In it, after he is defeated in the main story, Magolor is cast adrift through Another Dimension and loses most of his magical power. To regain it, he must travel variety of strange dimension whilst defeating enemies and collecting Fruit Fragments. Doing the former will award the egg-shaped magician Magic Points once he completes a stage, and they can be used to strengthen his abilities. However, to gain new ones, the earlier mentioned Fruit Fragments are needed. Magolor can manage upgrades for his skills using the Magolor's Magical Skills submenu, accessible from the main level hub.

Additional roles

Magolor directing the contestants in the Sub-Game Magolor's Tome Trackers.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Magolor is the main operator of the newly-added Merry Magoland, here taking on the role of "Manager Magolor". In this role, he explains the park and also gives out information about top scores in the Sub-Games, similar to Wise Waddle Dee in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

In addition, Magolor can be seen in some of the subgames, as follows:

  • In Magolor's Tome Trackers he can be seen dressed like a professor with a white mustache and directs the contestants to collect the Magic Tomes he is thinking of.
  • In Ninja Dojo, Magolor may appear alongside some of the targets, dressed as a ninja. It is not possible to hit him with a star, however.
  • In Kirby on the Draw, Magolor may appear as one of the targets. His is worth 120 points, the most of any target.
  • In Samurai Kirby, Magolor appears as the fourth opponent in single-player mode. He whacks Kirby with a miniature Lor Starcutter if he wins, and Kirby hits him with the Ultra Sword if he loses (referencing his boss fight).

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition

Magolor is the host of the New Challenge Stages section of Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition and is apparently friends with Kirby there, pointing out that "things got a bit hectic" the last time he appeared. At the end of each world of this Sub-Game, Kirby races against Magolor using the ability of his choice, while Magolor summons obstacles for Kirby to try to avoid. Amusingly, even though Magolor set up these races, he still feels sullen if Kirby beats him.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

Magolor's portrait.

Magolor does not have a role in this game, but his likeness is seen in several different locations.

  • In Stage 3 of Wild World, a portrait of Magolor can be seen in the background during the fight with the Ace Phanta.
  • One of Kirby's Stone transformations depicts Magolor along with Marx.
  • The third-to-last Keychain depicts an 8-bit rendering of Magolor, which is the same rendering as the statue from Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition.
  • Magolor appears in the audience during Kirby Master video.

Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe

Magolor makes a brief appearance holding a blindfold banner in the C-R-O-W-N-E-D (reprise) stage.

Magolor appears in the C-R-O-W-N-E-D (reprise) stage, covering certain drums using a blindfold banner near the end of the stage. His likeness also appears shortly after that point in the same stage as a hidden keychain.

A Miiverse post explains that, in addition to building the New Challenge Stages, Magolor also built the Drum Dash courses.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

As in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Magolor does not appear directly in the game. His likeness can however be found in a Stone transformation, as well as a number of stickers.

Main article: Magolor's Shoppe

Magolor, referred to as Shopkeeper Magolor, makes an appearance in this expanded Sub-Game, here wearing a green robe and doing business through Magolor's Shoppe. He sells Kirby various bits of equipment, including new weapons and armor for each role, as well as potions and other items.

Shinya Kumazaki explained a bit about Magolor's role in the game in the July 2017 issue of Nintendo DREAM. He was chosen as the shopkeeper to add a sense of familiarity to the process of transacting real money, a new element for this game, as well as being fitting for his character. Since it was felt that his original design wouldn't match the style of the Dream Kingdom, he was given new clothes: he wears green to represent the shop, as well as white to represent innocence, given that he is known for being a liar. Lastly, Kumazaki confirmed that this is the same Magolor as the main Kirby universe, rather than an alternate counterpart — but because the Dream Kingdom is an alternate universe, he has no need to make up for his previous misdeeds.[6] Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler later explicitly shows Magolor, after redeeming himself, arriving in the Dream Kingdom through a dimensional rift and setting up shop.

Magolor accepts currency in the form of Gem Apples and Fragments, though the latter are only used to purchase and upgrade weapons and armor. He also sells Gem Apples, though these require real-world currency to purchase. In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, Magolor offers discounts for Gem Apple purchases on Sunday of each week (which he refers to as "Magolor Day"). In Super Kirby Clash, he occasionally offers a few Gem Apples as a free gift instead. In both games, if Kirby purchases all of the Shoppe's equipment, Magolor will don his original blue and yellow robe.

