Arena Waddle Dee doesn't have much personality, but since he tries to fight [[User:Gigi/Kirby citation|Kirby]]<ref>"'''''Kirby''' is the main character and namesake of the [[Kirby (series)|''Kirby'' series]].''" –[[User:Gigi/Kirby citation|Kirby]] on WiKirby, check out the page for more information.</ref> in The Arena, it's safe to assume that he's a very courageous Waddle Dee. This is further proven upon in a lot of his modern appearances, but mentioning those here would spoil the rest of this supercalifragilistic page. Anyhow, Arena Waddle Dee can also be described as very silly, foolish, or maybe even a nincompoop. This is mainly due to the fact that he is used as a joke in every official appearance, being the weakest enemy in every [[Boss Endurance]] mode he appears in. But we will always love him no matter what, and one day, he might clobbah dat dere Kirbeh.

[[File:KDL Waddle Dee sprite.png]] Waddle Dees make their debut appearance in ''[[Kirby's Dream Land]]'', the first game in the ''Kirby'' series. Unfortunately, not a single Waddle Dee in this game has a distinct identity. This means that Arena Waddle Dee also does not officially appear in this game. However, since Kirby travels throughout a large portion of [[Dream Land]] in this game, it would make sense that at least one of the Waddle Dees he came across might have been Arena Waddle Dee. Additionally, in this game's [[Extra Mode|Extra Game]], certain Waddle Dees can be seen jumping, which Arena Waddle Dee is also seen doing in future appearances. Sadly, Extra Game is probably not [[canon]].

As the name implies, ''[[Kirby's Dream Land 2]]'' is a direct sequel to ''Kirby's Dream Land'', meaning that it does not have Arena Waddle Dee (or Arena Waddle Dee 2: Electric Boogaloo). However, this game marks the return of Waddle Dees that can jump, this time actually appearing in the main story mode of the game.

Once again, only a single Waddle Dee appears in ''[[Kirby's Toy Box]]'', being exclusive to the ''Pinball'' mini-game. Instead of being Arena Waddle Dee, this might be the same Waddle Dee from ''Kirby's Pinball Land'', who shall be nicknamed '''Pinball Waddle Dee'''.

However, this game also had trial versions of both [[Samurai Kirby]] and [[Megaton Punch]], which unfortunately cannot be found anywhere online. However, according to several sources, these were actually exact same versions of these [[Sub-Game]]s that would later appear in ''[[Kirby Super Star]]'', meaning that there is a second Waddle Dee in this game, appearing only in Megaton Punch, which will be covered in the ''Kirby Super Star'' section of this page.

He is fought in the same colosseum as both of the Mid-Boss All Stars, which also appears in the background of the victory screen after [[Kirby]] beats The Arena, and seems to feature the great [[King Dedede]].

Arena Waddle Dee's behaviour in this game is very simple. In fact, it's non-existent, as he simply stands still and can only be moved from being attacked by Kirby. Just like a couple of the previous games, ''[[Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards]]'' only has a single Waddle Dee, known as [[Waddle Dee (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards)|Waddle Dee]]. But this Waddle Dee is special, since he's one of the main characters in the game. He is first seen in [[Pop Star - Stage 1]], where he gets possessed by [[Dark Matter (cloud)|Dark Matter]] and turns into a [[Waddle Doo]]. Ignoring the weird lore implications, Kirby beats him up and Waddle Dee joins him on his journey. Since this is such a cool Waddle Dee, he might actually be Arena Waddle Dee, who is also very cool. A common theory in the ''Kirby'' community suggests that Waddle Dee (the one from this game) is actually [[Bandana Waddle Dee]], but since Waddle Dee (the one this section is talking about) clearly does not have a bandana, there is no way that this theory is actually correct. To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Waddle Dees appear as regular enemies in ''[[Kirby Air Ride]]''. The character that should really be talked about is '''Windmill Tree''', who debuted in this game's [[Fantasy Meadows]] course. It is a big tree with insect-like leaves, and when flown through in Fantasy Meadows, several [[Dale]]s can be found inside. Ever since this game, various Windmill Trees have made appearances in almost every game in the ''Kirby'' series, whether it be a small cameo or a major background element.

Its most famous appearance is in ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'', where the tree is visible in the background of the title screen and [[Cookie Country - Stage 1|Stage 1]] of [[Cookie Country]], as well as appearing in a bubble of sorts in the [[Landia]] section of [[Another Dimension (level)|Another Dimension]]. Multiple Windmill Trees can also be seen in the [[Dream Kingdom#Grasslands|Grasslands]] in ''[[Team Kirby Clash Deluxe]]'' and ''[[Super Kirby Clash]]'', supporting a design that's a sort of mix between the original's four insect-like leaves and the redesign's second set of leaves and thicker trunk. The lore significance of these many Windmill Trees is still unknown.

[[File:KNiDL Waddle Dee sprite.png]] Arena Waddle Dee finally makes his [[Kirby's Triumphant Return|triumphant return]] in ''[[Kirby & The Amazing Mirror]]''. Just like every other main-series game since ''[[Kirby's Adventure]]'', ''Kirby & The Amazing Mirror'' has its very own [[Boss Endurance]] mode. Since this mode is just called Boss Endurance, Arena Waddle Dee is often nicknamed '''Boss Endurance Waddle Dee''' when referring to his appearance in this game. However, despite this mode being called Boss Endurance, this mode is more similar to [[The Arena]], since it lets [[Kirby]] choose any of his [[Copy Ability|Copy Abilities]], as well as giving him [[Maxim Tomato]]es in rest areas. This similarity might be the reason for Arena Waddle Dee's long-awaited return. Furthermore, every battle is also fought in a random order (except for the last two bosses), but unlike in The Arena, Arena Waddle Dee does not have his own battle. Instead, he is fought in one of the three Mid-Boss battles, being the first foe before Kirby battles [[Bombar]] and [[Box Boxer]]. Kirby also has the ability to [[Cell Phone|call]] [[Kirby (species)|his friends]] in this game, but luckily for Arena Waddle Dee, the [[CPU]]s are so stupid that they're just going to get hit and lose their Copy Abilities. Arena Waddle Dee is once again fought in a colosseum, but the audience is a lot closer and easier to see in this game, which now consists [[Cappy|Cappies]], [[Scarfy|Scarfies]], [[Waddle Doo]]s, and even other [[Waddle Dee]]s.

However, there could be an argument made that this Waddle Dee is actually different from Arena Waddle Dee. For one, this Waddle Dee supports a slightly different design from the way Arena Waddle Dee looked in ''[[Kirby Super Star]]'', but this could be argued as being a simple non-[[canon]] redesign, just like [[King Dedede]] (who for some reason is completely absent in this game). Another argument could be that this game takes place in the [[Mirror World]], and that there is no way Arena Waddle Dee could have traveled here. However, he could have simply used the [[Dimension Mirror]], and other characters like [[Moley]] also inexplicably travel between the Mirror World and [[Planet Popstar]]. Therefore, this myth is completely busted.

And here we are! The third and final official appearance of Arena Waddle Dee: ''[[Kirby Super Star Ultra]]''. This is the first game where Arena Waddle Dee is given a name in-game, but unfortunately, he's just called '''Waddle Dee'''. Since this game is a remake of ''[[Kirby Super Star]]'', Arena Waddle Dee will obviously be completely unchanged from his original appearance.

====The Arena====
====The Arena====
[[File:KSSU Bandana Waddle Dee Sprite.png]] Arena Waddle Dee's first appearance in ''Kirby Super Star Ultra'' unsurprisingly has him reprise his role as being a joke boss in [[The Arena]]. Arena Waddle Dee has two "attacks" not present his ''Kirby Super Star'' incarnation, in the form of walking and jumping. Additionally, instead of already being present off-screen when [[Kirby]] enters the battlefield, he is instead seen spawning into existence on-screen near the middle of the arena, exactly like other [[Mid-Bosses]] in ''Kirby Super Star Ultra''. This game also sees the introduction of [[The True Arena]] to the ''Kirby'' series, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a '''True Arena Waddle Dee'''. Arena Waddle Dee is also once again given a very minor redesign, since this game redid all of ''Kirby Super Star''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s pixel art due to it being on the [[Nintendo DS]]. However, strangely enough, he has also been given a blue bandana. This very likely confirms that the bandana-wearing Waddle Dee from [[Megaton Punch]] and Arena Waddle Dee are actually the same character! Since he still doesn't have an official name, this might mean that Arena Waddle Dee should be renamed to Megaton Punch Waddle Dee, but since that's a stupid name, and since there's absolutely nothing else he could be named after, he will continue to be referred to as Arena Waddle Dee.

