“ | Watch out for this sweepin' machine. | ” | — Description of Broom Hatter from the Kirby: Triple Deluxe website |
Broom Hatter (alternatively spelt Broomhatter[1]) is a recurring enemy in the Kirby series. Since her debut in Kirby's Dream Land, she has continued to make constant appearances throughout most of the main series and several spin-offs. Broom Hatter typically does not provide any Copy Ability, but in Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby Star Allies, she gives Kirby the Cleaning ability.
Characteristics
Broom Hatter's basic appearance is that of a short, yellow creature with no visible face, wearing a black, pointed hat (similar to that of a stereotypical witch) and brown shoes. She always carries a broom, which she usually uses for sweeping the ground. She is a relatively harmless and basic foe, whose behavior does not change much between games. She is often seen sweeping on the letter "L" in HAL Rooms.
Broom Hatter is described as an apprentice witch by her trophy in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. She is frequently referred to with feminine pronouns, which can also be seen in that trophy description, along with blurbs from Play Nintendo. However, the Guest Star description for Kirby Star Allies instead uses masculine pronouns, though the Play Nintendo website for said game still refers to Broom Hatter as female.[2] For the purposes of this page, Broom Hatter is assumed to be female outside of specific references to "his" role in Kirby Star Allies the game.

Kirby's Dream Land 3
In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Broom Hatter is first encountered in the fifth stage of Grass Land. Unlike in previous installments of the Kirby series, she yields a Copy Ability in this game—by inhaling and swallowing Broom Hatter, Kirby can acquire the Clean ability, which, in its basic form, allows him to use a broom very similar in appearance to that used by this enemy. Apart from this, her behavior remains mostly the same as in Kirby Super Star, although she moves slightly faster and covers a greater distance with each sweep.