Magolor's Dream Friend trailer
This charming rogue magician arrives from Kirby's Return to Dream Land with a wink and something up his sleeve. But he's your Dream Friend, and he's more than willing to help you conquer the galaxy.
— Pause screen description of Magolor in Kirby Star Allies

In Kirby Star Allies, Magolor makes his playable debut as a Dream Friend in version 4.0.0 and onward. He primarily takes from his appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, but possesses several attacks inspired by his boss incarnation, his moves in New Challenge Stages of Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, and even his Shopkeeper role in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. He also gains a version of the Ultra Sword as one of his attacks.

Magolor is capable of imbuing his allies with the 'Bluster', 'Zap', and 'Sizzle' Power Effects. He also has a unique Friend Ability called Magoloran Launch, which has him create a replica of the Lor Starcutter which his allies jump into.

Magolor pulls out a miniature version of the Ultra Sword and then swipes downward with it ahead of him, covering a good distance. 30 (hit with center of blade)
20 (hit with edge or hilt)
Magolor can no longer move while using this move, and he is also no longer invincible while using it.
Magic Barrier

Dimensional Vanish
In midair, use a direction + L/R
Magolor can teleport a good distance in any direction, becoming intangible as he does so. This can only be used once per flight. N/A This dodge almost instantly teleports Magolor in the direction indicated as opposed to being able to vanish and move about slowly like in Kirby Star Allies.

Kirby's Dream Buffet

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Magolor is represented in several different ways, though he does not make a direct appearance. Firstly, one of the Battle Royale stages is made to resemble him, called the Magolor Cake. Second, Kirby can unlock a costume and color to make himself resemble Magolor. Last, Magolor appears on four different Character Treats, which include his artwork from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, his 8-bit incarnation from Kirby's Dream Collection, his Shopkeeper artwork from Super Kirby Clash, and his artwork from the Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival.

Magolor MagolorTrophyWiiU.png Wii Kirby's Return to Dream Land One day, a huge hole opened in the sky and the Lor Starcutter crashed down to Dream Land. Magolor, the captain of the ship, wasn't injured in the crash, but the ship lost several important parts. Kirby and his friends help recover the pieces, and Magolor guides them to Halcandra. Everything seems to be going well... One day, a rift appeared in the sky above Dream Land, and the Lor Starcutter came crashing through it. The captain, Magolor, was safe, but his ship's pieces got blasted far and wide. Kirby and friends help him put them back together, and to thank them, Magolor takes them on a trip to Halcandra. A lovely story! If only it ended there...

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Magolor appears as a primary Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, using his official artwork from Kirby's Return to Dream Land. His Spirit is ranked ★★★ Ace, Attack-type, has 3 support slots, and no skill. Interestingly, he has higher defense than attack despite being Attack-type, with base stats of 1,730 defense and 931 attack and level 99 stats of 5,205 defense and 2,802 attack. He can be obtained in three ways; battling him in World of Light, battling him in the Spirit Board, or by purchasing him from the Shop.

During the Spirit Battle in World of Light and Spirit Board, Magolor's spirit possesses one male Robin (a magic user) and is fought in the Halberd stage with the theme "C-R-O-W-N-E-D". In this battle, the screen will occasionally flip upside down, which is a reference to the fight against Magolor Soul in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

Music

Magolor has several musical themes for his different forms.

Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler

Main article: Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler

Magolor's theme song, which plays on the main menu and when Kirby visits him in the Lor Starcutter, can be heard as music 002 in Kirby's Return to Dream Land's Jukebox. It is titled "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler".

The song is remixed as the theme of Magolor's Shoppe in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and the Celebration Picture "The Shape of a Heart" in Kirby Star Allies.

Additionally, it has a variation in later games which is titled 異空いくうヲカケル旅人たびびと (The Traveler Across Another Dimension) in Japanese and "Interdimensional Traveler" in English. This version is used for:

Welcome Your New Overlord

Main article: Welcome Your New Overlord

Magolor's boss battle theme can be heard as music 103 in Kirby's Return to Dream Land's Sound Test. On Kirby Wii Music Selection and Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack, it is titled 支配しはいしてアゲルヨォ (Fall Under My Rule) in Japanese. Its English title is "Welcome Your New Overlord," from the Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe Jukebox.

Both the Japanese and English track titles are part of Magolor's dialogue in the "Let Me Explain Everything" cutscene.[7][8]

C-R-O-W-N-E-D

Main article: C-R-O-W-N-E-D

Magolor's second phase boss battle theme can beard heard as music 105 in Kirby's Return to Dream Land's Jukebox. It is titled "C-R-O-W-N-E-D", or simply "CROWNED" in some later games.

This track has been remixed twice as the Bonus Level music in Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe.