====Megaton Punch====
====Megaton Punch====
Since Arena Waddle Dee is now practically confirmed to be Megaton Punch Waddle Dee, a summary on his role in Megaton Punch should also be covered here. Disappointingly, his role is exactly the same as in ''Kirby Super Star'', simply being the first opponent Kirby faces in his planet-destroying competition. But hey, at least it makes powerscaling a lot more interesting. The only thing about this [[Sub-Game]] that was changed in ''Kirby Super Star Ultra'' was the removal of two-player support, but this mode always made player 2 play as [[Knuckle Joe]] anyway, so the only reason it was brought up is to extend the length of this page.

Arena Waddle Dee's undoubtedly biggest role in ''Kirby Super Star Ultra'' is in [[Revenge of the King]], specifically in the fifth and final stage: [[The Revenge]]. After [[Kirby]] defeats [[Kabula]] in [[Mt. Dedede Sky]], he comes crashing into [[Castle Dedede]]. Arena Waddle Dee immediately warns [[King Dedede]] about this, telling him to stay calm. After Kirby defeats the many [[Mid-Boss]]es, the only option left to defeat Kirby is Arena Waddle Dee himself. Unfortunately, just like in The Arena, he isn't a very formidable foe. After his inevitable defeat, he manages to make his way back safely, and gets to sit in the background to watch [[Masked Dedede]] battle against [[Hammer]] Kirby.

After Dedede is dededefeated, he can be seen sadly strolling through the desert, with a bunch of [[Waddle Dee]]s, including Arena Waddle Dee, following right behind. In the same [[staff credits]], a sprite of Kirby and Arena Waddle Dee both using a [[Nintendo DS]] is used as the icon for the "Testing" credits. Even though this may be the very last of Arena Waddle Dee's appearances as the infamous joke boss, it certainly wouldn't be his last appearance in the series.

Arena Waddle Dee once again reappears in ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'' for arguably his biggest role. In this game, he gets to be one of the main four playable characters, along with [[Kirby]], [[Meta Knight]], and [[King Dedede]]. Unfortunately, his moveset is an exact copy of the [[Spear]] ability's moveset, with the only difference being that he uses [[Infinity Jump]]s instead of a [[hover]]. This is also the first time he has a name in-game, simply being called '''Waddle Dee''', despite this game already having [[Waddle Dee]]s as regular enemies. Due to this, one might assume that he is often nicknamed '''[[Spear Waddle Dee]]''', but unfortunately that enemy already exists (making him even less original). Other than being a playable character and appearing in [[Theater#Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe|cutscenes]], he doesn't play a large role. However, this game also sees the long-awaited return of [[The Arena]], meaning that Arena Waddle Dee can still fulfill his life long goal of being a competent fighter in The Arena!

#Bandana Waddle Dee is obviously named after his bandana, but what would happen if he were to lose it? Would he just be called Waddle Dee again? Arena Waddle Dee should definitely have a way to be distinguished from other Waddle Dees, due to being the most important Waddle Dee ever created by the legendary [[Masahiro Sakurai]], and he can't be distinguished by his [[spear]] or [[parasol]] because there are already Waddle Dees using [[Spear Waddle Dee|both]] [[Parasol Waddle Dee|weapons]]!

#Being named after the thing you're wearing is a lot lamer than being named after the things you do, just like how people in real life have last names based on jobs. Waddle Dees are named after the fact that they waddle, [[Rolling Waddle Dee]]s are named after the fact that they roll, [[Swinging Waddle Dee]]s are named after the fact that they swing, and [[WiKirby:April Fools/2019/Dracula Waddle|Dracula Waddles]] are named after the fact that they Dracula, so why should Arena Waddle Dee be any different?

The pay-to-win game where you can no longer pay to win, ''[[Team Kirby Clash Deluxe]]'', takes place in an alternate dimension known as the [[Dream Kingdom]]. However, this reality features many characters bearing the same name and appearances as their equivalents found in other ''Kirby'' games. One of these alternate characters is Arena Waddle Dee, who sits at the [[Gem Apple]] [[Master Crown (boss)|Tree]] all day, waiting for the Dream Kingdom's [[Kirby]] to harvest them every 12 hours, even though the tree will never be able to grow again due to the [[Nintendo 3DS]] eShop being shut down. Arena Waddle Dee (once again referred to as Bandana Waddle Dee, but we've gone over that already) plays one of his biggest roles in the story mode of ''[[Kirby Battle Royale]]'': [[Dedede's Cake Royale]]. While [[Kirby]] is making his way to the tournament after getting invited, he stumbles upon Arena Waddle Dee, who was very eepy on the ground. So eepy, in fact, that Kirby has to CARRY him to the tournament. After finally making his way there, Arena Waddle Dee acts as Kirby's ally in all team matches for the rest of the game. After much struggle, Kirby and Arena Waddle Dee win the tournament and finally get their delicious cake.

For some odd reason, instead of using his iconic spear from ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'', he uses a [[parasol]] with the same moveset as the [[Copy Ability]], which once again means that he doesn't have any original attacks. This is especially strange considering that [[Spear]] is already a Copy Ability available in the game.

Unless, this bandana-less [[Waddle Dee]] using the same moveset as the bandana-wearing Waddle Dee is actually the same Arena Waddle Dee, just after losing his bandana! This would explain why they have the exact same moveset, and is also another argument as to why Arena Waddle Dee should keep that name, since he doesn't always have his bandana, and ''Kirby Battle Royale'' has a mode literally called [[Battle Arena]]!

Arena Waddle Dee (referred to again as Bandana Waddle Dee, that might be a pattern) returns as a playable character in ''[[Kirby Star Allies]]'', being the first [[Dream Friend]] unlocked in the first version of the game. Unlike other Dream Friends, he does not represent a game in the mainline ''Kirby'' series, instead representing [[Waddle Dee]]s in general. His moveset is identical to the one in ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'', but actually good! Not only does his Moon Drop attack now get useful invincibility frames (making it not basically useless against bosses), but [[Kirby Star Allies/Update History|Version 4.0.0]] of the game gave him (alongside [[King Dedede]] and [[Meta Knight]]) a brand new attack, in the form of his Ground Thrust! This is by far the best attack he has, due to its large amount of invincibility and high damage. Additionally, if he jumps during the attack, he can do a type of pole vault jump, though for some reason this is not actually mentioned in game. If he holds the attack button when performing Ground Thrust or pole vault jump, he can actually instantly charge an Arena Copter! Arena Waddle Dee has truly proven himself to be even better with a [[spear]] than [[Kirby]]!

But wait, there's more! This game introduces [[Power Effect]]s, which allows an [[Helper|ally]] to ignite their weapon with an elemental power. Arena Waddle Dee is no exception, as he can use '''Blizzard Spear''', '''Bluster Spear''', '''Sizzle Spear''', '''Splash Spear''', and '''Zap Spear''' to make his moveset even better than it already was! There's also playable [[Parasol Waddle Dee]]s in this game, but that's not important in the context of this page.

