|
Glunk is an amphibious enemy who resembles a sea anemone with a green or yellow body and pink or red, sometimes vaguely hair-like tentacles on top of its head, with a face consisting solely of two big, round eyes with black pupils. Glunk has an extremely common presence in the Kirby series, having appeared in every main-series game and some of the spin-off titles as well. It does not yield any Copy Abilities in any of its appearances.
Glunk usually resides in water, but it can be commonly found on dry land as well. Glunk is incapable of moving on its own, instead staying attached to a floor, wall, or ceiling. Its only strategy of self defense is to regularly blow bubble-like projectiles out of the mouth atop its head in whichever direction it may be facing. If Glunk is hit (and not defeated), it may be dislodged, where it will then fall down to the next available floor and resume its normal behavior (it will not reattach to a wall or ceiling). In many games, Glunk sinks very slowly in water when not attached to a surface.
Glunk's name is from an onomatopoeia for the sound of an object sinking to the bottom of a body of water.

Kirby's Dream Land
Glunk made its first appearance in Kirby's Dream Land, and can be encountered on the Float Islands stage. It is one of the few enemies which does not have an alternate counterpart replacing it in the Extra Game. Unlike in future titles, Glunk's projectiles may travel sideways from the top of its head. In addition, some Glunks can detach at will from the ceiling to drop to the floor where they will reposition, a behavior that Glunks do not have in any subsequent game. It is worth 1000 points when defeated.
Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
Glunk appears again in Kirby's Adventure and its remake Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, keeping its basic look and behavior from the previous game, though streamlining the latter into the more familiar ones seen for the remainder of the series. It can blow up to four bubbles out the top of its head, and is worth 800 points when defeated.

Glunk appears in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and Kirby: Squeak Squad, retaining its look and function from Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.

When possessed, Glunk can be made to swim through water and move about on land very slowly, and can be made to fire its projectiles, though only upward. Interestingly, when possessed, Glunk is unable to pass through the bottom of a suspended area of water, but it can pass through the sides.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Glunk appears in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, making its first 3D appearance since Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. It gains a little more durability than it had in previous titles, allowing it to potentially survive an attack, whereupon it will detach from its previous position and drift downward until finding a new floor to rest upon. It also appears in the remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, with its most recent design.

Kirby's Blowout Blast
Glunk appears in Kirby's Blowout Blast as a stationary enemy that can be defeated for 100 base points. Due to the 3D nature of this game, Glunk does not pose much of a threat to Kirby, as it cannot hit him unless he is directly overhead, which is not a common occurrence.
Kirby Star Allies
Glunk returns in Kirby Star Allies, acting the same as it did in its previous appearances. Starting with this game, it has noticeably larger eyes.
In Kirby Star Allies, Glunk can be found in the following levels and stages:
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Glunk makes another appearance as an enemy in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. In this game, it fires a spread of three shots in different directions, instead of a single stream straight up. When latched to a wall, Glunk shoots these out in the same direction, but at different arcs. When over water, Glunk sits atop a plank of wood to keep it afloat, as it will sink otherwise.
Glunk also appears as one of the collectible figures, being found in Vol. 2. Its figure lacks a description.
In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Glunk can be found in the following stages:
Trivia
- Despite appearing in every main-series game and several spin-offs, Glunk has never been represented in any collection listing except as a Keychain and figure. As neither of these provide descriptions, there is no official flavor text to describe this enemy.