  • The first remix for the normal level is still titled "'C-R-O-W-N-E-D";
  • The second remix for the secret level is titled "C-R-O-W-N-E-D (Reprise)" (or "CROWNED: Ver.2" in some later games).

Other remixes of this track can be found in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Kirby Star Allies.

Etymology

Magolor's name is derived from the word "magic" or "mage", as well as the name of his ship, the Lor Starcutter. This is true for his Japanese name, as well; マホロア (Mahoroa) is taken from 魔法まほう (mahou, magic) and the Lor's Japanese name, ローア (Rōa). According to the developers on a Miiverse post, his name is also taken from the Japanese term まほろば (mahoroba), meaning "wonderful place" or "arcadia".[9]

There is another in-universe meaning for Magolor's name, as well. During the second stage of the Corrupt Hyness fight in Heroes in Another Dimension in Kirby Star Allies, the Boss Description page in the pause menu states that Mafo means "lie" in Hyness' language, while Lor means "paradise". While not identical, it can be assumed that Magolor's name derives from these two terms and translates to something along the lines of "false paradise".

Naming errors

Screencap of the North American website for Kirby's Return to Dream Land, misspelling Magolor's name as "Magalor". Note that his name is spelled correctly in the paragraph below.

In several official sources, Magolor's name is improperly spelled "Magalor". It is possible that the misspelling derives from how the name is pronounced. This can be seen both on the North American website for Kirby's Return to Dream Land (archive link) and in Magolor's Dream Friend move-set in Kirby Star Allies ("Magalor Surge"). This appears to be unintentional, as Magolor's name is spelled correctly in other places in both instances, and the name of the move from Kirby Star Allies would be corrected for Kirby Fighters 2 and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.

The same misspelling was used in the title of Magolor's Kirby Star Allies Dream Friend debut trailer, which in turn was never fixed. It is only present in the American English version of the trailer, as all other language versions correctly spell his name.

Trivia

  • According to a Miiverse post by the developers, he speaks a language that "could be called 'Magolorese'", which mostly consists of gibberish, but has a few recognizable words such as Kirby's name.[10]
  • In the English version of Kirby's Return to Dream Land, one of Magolor's lines has him mention that he's "way behind on his chores" and he "needs a haircut". This was not in the original Japanese text. The line was retranslated more accurately for Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, instead having him mention he has "other planets to visit" and "other things to do".
  • On October 23, 2015, Satoshi Ishida revealed in a Miiverse post that the Master Crown "took control of" Magolor after Kirby hit him with the Ultra Sword, and that Magolor's final defeat and "liberation from his crimes" was envisioned as a bonus scene that would only play if all "special items" (presumably Energy Spheres) were collected. In the end, it was decided that this was too important to leave out, so it was included in the main game.[11]
  • Magolor is officially acknowledged as egg-shaped by the developers at HAL Laboratory, and he is given the nickname イカサマたまご ("crafty egg", as translated in English by an online CPU name in Kirby's Dream Buffet) by Zan Partizanne. In retaliation, he calls the Three Mage-Sisters 信号機三人娘 ("traffic light trio girls"), and Zan "Parmesan cheese". He also summons a plate of fried eggs when cooked with Cook Potluck in Kirby Star Allies, and he's also depicted on egg carton merchandise from Kirby's Pupupu Market called "Magolor Brand Egg Grade AAA".
  • In Kirby: Art & Style Collection, one page detailing concept art for Magolor revealed that the use of yellow in his design is meant to foreshadow his betrayal in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, with an annotation highlighting the color's association with betrayal in Christianity (said association came from its use in post-classical European art as a visual motif for Judas Iscariot, the disciple of Jesus who aided in his arrest and eventual crucifixion by identifying him in the garden of Gethsemane). Another piece of concept art for Magolor details early designs for his "normal" and "evil" forms, which appear to have become the bases for President Haltmann's design in Kirby: Planet Robobot. A smaller piece of concept art near the end of the book reveals that Magolor was designed as a girl at one point.

  • "So if you see any around here, be sure to grab them, yeah?"

  • "The road from here gets a little bit rougher, but I'm sure you'll be just fine!"
  • "Just hurry up and smash that dragon to smithereens!"

  • "Kirby, it's finally time. Landia is a truly fearsome foe. Super fearsome, even."

  • "You've found # of my Energy Spheres."
  • "And all of the Lor's missing parts are back in place!"

  • "I wonder what caused Landia to attack..."
  • "Out of nowhere, it came after me and my ship!"
  • "You don't suppose it has some weird grudge against me, do you?"
  • "I managed to make an emergency landing, but still...it freaked me out!"