Finally, our favorite Dee gets to star in his own (kinda) mode, in the form of '''[[Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!|Guest Star Arena Waddle Dee The Legend of Dee]]'''. Unfortunately, just like the other base-game Dream Friends, Arena Waddle Dee's version of Guest Star ???????????????????????????????????????? Arena Waddle Dee (now back with his bandana) once again appears as a playable character in ''[[Kirby and the Forgotten Land]]'', albeit only by your younger sibling, as he is stuck as player 2. This time, due to nobody in the [[new world]] knowing that rain exists (leading to [[parasol]]s being redundant), Arena Waddle Dee finally gets to use his spear in more than two dimensions! However, on the bright side, there's an entire town dedicated to Arena Waddle Dee: [[Waddle Dee Town]]! Just ignore the fact that he's far from the only [[Waddle Dee]] living in the town, and that unlike Kirby and [[Elfilin]], he doesn't even get his own golden statue, despite also helping them throughout the whole journey. Within Waddle Dee Town's borders, one can encounter many of Arena Waddle Dee's friends and family. One particular character of note is [[Weapons-Shop Waddle Dee]], who, according to a Nintendo Dream issue that nobody could be bothered to search for, actually designed Arena Waddle Dee's spear! He must've felt really betrayed when Arena Waddle Dee used a parasol instead in the hit [[Nintendo 3DS]] game ''[[Kirby Battle Royale]]''. Perhaps this is the true reason why Arena Waddle Dee has no spear evolution.

Speaking of Waddle Dee Town, the [[Colosseum]] is a literal arena, and thus looks very similar to the one in [[The Arena]] in ''[[Kirby Super Star]]'', which may mean that instead of creating a golden statue of Arena Waddle Dee, they created a whole arena based on him! Even though, unlike in ''[[Kirby's Return to Dream Land]]'', Arena Waddle Dee can't be used as player 1 in this mode, he is still very useful in [[Speedrunning|speedruns]], due to him being able to deal some finish damage after Kirby uses [[Crash]].

''[[Kirby's Dream Buffet]]'' does not directly feature Arena Waddle Dee (other than appearing on severeal [[Character Treat]]s), but this game does feature both a [[color]] and [[costume]] based on him for [[Kirby]] to use. Well, the color is just based on a regular [[Waddle Dee]], but it's unlocked right after the bandana + spear costume, so it must be based specifically on Arena Waddle Dee. What's really crazy is that this game also features regular Waddle Dees as [[CPU]] opponents, and they sometimes wear a randomly select costume. So, if a Waddle Dee wears the "Bandana Waddle Dee" costume, they would look indistinguishable from Arena Waddle Dee!

Many [[Waddle Dee (anime character)|Waddle Dee]]s can be seen in the masterpiece that is ''[[Kirby: Right Back at Ya!]]'', living in [[Castle Dedede]] and serving [[King Dedede (anime character)|their king]]. Many can even be seen [[Spear Waddle Dee|wielding spears]] ''(pictured)'', but unfortunately, not a single Waddle Dee is confirmed to be Arena Waddle Dee. Not even the extremely iconic bandana-wearing Waddle Dee from ''[[Kirby Super Star]]'' can be spotted anywhere. This is likely due to the fact that this anime series takes place in a different [[continuity]] than the ''[[Kirby (series)|Kirby]]'' video games, and thus doesn't feature many of the most iconic ''Kirby'' characters. However, it's not impossible that one of the many Waddle Dees would have eventually became Arena Waddle Dee, though it would've had to have happened off-screen.

Arena Waddle Dee is one of the main protagonists of the [[Kirby (novel series)|''Kirby'' novel series]], first appearing in ''[[Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!!]]''. He was created, much like every other [[Waddle Dees (novel characters)|Waddle Dee]], by the [[Kirby Printer]] as a copy of the original [[Waddle Dee (novel character)|Waddle Dee]]. He became a main character by secretly replacing the real Waddle Dee before the events of ''Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!!'', without [[Kirby (novel character)|Kirby]] noticing. Thus, he gained his iconic bandana. Poor Kirby, he really thought he can differentiate his friend from his thousands of copies... At least he can now say he knows the coolest Waddle Dee. Since his identity as Areana Waddle Dee remains a secret, characters mostly call him Bandana Waddle Dee (or simply "Waddle Dee").

|In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee notices that the other Waddle Dees aren't looking as usual, because they are made of yarn. How couldn't King Dedede tell the difference between them and regular Waddle Dees is beyond Arena Waddle Dee's comprehension. Arena Waddle Dee quickly defeats them after they try and kidnap Dedede. He picks up their yarn bodies and knits for himself a sweater. It is good that those were never real Waddle Dees turned into yarn, because if it was true, after everything would be turned back to normal, the sight of the sweater would be too horrible to describe.
|The premise of trying to figure out which similar looking characters are actually impostors trying to do evil things is very similar to the hit game ''[[wikipedia:Among Us|Among Us]]''.

|[[File:V18 Illustration 27.jpg|100px]]
|Protagonist
|In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee helps plan the [[Kirby Café]], and the Dedede Café too. He comes up with amazing ideas like making a big and flashy sign, making all the chairs and tables bounce and most important of all, meat ice cream. Since he is too good at planning cafés, when the cooking competition is announced, the two rival cafés try to convince him to be at their side. [[Meta Knight (novel character)|Meta Knight]] decides that Arena Waddle Dee would be an unfair advantage, so he instead offers him to be a co-judge with him. Meta Knight and Arena Waddle Dee call the competition a tie, and Arena Waddle Dee takes a nap. After he wakes up, [[Chef Kawasaki (novel character)|Chef Kawasaki]] shows him an omurice made by his image. Just look at it, it is so precious.

|Protagonist
|In this volume, the original Waddle Dee has had enough. He builds a fighting tower called the "Buddy Fighters Tower", and challenges Arena Waddle Dee to a duel, a duel for his former buddy, Kirby. He tells Arena Waddle Dee that they would fight to the death, or until Kirby decides who is his real buddy. The destined rivals fight, spear against spear, and they both aren't ready to give up. The conflict gets Kirby attention, who misheard the name "Buddy Fighters Tower" as "Buddy Party Tower", and invited himself into the party. When the Waddle Dees see him, they both claim to be the real Waddle Dee. Seeing how they fight, Kirby notices that Arena Waddle Dee is the clear victor. However, he remembers that Waddle Dee has a gentle nature, and this dramatic duel doesn't sound like Waddle Dee at all. Kirby stops the fight and asks the Waddle Dees to tell the truth. Seeing Kirby's upset eyes, Arena Waddle Dee confesses to everything and explains that he just wanted to be friends with Kirby. He gives the bandana to the original Waddle Dee and tells him that he is a worthy warrior. Kirby forgives him and Arena Waddle Dee tells them that another reality needs him. He ascends to the sky and disappears, never to be mentioned again.

 This box: view  talk  edit
This article is about the Waddle Dee that appears in The Arena. For the regular ol' Waddle Dee, see this page (wait, that's not the right one).
No telling if it's true, but according to the ancient theories, Arena Waddle Dee may reappear in other games depending on whether HAL Laboratory gives him more lore. It seems this being of waddle will wander The Arena until one day he is brought back in a new game. When he returns, hopefully it will be…canon.
— Arena Waddle Dee pause screen text

Arena Waddle Dee[conjectural title][Jambandra title][derived from New Worldian][from internal data][citation needed][dead link][needs verification][sic][1], also referred to as ENEMY, BOSS, or simply Waddle Dee, is, unsurprisingly, a Waddle Dee. He first appeared in Kirby Super Star, where he is used as a joke boss (or possibly mid-boss) in The Arena, being completely motionless but having the most health out of any Waddle Dee. Later on, he would reappear in the Boss Endurance mode of Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, as well as the remake of Kirby Super Star: Kirby Super Star Ultra, always serving largely the same role in each game. Or at least, that's what people want you to think. In reality, he is secretly one of the most important characters in the Kirby series, making appearances in almost every game.

Physical appearance

KSS Waddle Dee.png
Arena Waddle Dee's sprite in Kirby Super Star, which is totally different from a regular Waddle Dee.

Arena Waddle Dee does not look like your typical Waddle Dee. Well, actually, he does, but that doesn't mean he's not special.[2] Just like many other Waddle Dees, he has a light orange skin with black eyes, and weird stubs instead of actual limbs. In Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Arena Waddle Dee gained a minor redesign, making him look identical to every other Waddle Dee in that game. Actually, the redesign happened in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, but he didn't officially appear in that game. Arena Waddle Dee once again got redesigned in Kirby Super Star Ultra, obtaining a very fabulous blue bandana, which he also wears in Revenge of the King. Just ignore the fact that this main game takes place after Spring Breeze, which is a retelling of Kirby's Dream Land, meaning that he somehow lost the bandana before the events of every other game. His lore is already confusing enough. Arena Waddle Dee's only movement consists of standing, walking, and jumping. This may not seem very impressive, but you will definitely be impressed with what else he can do in his unofficial appearances, unless you're already bored and want to read another page instead.