  • "If only I was just a little bit stronger, braver, tougher... Like you, Kirby!"
  • "I would have blasted that crazy old dragon back to late last week."

  • "The Lor is a legendary Halcandran vessel crafted by the ancients."
  • "It's said that an incredible power was used to construct it."
  • "And that the ancients used that same power to craft countless other legendary creations."
  • "I excavated this ship from the volcano where Landia dwells and repaired it."
  • "And I couldn't help but make a few upgrades before taking it for a spin."

  • "He travels the cosmos, fighting foes and helping those in need."
  • "You're a real celebrity, you know."
  • "I'm so lucky to have met you. Me, friends with the legendary Kirby!"
  • "Maybe later you can give me your autograph."

  • "As a token of my gratitude, I'll let you in on a little secret about this ship."
  • "The Lor is a legendary Halcandran vessel crafted by the ancients."
  • "It's said that an incredible power was used to construct it."
  • "This same power gave rise to clockwork stars that soar the cosmos... mysterious items that can bring dreams to life... and countless other legendary creations."
  • "I excavated this ship from the volcano where Landia dwells and repaired it."
  • "But there's another ancient artifact there, one that lets you rule the universe!"
  • "And I have a feeling Landia isn't willing to part with it quite so easily."
  • "So hurry up and defeat that dragon for me, Kirby!"

  • "By the way, I knew about you long before our fateful meeting."
  • "Kirby, the happy-go-lucky hero with the bottomless stomach."
  • "I even know somebody who knows you quite well!"
  • "Even on this world, you're incredibly popular!"
  • "There may even be some folks here who have fought with you before."
  • "If everybody would just get along, it would make things so much easier."
  • "Nothing good comes of fighting. Let's always stay friends, Kirby!"

  • "Kirby, I'm glad you like talking to me so much, but..."
  • "Why don't you stop wasting time and get back to your adventure?"
  • "You Popstar folk sure do take your time, don't you?"

  • "Kirby, please hurry up and get back to your quest. I mean, seriously."
  • "You're a hero, for crying out loud. You should be excited to help me!"

  • "Kirby, it may seem like I'm just hanging out in here, but I'm pretty busy."
  • "I'm way behind on my chores, and I really need a haircut."
  • "So please stop distracting me and get on with your adventure!"

  • "Kirby! Dude. Seriously. Hurry up and finish your quest already."
  • "If you don't actually help me out, your offer to help me is kind of mean..."
  • "SO HURRY UP AND HELP ME OUT, KIRBY!"

  • "Bravo, Kirby. You've truly earned your reputation as a hero. Your help defeating Landia was invaluable."
  • "Ah... At long last, it's mine! The source of limitless power... The Master Crown!"
  • "Obtaining this crown has been my ultimate goal all along!"
  • "What's with all the weird looks? Fine. Let me explain everything."
  • "I fought Landia by myself and lost. So I fled to Planet Popstar. That's when the thought struck me... I could have you defeat Landia for me! A stroke of genius, I know."
  • "You even helped me repair my Starcutter. I really did appreciate that, by the way."
  • "Anyway... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The time has come for your planet... No! The time has come for the ENTIRE UNIVERSE to bow down to me. And for being such a big help in all of this, your planet gets to go first!"
  • "Prepare to bow, Popstar! Welcome your new overlord!"
  • "Hi there! My name is Magolor."
  • "I'm from another dimension, but I just love Planet Popstar. I can't get enough of it!"
  • "Things got a bit hectic when I first arrived, but that's all in the past, thanks to Kirby."
  • "To make up for all that fuss, I built Kirby a theme park right here in Dream Land!"
  • "It's got special stages where you can play with different Copy Abilities."
  • "You know, some of those stages can be a bit difficult... Hmmm..."
  • "Oh, but I know YOU'LL be just fine! Why don't you try to clear them all?"
  • "You can even face off against me in some of the stages! Hee hee hee...!"
  • "So, what do you say...? Are you ready to check out my amazing theme park?"
  • "Let's go!"
  • "Well, look what we have here! You must be Kirby. I hear you're a newcomer to the Dream Kingdom. My name is Magolor! I'm the owner of this Shoppe."
  • "What's the Shoppe, you ask? Well, we sell weapons, armor, support items... and those wonderful little Gem Apples! You can use them a ton of different ways. Take your time and take a look!"
  • "Hey, Kirby... I'm glad you like coming to the Shoppe so much, but... why don't you stop wasting time and get back to your quests? What, me? I'm not particularly interested in the Dream Kingdom... I just hope you like my merchandise!"
  • "You know, buy 50 more Gem Apples, and I bet you'll see that tree get bigger!"
  • "Happy Sunday, Kirby— or Magolor Day, as I like to call it! What's so special about today, you ask? If you buy Gem Apples...I'll give you extra! Look at me! What a nice guy I am, right?"
  • "Bravo, Kirby. You've truly earned your reputation as a hero. Your help powering up all that gear was invaluable. Anyway... The time has come for every last Shoppe... No! The time has come for the DREAM KINGDOM to bow down to me! ... Gotcha! Hee-hee! Were you shocked? The fact that you powered up all that gear to DX grade... You really and truly are something else! I hope you keep on stopping by! Thanks for everything, Kirby!"
  • "Well, look what we have here!"
  • "You must be Kirby. I hear you're a newcomer to the Dream Kingdom."
  • "My name is Magolor! I'm the owner of this Shoppe."
  • "What's the Shoppe, you ask? Well, we sell weapons, armor, and support items."
  • "Take your time and take a look!"
  • "Here you can buy weapons! Equipping a weapon makes your attack go up, so that's neat."
  • "There are lots to choose from, like Swords, Hammers, Staffs, and Flasks!"
  • "Buy a weapon when you're ready to be stronger."
  • "Next up, armor! Equipping armor boosts your stamina."
  • "We're always getting in new hats and helmets, perfect for keeping your whole body safe!"
  • "(But its also perfectly fine to just choose one you look good in.)"
  • "Third in the list is support items! These are various kinds of useful items that'll help you out."
  • "There are potions that'll fill up your power when you use them during a quest..."
  • "and Codexes that, once read, will grant you their effects permanently! Reading really is fundamental!"
  • "Fourth is Stickers! There are items that you use when playing online!"
  • "They'll help you share your feelings when you're in a quest."
  • "There may also be Stickers of your favorite characters, so definitely take a look."
  • "Last, we have Gem Apples! These are handy items that can be used for lots of different stuff!"
  • "Whether it's weapons, armor, support items, or Stickers..."
  • "you'll need Gem Apples to buy all of them!"
  • "And that's pretty much it!"
  • "See? Just chock full of stuff that'll come in handy on your adventure, right?"
  • "Of course! Now why don't you do some shopping with those Gem Apples you've got there?"
  • "You're always welcome at my Shoppe!"
  • "Welcome, Kirby! You won't want to miss this!"
  • "I'm giving out a free sample of Gem Apples today! You can find them in the Gem Apples section."
  • "Welcome, Kirby! Bit of good news!"
  • "Some weapons and armor that you don't own are on sale! What an opportunity!"
  • "Hey, Kirby! I wonder what sort of adventure awaits us?"
  • "I'm a bit busted-up about my broken ship, but there's something quite exciting about all this..."
  • "It makes me want to go on my own big adventure too!"

  • "Hey...Kirby. I imagine you're hoping I'll say something really clever and/or insightful since you keep talking to me, but..."
  • "I'm fresh out of words. Consider me an ellipsis, if you will. An infinite series of dots ever repeating across a vast expanse of sweet, unknowable silence."
  • "We'll yak it up another time, ya? Hee hee hee!"

  • "Hey, Kirby! Welcome to Merry Magoland!"
  • "I built this theme park and filled it with all kinds of subgame attractions and other cool stuff!"
  • "I even made a Stamp Rally. It's super fun! Try out the various subgame attractions, and collect a bunch of stamps as you go."
  • "Oh, and as a special thanks for stopping by, I've got a souvenir for ya. You're welcome!"
  • "The Souvenir Shop in the Entrance Plaza will hold on to all your souvenirs for safe keeping. Be sure to check it out when you have time!
  • "Now, off you go--have fun out there!"

  • "Hey, Kirby!"
  • "Are you enjoying my subgame attractions here in Magoland?"
  • "Only a small section of the park is open right now, so there's just the two attractions available."
  • "But in the full version, we'll have 10 subgame attractions for ya, and all of them can be played by up to 4 players by sharing Joy-Con controllers!"
  • "There's a lot more to experience too! Stamp Rallies, masks, souvenir items... So much fun stuff!"
  • "You and some of your best buds can come on by to enjoy all we'll have to offer."

  • "Hey, Kirby! Welcome to Merry Magoland!"
  • "Are you enjoying the subgame attractions?"
  • "In the full version, you'd be able to connect to the internet and learn fun facts from Magolands around the world.
  • "However, that feature is not available in this demo... Apologies, my dude."
  • "I wonder what sort of fun facts we'll be able to hear about? I can't wait to find out!"
  • "If you play the full version, I'd welcome you to come back and talk to me here. It'll be a fun feature!"