Personality

Arena Waddle Dee doesn't have much personality, but since he tries to fight Kirby[3] in The Arena, it's safe to assume that he's a very courageous Waddle Dee. This is further proven upon in a lot of his modern appearances, but mentioning those here would spoil the rest of this supercalifragilistic page. Anyhow, Arena Waddle Dee can also be described as very silly, foolish, or maybe even a nincompoop. This is mainly due to the fact that he is used as a joke in every official appearance, being the weakest enemy in every Boss Endurance mode he appears in. But we will always love him no matter what, and one day, he might clobbah dat dere Kirbeh.

Etymology

Arena Waddle Dee might also just be named after Waddle Dees.

The etymology Arena Waddle Dee's name might seem very obvious, but it's actually not. First, "Arena" may come from the word "harena", which can mean a sandy place in Latin. This fits Arena Waddle Dee's character greatly, since the arenas in which he is fought always seem to have sand on the ground. The word "Waddle" may be based on the old English word "wade", which means to walk with effort through water or another liquid, although this is unlikely, since Arena Waddle Dee is never seen doing that (he didn't even walk until his second official appearance). Lastly, the word "Dee" may come from "Deez Nuts", a famous internet meme that started gaining a lot of popularity in 2015, but the phrase itself has been around since 1992.

Moveset

Due to being a boss in so many Kirby games, Arena Waddle Dee has a large number of signature attacks which he uses in most of his fights. That sentence definitely wasn't copied from another page, just like the following table, which lists all of Arena Waddle Dee's most notable attacks in the order they first appeared in:

Arena Waddle Dee's moveset
Name First game used Description Notes
Stand Kirby Super Star Arena Waddle Dee does literally nothing. He's just standing there… MENACINGLY! It's not very menacing.
Walk Kirby & The Amazing Mirror Arena Waddle Dee walks forward (left, towards Kirby's start point). Once he reaches the end of the screen, he starts walking the other way (right, towards not Kirby's start point). He walks slightly faster than a regular Waddle Dee. Maybe. Actually probably not.
Jump Kirby Super Star Ultra Arena Waddle Dee jumps forward in the same direction he's walking in. This attack might be a reference to Mario Mario from Mario, since he also jumps.[4] Mario even used to be called Jumpman, what a funny name!
Shooter Cutter Kirby Fighters 2 Arena Waddle Dee shoots out four boomerangs, which don't grant the Cutter ability, since that's not how Copy Abilities work in Kirby Fighters 2. This attack is an overused reference to the boss fight with Marx in Kirby Super Star. Added in version 3.0.0.0.0.0

Game appearances

Arena Waddle Dee's appearances, with appearances in bold being the only ones that matter
Game Role Notes
Kirby series
Kirby's Dream Land Enemy (somewhere, probably) This is the first appearance of Waddle Dees in general. One of these just has to be Arena Waddle Dee, right?
Kirby's Adventure Enemy This is the first game to have a Boss Endurance, as well as a literal Arena, yet Arena Waddle Dee is fought in neither.
Kirby's Pinball Land Enemy exclusive to Wispy-Woods Land This is the first game to only feature one Waddle Dee. This undoubtedly means that this Waddle Dee is Arena Waddle Dee.
Kirby's Dream Course Enemy Why do Waddle Dees have green feet in this game?
Kirby's Avalanche First opponent This is the second game to only feature one Waddle Dee.
Kirby's Dream Land 2 Enemy Waddle Dees can be unnecessarily fast in this game.
Kirby's Block Ball Enemy Waddle Dees can be both blocks and balls.
Kirby's Toy Box Existing, giving 100 points to Kirby This is the third game to only have one Waddle Dee.
Kirby Super Star First official appearance as a boss Well, as official as you can get.
Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy) Playable character This is the first game where a regular Waddle Dee is playable.
Kirby's Dream Land 3 Enemy This is the first game where a Waddle Dee hog rider.
Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom) First opponent (again) This is the fourth game to only have one Waddle Dee.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Supporting protagonist, boss, and playable character in Sub-Games This is the fifth game to only have one Waddle Dee, and the third time a Waddle Dee is playable.
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble Enemy This is the first game that doesn't have a clever note in this wiki table.
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land Enemy This is surprisingly not the last time Kirby's Adventure has been remade.
Kirby Air Ride Enemy This is the last Kirby game according to the Super Smash Bros. series.
Kirby Slide None Since this game does not include characters, it is impossible for Arena Waddle Dee to make an appearance. Despite this, the game is still in the list of his appearances, since including every game is funny.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror Second official appearance as a boss (or Mid-Boss?) Arena Waddle Dee is 8 pixels smaller compared to his appearance in Kirby Super Star.
Kirby: Canvas Curse Enemy and playable character You can play as a Waddle Dee despite them also being enemies, which is kind of weird.
Kirby: Squeak Squad Enemy and playable character, perchance Kirby can use the Ghost ability to control a Waddle Dee. This may hint at the fact that Waddle Dees have souls.
Kirby Super Star Ultra First true appearance as a boss, but again Arena Waddle Dee gains a blue bandana in this game, which might be a reference to Blue Bandanna Waddle Dee.
Kirby's Epic Yarn Possibly The Yarn Waddle Dees aren't real Waddle Dees, so maybe Arena Waddle Dee doesn't appear.
Kirby Mass Attack Cameo in Strato Patrol EOS Appears during the boss fight against Meta Knight.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Playable character This is the first time Arena Waddle Dee is actually useful.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition Various Arena Waddle Dee appears many times in this game, because it has multiple games in it.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe Supporting character Despite the return of The Arena, Arena Waddle Dee does not appear in the mode.
Kirby Fighters Deluxe Why are you reading this? He doesn't even have a role!
Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe Reference King Dedede can wear a Waddle Dee mask, which happens to look exceptionally similar to Arena Waddle Dee. That can't be a coincidence.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse Playable characters They're multiplying.
Kirby: Planet Robobot Supporting character Despite the return of The Arena, Arena Waddle Dee does not appear in the mode. Again.
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe Supporting character This game actually takes place in an alternate dimension, meaning that it has different versions of most characters.
Kirby's Blowout Blast Enemy Since this is a retelling of Kirby's Dream Land, Arena Waddle Dee might be hidden among the regular enemy Waddle Dees. But that's just a theory. A Kirby theory.
Kirby Battle Royale Supporting protagonist For unknown reasons, Arena Waddle Dee is not playable.
Kirby Star Allies Playable character They're multiplying again.
Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn Less possibly This game is not extra epic.
Super Kirby Clash Supporting character This game once again takes place in an alternate dimension with different versions of most characters.
Kirby Fighters 2 Playable character Arena Waddle Dee was added as a playable character in version 3.0.0.0.0.0, despite Bandana Waddle Dee already being in playable.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land Supporting protagonist and playable character If you ever want a second player to join you, just let him know. He'll always be ready!
Kirby's Dream Buffet Reference Kirby can impersonate Arena Waddle Dee in this game.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe Playable character Reprises his usefulness from Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
Super Smash Bros. series
Super Smash Bros. None There is not a single Waddle Dee in the first game.
Super Smash Bros. Melee Trophy Erm, actually, the Super Smash Bros. universe is just a child playing with toys, so these shouldn't count as official appearances.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Various Luigi knows the true potential of a Waddle Dee.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Enemy Run.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirits The Waddle Dee spirit can be enhanced to Bandana Waddle Dee.

Kirby's Dream Land

KDL Waddle Dee sprite.png Waddle Dees make their debut appearance in Kirby's Dream Land, the first game in the Kirby series. Unfortunately, not a single Waddle Dee in this game has a distinct identity. This means that Arena Waddle Dee also does not officially appear in this game. However, since Kirby travels throughout a large portion of Dream Land in this game, it would make sense that at least one of the Waddle Dees he came across might have been Arena Waddle Dee. Additionally, in this game's Extra Game, certain Waddle Dees can be seen jumping, which Arena Waddle Dee is also seen doing in future appearances. Sadly, Extra Game is probably not canon.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

A Waddle Dee-less Arena in Kirby's Adventure (top) and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land (not top).