Note: quotes specific to Magolor Epilogue have been separated.

  • One last thing. There's something I want to ask you.
  • Why did you decide to help me? I mean, I was a complete stranger to you at the time, right?
  • What is it, Kirby? Why are you making that face? Is it really that silly of a question?
  • Hm. I suppose if someone else was in trouble, I'd help them out too...
  • I mean, if YOU were in trouble somehow, I'd be the first one to come help you out!
  • Can you guess why? It's because we're friends!
  • Let's keep on being great friends to each other, Kirby...OK?

  • "I'm amazed at how kind everyone is! You're all such easy targ─ Er, I mean, easygoing folks! And none more so than you."

  • "Kirby, it may seem like I'm just hanging out in here, but I'm pretty busy."
  • "I have other planets to visit, other things to do..."
  • "So please stop distracting me and get on with your adventure!"

  • One last thing. I may have told you a teeny, tiny, itsy-bitsy lie. Sorry about that.
  • Aw, don't give me that look. I guess it may have been several lies...but who's counting, right?
  • Anyway, the truth is...I'm not really from Halcandra. Have you seen the place? It's a dusty mess!
  • But I did spend a lot of time traveling to different spots around here, and I eventually discovered the Lor Starcutter by the volcano.
  • So, the part about me being all alone on Halcandra for a very, very long time? That part's true.
  • But I wanted you to come here too! That's why I lied. This planet is just too, too amazing...
  • It's a veritable paradise of mysterious magic and unknown technology! Or so they say.
  • Anyway, I want to make things right, and there's no better way to do that...than to tell you about my lifelong dream!
  • Truth be told, I want to hear the screams of every living being in the universe...
  • Screams of JOY, that is, as they visit my very own amusement park! It'd have all kinds of surprises!
  • But I'd have to work suuuper hard to become the manager of an amusement park like that. Hmmm.
  • Maybe I'd start small. Open my own shop first. I could sell lots of different items...
  • Ooo! If I do open my own shop, you'll have to come visit it, Kirby!
  • I'll hook you up with the best deals. My prices will be so fair they're practically a steal! No foolin'!
  • I guess what I'm saying is...no matter where you go and no matter where we may meet...
  • Let's always stay the best of friends, Kirby!

  • "Kirby... Ugh! I hate having to rely on you, and your vacant stare when I revealed my grand plan was truly insulting. Well, let's see if you can break this thing on my head. If you can, then someday...hee hee heee...I may get to toy with you again!"
  • I can still attack whatever's in front of me with a ball of magic. It's a start...
  • What if I could unleash up to 3 attacks in a row? That might help me get my powers back a little quicker.
  • If my attacks could travel farther, distant enemies would become easy targets!
  • If I charge up my attacks, I could unleash Revolution Orbs (press and hold B, then release). Now we're talkin'!
  • Aha! I should make the charge time for my Revolution Orbs (press and hold B, then release) shorter! I'm so smart.
  • If I keep charging, I could make a Revolution Flame (hold B even longer before releasing) that melts ice...and torches marshmallows.
  • If I make my attacks fly way farther, then nothing will be able to stand (directly) in my way!
  • What my Revolution Flame (hold B even longer before releasing) could really use now is a shorter charging time...
  • I bet I could make my Revolution Flame (hold B even longer before releasing) waay more powerful. That would really heat things up.
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but there's plenty of potential. I'll throw some ideas out there and see what happens...
  • So much power! This attack might even be a match for a certain spherical someone...

  • Attacking upward...the mark of true power.
  • If I make my attacks fly higher, I'll be able to hit things that are waaay up above me.
  • I know! I'll unleash 2 upward attacks at once. Double the damage and doubly as devious.
  • Attacking above me with Upward Revolution Flame (↑ + press and hold B, then release) would be super handy. I do like to aim high...
  • Hm. I should make my attacks fly even higher. With my skill, they might keep soaring forever!
  • If I made my Upward Revolution Flame (↑ + press and hold B, then release) a TON more powerful...no skies would be safe from me!
  • I can't boost this and further for now, but I'll come up with something eventually. Just have to think uppity thoughts...
  • So much power! I could use this to attack and rule over a floating kingdom in the sky...if I wanted to, that is.

  • Awww! I can't fly anymore? I can still glide a little bit, but...it's just not the same.
  • If I can just fly for a little while, then I'll be able to cross some of the bigger gaps.
  • A bit more flight time should help me reach those extra-high places. Then I'd really be gettin' somewhere!
  • What if I could fly for even longer? Then I could float my way back up if I start to fall down a hole. That'd be fantastic!
  • I'm not gonna turn down even MORE time flying. There'd be no gap I couldn't cross!
  • With a last little boost, I could stay in the air forever! Magolor's almost back, baby!
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but I'm definitely not done yet. Just need to get my head out of the clouds...
  • So much power! I'm finally flying high again! Now I can soar through endless skies with...my friends...

  • I don't have a lot of health, so I'll have to be careful not to get hit. Maaan, losing powers is no fun...
  • I should have a little more health. Then it'll be harder for enemies to take me down.
  • Having even more health would really come in handy if I get surrounded.
  • Even more health? All this hard work is really paying off!
  • What if I had—just spitballing here—even more health? Then strong enemies wouldn't stand a chance against me!
  • There's still room to have even more health. I want to be as tough as they come!
  • I'll never turn down a chance to have even more health. Being unstoppable is fun!
  • I suppose I could have even more health... I mean, what's the downside?
  • Should I have even more health? Only if I want to make sure I never lose again...sooo, yes. Hee hee!
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but there must be a way to make me even tougher! Just need to right idea to hit me...
  • So much power! I've surpassed my own limits. Surprising, considering how things were going before... Guess I'm a real tough guy now!

  • I can guard against enemy attacks, but it still kinda hurts a bit when they hit. Ow...
  • I'll conjure a Magic Barrier (L/R). If an enemy attacks that, I won't get hurt at all!
  • I'll cast Magic Counter too. Then if my Magic Barrier gets attacked, it'll attack back. Way to stand up for yourself, Magic Barrier!
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but my barriers could definitely be even stronger. Just need to get past this creative block...
  • So much power! Now I can protect everything I care about...and everyone else too, I guess.

  • Me? Get up to my sneaky, dirty tricks again? I would never...unless no one is looking.
  • Maybe I could extend how long it takes before my combos end. That would make it easier to perform them...and I'd feel a little cooler too.
  • Oh! What if food sometimes appears after I defeat an enemy? That'd really help me keep my health up!
  • I suppose I could walk and run a bit faster... I'm a busy guy, after all.
  • If I had a LOT more time before my combos ended, I could score some seriously big numbers!
  • Being invincible for a while after I take damage would fool so many enemies. Their confused faces... Oh, now I'm giggling! Hee hee hee!
  • Being able to earn more Magic Energy would let me unleash my Magolor Cannon and Black Hole spells a lot more often!
  • Having food appear more often when an enemy is defeated would make things a LOT less stressful for me. Gotta look out for myself!
  • Earning even more Magic Energy means even more Magolor Cannons and Black Holes. Look out, enemies! You're about to have a bad day.
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but there's still more room for Trickery. Just need to think up new kinds of trouble to cause...
  • So much power! With mischief this mighty, I could create an entire amusement park full of fun attractions and devious challenges...

  • Thank badness, I can still make bombs with my magic. They even wait before exploding!
  • What if I made the blasts from my bombs a bit bigger? I might even hit things through walls.
  • Maybe I could unleash 2 bombs at once... Why not? I can always conjure more, and blasting stuff is fun!
  • Creating Mighty Magic Bombs (↑, then ↓ + B) would be fun...and so would watching my enemies try to escape the blast! Hee hee!
  • Unleashing 3 bombs at once? Sure, why not! That would blast all of my enemies in one go. Hee hee!
  • If I make my Mighty Magic Bombs (↑, then ↓ + B) a TON more powerful, it'll be way harder for enemies to get away from their explosions!
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but there must be ways to make it stronger... Normally, I'd be bursting with ideas!
  • So much power! Feels like I've perfected my pyrotechnics. This much firepower could make for a flashy fireworks show in the future...

  • My Dash is still strong enough to hurt enemies and put out fires. Phew!
  • Dashing a longer distance would make it much easier to hit enemies...and help me get my powers back a bit faster.
  • I should try to activate a second Magolor Surge while I'm already in the middle of one. That would really speed this whole thing up.
  • I bet I could add on a Surge Burst (A during a Magolor Surge). First I'll ram 'em, then I'll slam 'em. Hee hee hee...
  • Doing 3 Magolor Surges in a row sounds like a pretty good idea. I bet I could aim it in a few new directions too!
  • Y'know what? I think I'll treat myself to a waaay stronger Magolor Surge (Dash + B). Then I'll tackle a bunch of enemies all at once!
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but I'm close to figuring it out... Feels like my mind is racing!
  • So much power! I'm so fast it's frightening. There's no danger I can't outrun now...except the kind I cause myself, I suppose. Hee hee.