Arenas make their debut appearance in Kirby's Adventure, the second game in the Kirby series, and reappear in its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. However, the Arenas in this game are different from The Arena in future games. In these Arenas, instead of fighting multiple bosses and Mid-Bosses in a row in one single mode, Kirby instead fights one Mid-Boss at a time in multiple smaller arenas. Unfortunately, none of the arenas let Kirby fight Arena Waddle Dee. This game also features the very first Boss Endurance of the series, but since this mode doesn't even have Mid-Bosses, Arena Waddle Dee had no chance of appearing. Luckily, since this game is a lot longer than Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby might have coincidentally come across Arena Waddle Dee again.

Kirby's Pinball Land

In Kirby's Pinball Land, only a single Waddle Dee appears, being exclusive to Wispy-Woods Land. By process of elimination, this has to be Arena Waddle Dee, or is that not how process of elimination works?

Kirby's Dream Course

For unknown reasons, every Waddle Dee in Kirby's Dream Course has green feet. Since Arena Waddle Dee does not have green feet, it is likely that he does not appear in this game.

Kirby's Avalanche

Umm, can't we just walk together? The forest scares me...
— Waddle Dee's first words

Kirby's Avalanche once again only has a single Waddle Dee, being the first opponent in the game. Unfortunately, process of elimination does not work with only a single subject. Although, this is one of the few Waddle Dees that has ever been seen speaking, one of the others being Arena Waddle Dee. Therefore, there is a likely chance that this is also Arena Waddle Dee.

Kirby's Dream Land 2

An unrelated image.

As the name implies, Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a direct sequel to Kirby's Dream Land, meaning that it does not have Arena Waddle Dee (or Arena Waddle Dee 2: Electric Boogaloo). However, this game marks the return of Waddle Dees that can jump, this time actually appearing in the main Story Mode of the game.

Kirby's Block Ball

KBBa Waddle Dee sprite.png Waddle Dees appear as common enemies in Kirby's Block Ball. They are worth 300 points when bumped into and defeated and will drop food.

Kid Kirby

Ah yes, Kid Kirby, the best game that ever released in 1995. This game is absolutely flawless in every single conceivable way. How could anyone not like this game? It has everything! It has Kids, it has Kirby... it doesn't have Arena Waddle Dee... Nevermind, this game sucks.

Kirby's Toy Box

Once again, only a single Waddle Dee appears in Kirby's Toy Box, being exclusive to the Pinball mini-game. Instead of being Arena Waddle Dee, this might be the same Waddle Dee from Kirby's Pinball Land, who shall be nicknamed Pinball Waddle Dee.

This game also had trial versions of both Samurai Kirby and Megaton Punch, which unfortunately cannot be found anywhere online. However, according to several sources, these were actually exact same versions of these Sub-Games that would later appear in Kirby Super Star, meaning that there is a second Waddle Dee in this game, appearing only in Megaton Punch, which will be covered in the Kirby Super Star section of this page.

Kirby Super Star

Arena Waddle Dee, moments before being hit in the face by Hammer Kirby.

KSS Waddle Dee.png Alas, Arena Waddle Dee finally makes his first real appearance in Kirby Super Star. In this game, Arena Waddle Dee appears exclusively in the final mode of the game, The Arena, where he is randomly chosen as one of the first 18 fights before the final boss. He is fought in the same colosseum as both of the Mid-Boss All Stars, which also appears in the background of the victory screen after Kirby beats The Arena, and seems to feature the great King Dedede.

Arena Waddle Dee's behaviour in this game is very simple. In fact, it's non-existent, as he simply stands still and can only be moved when coming in contact with Kirby or his Helper. Arena Waddle Dee has the highest amount of health out of every Waddle Dee in Kirby Super Star, but can be easily defeated with a simple inhale.[5] Despite actually being called Arena Waddle Dee[conjectural title][Jambandra title][derived from New Worldian][from internal data][citation needed][dead link][needs verification][sic][1], he is only referred to as ENEMY in this game's UI, just like most other bosses in Kirby Super Star. Even though Arena Waddle Dee has a light orange skin tone during his actual fight, his icon in the rest area before shows him with a much more darker skin.

Attacks

The following lists all of Arena Waddle Dee's attacks in The Arena of Kirby Super Star. All attack names are 100% official and not conjectural whatsoever.

Other possible appearances

KSS Megaton Punch Bandana Waddle Dee sprite.png
The mysterious bandana-wearing Waddle Dee.

Surprisingly, Arena Waddle Dee is not the only Waddle Dee with above average power in Kirby Super Star. In the single-player mode of Megaton Punch, one of the two Sub-Games present in this game, Kirby battles against three different opponents to see who can punch the biggest crack into Planet Popstar. The first of these opponents is a Waddle Dee wearing a blue bandana. This Waddle Dee is likely the most powerful Waddle Dee in the Kirby series, being able to do a single punch of up to 167 megaton (167000 kiloton) (167000000 ton) (71250427008362410 kilogram-force meter) (a lot). Unfortunately, since this Waddle Dee is the first opponent, Kirby has a pretty easy time defeating him in this competition. Despite the fact that this is the second time a powerful Waddle Dee is introduced in this one game, it is unclear whether or not this Waddle Dee and Arena Waddle Dee are one and the same (for now).

Information on Arena Waddle Dee's role in Kirby Super Star Ultra will be covered here, since it makes the most sense chronologically.

Kirby Ball 64

Kirby Ball 64 at your local gaming store, but you can't buy it, it's not for sale! Kirby Ball 64, it was canceled just before E3 1996, it's a fail... Kirby's Air Ride replaced it![6]

Kirby's Star Stacker

In Kirby's Star Stacker on the Game Boy, player 2 controls a Waddle Dee in the Vs. Mode. This is the second time we see a Waddle Dee directly challenging Kirby, which may be a hint that this is Arena Waddle Dee, especially considering that this is the first game to release after Kirby Super Star, the first game Arena Waddle Dee officially appeared in.

In the originally Japanese-exclusive Kirby's Star Stacker on the Super Famicom, a Waddle Dee serves as the first opponent in the game's Story Mode, similar to his role in Kirby's Avalanche. If this Waddle Dee is the same one as that game, it might mean that this one is also Arena Waddle Dee.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

As the name implies, Kirby's Dream Land 3 is another direct sequel to Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby's Dream Land 2, and therefore does not feature Arena Waddle Dee, Arena Waddle Dee 2: Electric Boogaloo, or Arena Waddle Dee 3: Tokyo Drift. However, Waddle Dees can be seen riding Nruffs and rafts in this game, which is pretty neat but completely irrelevant.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

"He's right behind me, isn't he?"
Main article: Waddle Dee (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards)

Just like a couple of the previous games, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards only has a single Waddle Dee, known as Waddle Dee. But this Waddle Dee is special, since he's one of the main characters in the game. He is first seen in Stage 1 of Pop Star, where he gets possessed by Dark Matter and turns into a Waddle Doo. Ignoring the weird lore implications, Kirby beats him up and Waddle Dee joins him on his journey. Since this is such a cool Waddle Dee, he might actually be Arena Waddle Dee, who is also very cool. A common theory in the Kirby community suggests that Waddle Dee (the one from this game) is actually Bandana Waddle Dee, but since Waddle Dee (the one this section is talking about) clearly does not have a bandana, there is no way that this theory is actually correct. (SUBTLE FORESHADOWING)

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble

This little guy will be found throughout the courses. Each time Kirby touches him, some of Kirby's vitality will be taken away.
— Description of Waddle Dees from the Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble North American instruction booklet

KTnT Waddle Dee.png The North American instruction booklet of Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble confirms that Waddle Dees are little guys.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2 does not confirm anything, since the game never released.