  • With one attack, I can wipe out every enemy in front of me. As soon as I've stored up enough Magic Energy, it'll be time to cut loose!
  • Maybe I could squeeze a few more hits in when I fire my Magolor Cannon. Then my enemies will definitely know what hit 'em... Me!
  • I should make my Magolor Cannon HUGE. That would knock out any enemies that dare to stand in my way! Or in front of me, at least.
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but there's room to grow. Just have to maintain a cannon-do attitude!
  • So much power! With an attack this fierce, I could be a big, bad boss again...maaaybe...

  • I can use my magic to summon spikes that pop out of the ground and pierce enemies. They'll even linger for a while! That'll come in handy.
  • Deadly Needles are cool and all, but even bigger Deadly Needles would make it easier to hit enemies. I like the sound of that...
  • I should summon Double Deadly Needles (↓↑ + press and hold B, then release). Twice the chance to get my point across!
  • I'll shorten the charge time for Double Deadly Needles (↓↑ + press and hold B, then release). They're just too fun!
  • Yep! I'm gonna make my Deadly Needles even bigger. I'm talkin' huge!
  • It's time for...Double Deadly Needles Deluxe (↓↑ + hold B extra long before releasing)! Fresh kebabs, comin' right up! Hee hee.
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but it definitely could be stronger. Just need to point myself in the right direction...
  • So much power! I never imagined such a spike in the strength of my, uh, spikes. I could use this to take over all the terrain I want!

  • Sneaking around invisibly AND passing though certain walls? Don't mind if I do!
  • What if I stay hidden even longer? Hee hee! I'm so sneaky!
  • Aha! I be I can make it easier to damage enemies when I reappear. First I'll hide, then I'll hit 'em with an explosion!
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but if it was even more powerful...then I could, um... Oh, shoot. Thought just vanished.
  • So much power! Better stop here. If this attack gets any stronger, I could end up warping to other worlds! Ooo, scary.

  • If I store up enough Magic Energy, this attack can pull in any enemies around me. It'll suck up special blocks too. Practical and powerful!
  • I bet I could fit a lot more hits into each attack with this move. Any enemies that get sucked up would have a reeeal bad time...hee hee.
  • If I make my Black Hole attacks super huge, no one will be able to escape me! Muahaha!
  • I can't boost this any further for now, but there are definitely ways to make it stronger. Too many ideas swirling around...
  • So much power! If this attack gets any hungrier, it might slurp up entire dimensions!

  2. "As a token of my gratitude, I'll let you in on a little secret about this ship.
The Lor is a legendary Halcandran vessel crafted by the ancients.
It's said that an incredible power was used to construct it.
This same power gave rise to clockwork stars that soar the cosmos...
mysterious items that can bring dreams to life...
    and countless other legendary creations.
I excavated this ship from the volcano where Landia dwells and repaired it.
But there's another ancient artifact there, one that lets you rule the universe!
And I have a feeling Landia isn't willing to part with it quite so easily.
So hurry up and defeat that dragon for me, Kirby!

Kirby, the happy-go-lucky hero with the bottomless stomach.
I even know somebody who knows you quite well!
Even on this world, you're incredibly popular!
There may even be some folks here who have fought with you before.
If everybody would just get along, it would make things so much easier.
Nothing good comes of fighting. Let's always stay friends, Kirby!

Interviewer: Magolor from Kirby's Return to Dream Land also makes an appearance, doesn't he? Why were his clothes changed to green, instead of the original blue?
Kumazaki: For one thing, Magolor's original color scheme doesn't quite match the style of the Dream Kingdom. And it's not like he just disappeared and disguised his identity so he could appear in front of Kirby again (laughs). This is a parallel [universe], and the part where he says "My name is Magolor!" is also parallel [meaning, he has no reason to hide because this isn't the same Kirby he met before]. Magolor is a very popular character who was crucial to the story of Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and I'm sure many of you have wondered about his relationship to the Magolor of this game; even though it's a parallel [universe], he is the same person [lit. "he is appearing as himself"].
Interviewer: I see. That clears things up.
Kumazaki: But the Dream Kingdom's story takes place in another world, so it's not as if Magolor is atoning for his misdeeds (from the story of Kirby's Return to Dream Land). If anything, we wanted to have someone who'd have a keen commercial interest in making transactions. We didn't want the billing process to be seen negatively, so we left it to Magolor (laughs).
Interviewer: So he was the right person for the job.
Kumazaki: The reason why his clothes are green is that he's dressed for the shop. Also, since he's a liar, white is a good look for innocence (laughs)." –Nintendo DREAM (July 2017)