Kirby Family

Jaguar Sewing Machine Embroidery-Only Software: Kirby Family shouldn't even count as a "game appearance", since it was a simple piece of software rather than an actual video game. Anyhow, this software allowed the user to select a pattern based on artwork of characters from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. One of these characters was actually Waddle Dee (the one from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards)! This would allow the user to create a Waddle Dee in real life, which is very cool.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

An innocent Waddle Dee, destined to be stuck in the same pose for all of eternity, being nothing but a simple collectible model in a rushed game, never being looked at by the remaining playerbase.

After being completely absent from the original Super Smash Bros., a single Waddle Dee appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee in the form of a Trophy. Since Trophies are confirmed to be real sentient beings turned into collectible figurines, this implies that this Waddle Dee Trophy is actually a real Waddle Dee turned into a Trophy, which could possibly be Arena Waddle Dee.

This game also introduced All-Star Mode to the Super Smash Bros. series, which is heavily inspired by The Arena, also having the player fight every opponent in the game with limited healing items. Regardless of this, Arena Waddle Dee unfortunately does not appear in this mode.

Kirby's Air Ride

Kirby's Air Ride is the infamous prequel to the last game in the Kirby series: Kirby Air Ride. However, extremely surprisingly, not a single Waddle Dee has ever been found in this game! Unless Arena Waddle Dee is hiding somewhere, this might be the only game Arena Waddle Dee has absolutely no chance of appearing in...

Kirby Air Ride

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Waddle Dees appear as regular enemies in Kirby Air Ride. The character that should really be talked about is Windmill Tree, who debuted in this game's Fantasy Meadows course. It is a big tree with insect-like leaves, and when raced through in Fantasy Meadows, several Dales can be found inside. Ever since this game, various Windmill Trees have made appearances in almost every game in the Kirby series, whether it be a small cameo or a major background element.

Its most famous appearance is in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, where the tree is visible in the background of the title screen and Stage 1 of Cookie Country, as well as appearing in a bubble of sorts in the Landia section of Another Dimension. This tree does look very different from the original one, having a thicker trunk, a second smaller set of leaves, and leaves that actually look like leaves. A mechanized version of this tree can be found in Kirby: Planet Robobot. Multiple Windmill Trees can also be seen in the Grasslands in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, supporting a design that's a sort of mix between the original's four insect-like leaves and the redesign's second set of leaves and thicker trunk. The lore significance of these many Windmill Trees is still unknown.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Arena Waddle Dee, moments after being hit in the face by Hammer Kirby.

KNiDL Waddle Dee sprite.png Arena Waddle Dee finally makes his triumphant return in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. Just like every other main-series game since Kirby's Adventure, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror has its very own Boss Endurance mode. Since this mode is just called Boss Endurance, Arena Waddle Dee is often nicknamed Boss Endurance Waddle Dee when referring to his appearance in this game. However, despite this mode being called Boss Endurance, this mode is more similar to The Arena, since it lets Kirby choose any of his Copy Abilities, and also gives him Maxim Tomatoes in rest areas. This similarity might be the reason for Arena Waddle Dee's long-awaited return. Furthermore, every battle is also fought in a random order (except for the last two bosses), but unlike in The Arena, Arena Waddle Dee does not have his own battle. Instead, he is fought in one of the three Mid-Boss battles, being the first foe before Kirby battles Bombar and Box Boxer. Kirby also has the ability to call his friends in this game, but luckily for Arena Waddle Dee, the CPUs are so stupid that they're just going to get hit and lose their Copy Abilities. Arena Waddle Dee is once again fought in a colosseum, but the audience is a lot closer and easier to see in this game, which now consists Cappies, Scarfies, Waddle Doos, and even other Waddle Dees.

The following lists Arena Waddle Dee's attack in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. The attack name is conjectural, probably.

Arena Waddle Dee's attack in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Attack Description Note
Walk Arena Waddle Dee waddles forward like any other Waddle Dee. Once he reaches the edge of the screen, he starts waddling in the opposite dee-rection. One must imagine a Waddle Dee happy.

However, there could be an argument made that this Waddle Dee is actually different from Arena Waddle Dee. For one, this Waddle Dee supports a slightly different design from the way Arena Waddle Dee looked in Kirby Super Star, but this could be argued as being a simple non-canon redesign, just like King Dedede (who for some reason is completely absent in this game). Another argument could be that this game takes place in the Mirror World, and that there is no way Arena Waddle Dee could have traveled here. However, he could have simply used the Dimension Mirror, and other characters like Moley also inexplicably travel between the Mirror World and Planet Popstar. Therefore, this myth is completely busted.

KaTAM Big Waddle Dee Sprite.png This game also introduced Big Waddle Dees to the Kirby series. Epic!

Kirby for Nintendo GameCube

In everyone's favorite Kirby game Kirby for Nintendo GameCube, Waddle Dees once again reappear as regular enemies in all three builds of this game. But no Arena Waddle Dee. Boring.

Kirby: Canvas Curse

KCC Waddle Dee sprite.png In Kirby: Canvas Curse, Waddle Dees unsurprisingly reappear as regular enemies, and can be easily defeated by Kirby simply rolling into them.

KCC Waddle Dee Ball sprite.png However, after the game is beaten once, a Waddle Dee will be unlocked as a playable character. Just like every other playable character, this Waddle Dee is shaped like a ball, and can not move around on his own, which is kind of cruel. This Waddle Dee has the exact same size and health as Kirby, but is obviously unable to Copy Abilities, which makes his addition to the playable roster feel very pointless. Seriously, why is he there?

Kirby: Squeak Squad

In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Waddle Dees unsurprisingly reappear as regular common enemies. However, Kirby can actually control them by using the new Ghost ability, allowing everyone to fulfill their life long dream of playing as a regular Waddle Dee who can do nothing but walk around and jump. In addition to this, a golden variant appears, giving a treasure chest if defeated. What more is there to say?

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Various Waddle Dees appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, being included in King Dedede's entrance, Waddle Dee Toss side special move, Waddle Dee Army Final Smash, and victory pose. The Waddle Dee Trophy also returns. A couple Waddle Dees also appear in a cutscene in The Subspace Emissary, but this game once again lacks the presence of Arena Waddle Dee.

Kirby Super Star Ultra

Completely unedited screenshot of Arena Waddle Dee somehow managing to clobbah dat dere Kirbeh in The Arena.

And here we are! The third and final official appearance of Arena Waddle Dee: Kirby Super Star Ultra. This is the first game where Arena Waddle Dee is given a name in-game, but unfortunately, he's just called Waddle Dee. Since this game is a remake of Kirby Super Star, Arena Waddle Dee will obviously be completely unchanged from his original appearance.

The Arena

KSSU Bandana Waddle Dee Sprite.png Arena Waddle Dee's first appearance in Kirby Super Star Ultra unsurprisingly has him reprise his role as being a joke boss in The Arena. Arena Waddle Dee has two "attacks" not present in his Kirby Super Star incarnation: walking and jumping. Additionally, instead of already being present off-screen when Kirby enters the battlefield, he is seen spawning into existence on-screen near the middle of the arena, exactly like other Mid-Bosses in Kirby Super Star Ultra. This game also sees the introduction of The True Arena to the Kirby series, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a True Arena Waddle Dee. Arena Waddle Dee is also once again given a very minor redesign, since this game redid all of Kirby Super Star's pixel art due to it being on the Nintendo DS. However, strangely enough, he has also been given a blue bandana. This very likely confirms that the bandana-wearing Waddle Dee from Megaton Punch and Arena Waddle Dee are actually the same character! Since he still doesn't have an official name, this might mean that Arena Waddle Dee should be renamed to Megaton Punch Waddle Dee, but since that's a stupid name, and since there's absolutely nothing else he could be named after, he will continue to be referred to as Arena Waddle Dee.

Megaton Punch

Since Arena Waddle Dee is now practically confirmed to be Megaton Punch Waddle Dee, a summary on his role in Megaton Punch should also be covered here. Disappointingly, his role is exactly the same as in Kirby Super Star, simply being the first opponent Kirby faces in his planet-destroying competition. But hey, at least it makes powerscaling a lot more interesting. The only thing about this Sub-Game that was changed in Kirby Super Star Ultra was the removal of two-player support, but this mode always made player 2 play as Knuckle Joe anyway, so the only reason it was brought up is to slightly extend the length of this page.

Revenge of the King

Great King, pull yourself together!
— Arena Waddle Dee in Revenge of the King, The Revenge, Kirby Super Star Ultra

Arena Waddle Dee's undoubtedly biggest role in Kirby Super Star Ultra is in Revenge of the King, specifically in the fifth and final stage: The Revenge. After Kirby defeats Kabula in Mt. Dedede Sky, he comes crashing into Castle Dedede. Arena Waddle Dee immediately warns King Dedede about this, telling him to stay calm. After Kirby defeats the many Mid-Bosses the king had prepared, the only option left to defeat Kirby is Arena Waddle Dee himself. Unfortunately, just like in The Arena, he isn't a very formidable foe. After his inevitable defeat, he manages to make his way back safely, and gets to sit in the background to watch Masked Dedede battle against Hammer Kirby.

After Dedede is dededefeated, he can be seen sadly strolling through the desert, with a bunch of Waddle Dees, including Arena Waddle Dee, following right behind. In the same staff credits, a sprite of Kirby and Arena Waddle Dee both using a Nintendo DS is used as the icon for the "Testing" credits. Even though this may be the very last of Arena Waddle Dee's appearances as the infamous joke boss, it certainly wouldn't be his last appearance in the series.

Attacks

The following lists all of Arena Waddle Dee's attacks in The Arena and Revenge of the King in Kirby Super Star Ultra. All attack names are completely made up and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Arena Waddle Dee's attacks in Kirby Super Star Ultra
Attack Description Note
Walk Arena Waddle Dee walks forward at an incredibly slow pace, slower than any other Waddle Dee ever, even slower than in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. This attack carries over from his appearance in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
Jump After around every three seconds of walking, Arena Waddle Dee jumps upward in the same direction he's currently walking in. This jump is a bit lower than that of Kirby's. Did you know that Arena Waddle Dee can jump higher than the Eiffel Tower? That's because the Eiffel Tower can't jump!

Locations

Arena Waddle Dee can be found in the following places in Kirby Super Star Ultra:

Arena Waddle Dee locations in Kirby Super Star Ultra
He only appears in The Arena and The Revenge, which has already been mentioned right before this, there's no reason to look at this.

Kirby's Epic Yarn / Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn

KEY Waddle Dee artwork.png
An impostor among us.

Kirby's Epic Yarn and its demake feature many different Waddle Dees made out of yarn. However, according to an in-game interlude, these are not actual Waddle Dees, but instead impostors created by Yin-Yarn. Therefore, it would be very suspicious if Arena Waddle Dee actually did appear in this game.

Kirby Mass Attack

In the Kirby Mass Attack Sub-Game Strato Patrol EOS, a Waddle Dee wearing a blue bandana makes a cameo in the boss fight against Meta Knight. Since this mode has the Kirbys fight multiple bosses similar to The Arena, and due to Arena Waddle Dee being the only Waddle Dee that has ever b een seen wearing a bandana, it's safe to say that this is indeed Arena Waddle Dee. Sailor Waddle Dee from Revenge of Meta Knight can also be seen on the other side of the screen, disproving the popular fan theory that Arena Waddle Dee and Sailor Waddle Dee are the same character.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

After being defeated by Kirby multiple times, Arena Waddle Dee somehow became his best friend.

Arena Waddle Dee once again reappears in Kirby's Return to Dream Land for arguably his biggest role yet. In this game, he gets to be one of the main four playable characters, along with Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede. Unfortunately, his moveset is an exact copy of the Spear ability's moveset, with the only difference being that he uses Infinity Jumps instead of a hover. In this game, he is once again simply called Waddle Dee, despite this game already having Waddle Dees as regular enemies which Arena Waddle Dee will have to fight. Due to this, one might assume that he is often nicknamed Spear Waddle Dee, but unfortunately that enemy already exists (making him even less original). Other than being a playable character and appearing in cutscenes, he doesn't play a large role. However, this game also sees the long-awaited return of The Arena, meaning that Arena Waddle Dee can still fulfill his life long goal of being a competent fighter in The Arena!

In the Nintendo Switch remake of this game, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Arena Waddle Dee is named Bandana Waddle Dee, but since this chronologically doesn't happen yet, it will be ignored in this page for now.

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition

Arena Waddle Dee appears alongside other Waddle Dees in the intro cinematic for Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition. Since this game is actually a collection of previous games, he also reprises his role in Kirby Super Star.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhi:)

In the little-known prequel to Kirby: Planet Robobot, Arena Waddle Dee plays a very minor role, only appearing in stages to give Kirby (and King Dedede in Dededetour!) food items in the form of Assist Stars. Other than that, he unfortunately does absolutely nothing, since despite the fact that The Arena returns in this game, Arena Waddle Dee is nowhere to be seen in it. A Keychain based on Arena Waddle Dee's sprite in Kirby Super Star Ultra can also be obtained.

However, on the official Kirby: Triple Deluxe website and in the game's manual, Arena Waddle Dee is actually referred to as Bandana Waddle Dee! Unfortunately, that would mean that this whole page would need to be redone, from the title, to every single time Arena Waddle Dee is referred to by that name. Since that is obviously way too much effort, here are three reasons why Bandana Waddle Dee should actually be called Arena Waddle Dee:

  1. Bandana Waddle Dee is obviously named after his bandana, but what would happen if he were to lose it? Would he just be called Waddle Dee again? Arena Waddle Dee should definitely have a way to be distinguished from other Waddle Dees, due to being the most important Waddle Dee ever created by the legendary Masahiro Sakurai, and he can't be distinguished by his spear or parasol because there are already Waddle Dees using both weapons!
  2. Being named after the thing you're wearing is a lot lamer than being named after the things you do, just like how people in real life have last names based on jobs. Waddle Dees are named after the fact that they waddle, Rolling Waddle Dees are named after the fact that they roll, Swinging Waddle Dees are named after the fact that they swing, and Dracula Waddles are named after the fact that they Dracula, so why should Arena Waddle Dee be any different?
  3. Arena Waddle Dee[conjectural title][Jambandra title][derived from New Worldian][from internal data][citation needed][dead link][needs verification][sic][1] is obviously the original name of the character, and according to WiKirby's writing unspecifics, the original name of a character should always be used instead of their updated one. Or at least I think that's what it says, I haven't actually read the full page yet. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play Animal Crossing: New Leaf on my Nintendo 3DS.

Seeing as that's finally over, you can now continue reading this supercalifragilistic page on Arena Waddle Dee.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe

In Kirby Fighters Deluxe, King Dedede can throw Waddle Dees on to the Dedede Arena. Since this is obviously an Arena, one of these Waddle Dees has a likely chance of being Arena Waddle Dee.

Additionally, Kracko has an attack during his boss fight where he throws Keychains from Kirby: Triple Deluxe on to the screen, to block the player's view. One of the Keychains that might show up is the one of Arena Waddle Dee.[7]

Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe

King Waddle Deedeedee.

In the one Kirby game that isn't actually a Kirby game but rather a Dedede game, Waddle Dees once again reappear as regular "enemies". King Dedede can also obtain a Waddle Dee mask if the player has Kirby: Triple Deluxe StreetPass data on their Nintendo 3DS system. Luckily, players still have until April 2024 until StreetPass is discontinued… Wait, what day is it?

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U

In the game that's actually two games, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Waddle Dees appear in an costume for King Dedede and as regular enemies in Smash Run, though they are devastatingly not in Dedede's Final Smash.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Kirby, Waddle Dee, Waddle Dee, and Waddle Dee in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.

In Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, players two, three, and four all play as differently-colored bandana-wearing spear-wielding clay-made Waddle Dees. The original Arena Waddle Dee is simply named Waddle Dee (again), the yellow one is known as pickles, and the green one is called error. pickles and error were both painted by Elline to help Kirby on his quest to return the stolen colors back to Dream Land. The three Waddle Dees have a regular moveset you would find in a mainline Kirby game, which basically defeats the purpose of this game being about drawing lines to traverse through stages.

However, the title screen of the E3 2014 Demo of Kirby and the Rainbow Curse actually shows a fourth Waddle Dee, who has a cyan skin and a white bandana. This character is not seen in the final game, but it can be assumed that his name would have probably been something like "saltwater".[8]

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Arena Waddle Dee performs the same function in the well-known sequel to Kirby Triple Deluxe as in that game, offering Kirby food items he can store at various points in the stages. Using StreetPass will improve the quality of the items.

In Meta Knightmare Returns, instead of giving Meta Knight an Assist Star before bosses, he will instead give him a sphere containing 10 Meta Points.

If the Waddle Dee amiibo is scanned, Kirby will gain a custom Parasol ability based on Arena Waddle Dee. This ability gives Kirby a Waddle Dees's color scheme with a blue bandana, as well as a unique blue spotted parasol, which would later appear as Arena Waddle Dee's weapon in Kirby Battle Royale.

Arena Waddle Dee also appears as several stickers, including a doodle.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe

Tree Dee greets a crafty egg.

The pay-to-win game where you can no longer pay to win, Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, takes place in an alternate dimension known as the Dream Kingdom. However, this world features many characters bearing the same name and appearances as their equivalents found in other Kirby games. One of these alternate characters is Arena Waddle Dee, who sits at the Gem Apple Tree all day, waiting for the Dream Kingdom's Kirby to harvest them every 12 hours, even though the tree will never be able to grow again due to the Nintendo 3DS eShop being shut down. Due to this Waddle Dee canonically being a different character, it is debatable if this should really count as an appearance, so let's just call him Tree Dee.

Kirby's Blowout Blast

Waddle Dees appear in Kirby's Blowout Blast. Spear Waddle Dees also appear in Kirby's Blowout Blast.

Kirby Battle Royale

Despite everything, he will always stay positive!

Arena Waddle Dee (once again referred to as Bandana Waddle Dee, but we've gone over that already) plays one of his biggest roles in the story mode of Kirby Battle Royale: Dedede's Cake Royale. While Kirby is making his way to the tournament after getting invited, he stumbles upon Arena Waddle Dee, who was very eepy on the ground.

For some odd reason, instead of using his iconic spear from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Arena Waddle Dee uses a parasol with the same moveset as the Copy Ability, which once again means that he doesn't have any original attacks. This is especially strange considering that Spear is already a Copy Ability available in the game.

Moreover, for some odd, strange, unusual, peculiar, bizarre, uncanny, unexpected, extraordinary, inexplicable, untypical, puzzling, questionable, surreal, zany, and other synonyms of "weird" reason, Arena Waddle Dee ISN'T PLAYABLE! Instead, in the multiplayer mode, he's replaced by a regular Parasol Waddle Dee! Why did they do that?!

Unless… What if this bandana-less Waddle Dee using the same moveset as the bandana-wearing Waddle Dee is actually the same Arena Waddle Dee, just after losing his bandana?! This would explain why they have the exact same moveset, and is also another argument as to why Arena Waddle Dee should keep that name, since he doesn't always have his bandana, and Kirby Battle Royale has a mode literally called Battle Arena!

Kirby Star Allies

He.

Arena Waddle Dee (referred to again as Bandana Waddle Dee, that might be a pattern) returns as a playable character in Kirby Star Allies, being the first Dream Friend unlocked in the first version of the game. Unlike other Dream Friends, he does not represent a game in the mainline Kirby series, instead representing Waddle Dees in general. His moveset is almost identical to the one in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, but actually good! Not only does his Moon Drop attack now get useful invincibility frames (making it not basically useless against bosses), but Version 4.0.0 of the game gave him (alongside King Dedede and Meta Knight) a brand new attack, in the form of his Ground Thrust! This is by far the best attack he has, due to its large amount of invincibility and high damage values. Additionally, if he jumps during the attack, he can do a type of pole vault jump, though for some reason this is not actually mentioned in game. If he holds the attack button when performing Ground Thrust or pole vault jump, he can actually instantly charge an Arena Copter! Arena Waddle Dee has truly proven himself to be even better with a spear than Kirby!

But wait, there's more! This game introduces Power Effects, which allows an ally to ignite their weapon with an elemental power. Arena Waddle Dee is no exception, as he can use Blizzard Spear, Bluster Spear, Sizzle Spear, Splash Spear, and Zap Spear to make his moveset even better than it already was! There's also playable Parasol Waddle Dees in this game, but that's not important in the context of this page.

Finally, our favorite Dee gets to star in his own (kinda) mode, in the form of Guest Star Arena Waddle Dee The Legend of Dee. Unfortunately, just like the other base-game Dream Friends, Arena Waddle Dee's version of Guest Star ???????????????????????????????????????? Star Allies Go! is the same as any other ally, with the exception of the music during the Morpho Knight fight being replaced by a remix of "Final Boss" from Kirby's Adventure, which could possibly be a hint at Arena Waddle Dee secretly having appeared in Kirby's Adventure. The background art in Arena Waddle Dee's menu of the mode seems to once again confirm that the bandana-wearing Waddle Dee in Megaton Punch is indeed Arena Waddle Dee.

It's identical to the one in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, but actually good.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

KSSU Waddle Dee artwork.png
The un-enhanced Waddle Dee spirit.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, all of your favorite video game characters (other than Kirby) got wrecked by Galeem's light beam attack and turned into spirits. Arena Waddle Dee was no exception, as a Waddle Dee spirit can be found in-game. This Waddle Dee has to be specifically Arena Waddle Dee, since it can be enhanced to the "Bandana Waddle Dee" spirit at level 99. Even though Arena Waddle Dee is one of the strongest fictional characters ever created, his spirits are only class ★★ and ★★★ respectively. At least Galacta Knight gets to be the most powerful spirit in the game, having even more power than the actual final bosses of the game.

Super Kirby Clash

The pay-to-win game where you can still pay to win, Super Kirby Clash, once again takes place in the Dream Kingdom, though for some reason, Tree Dee calls Kirby a "pink stranger", which is pretty rude. Tree Dee reprises his role of sitting under a tree and harvesting apples, but now also sings a song about it. This may be a reference to "The Apple Juice Song" from Kirby Memorial Arrangements, which is another song related to apples implied to be sung by a bandana-wearing Waddle Dee.

Kirby Fighters 2

Kirby Fighters 2 is the first game in the Kirby Fighters series to feature playable characters other than Kirbys. Included among these is "Bandana Waddle Dee", who has basically the same moveset as the one in Kirby Star Allies. He is also Kirby's main buddy in Story Mode: The Destined Rivals.

Version 2.0.0 onward

Arena Waddle Dee can be seen in the top right (again).
Main article: Kirby Fighters 2

However, strangely, in the 2.0.0 update of Kirby Fighters 2 released on April 1st 2023, Arena Waddle Dee was added as a seperate playable character, along with other iconic Kirby characters like Dale, Gryll, Dashing Superguy, Brawl Meta Knight, Zan Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconioses, Grandfather Haltmann, Windmill Tree, and Donkey Kong, despite the supposed Bandana Waddle Dee already being playable. This Dee is simply referred to as Waddle Dee in-game, but according to the Kirby Fighters 2 Channel, this is actually Arena Waddle Dee![9] Unfortunately, Arena Waddle Dee is one of the worst characters in the game, lacking the capabilities of dashing and hovering. However, he does have a new attack based on Colossal Waddle Dee from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe where he wiggles his feet. Additionally, Arena Waddle Dee gained a brand new (not really) attack in the form of Shooter Cutter in version 3.0.0.0.0.0, which released... today!

This attack is an overused reference to the boss fight with Marx in Kirby Super Star, just like how this description is reused from earlier on in this page. This attack was added in version 3.0.0.0.0.0. The inputs required to use this attack are identical to the Konami Code. 86555

Para-dee-x

The fact that "Bandana Waddle Dee" and Arena Waddle Dee are considered different characters in this game has some pretty strange lore implications, but since anyone can play as the same character in this game, it's best to not overthink it. Especially considering the fact that version 2.0.0 of the game also added Magolor 2 (Electric Boogaloo) as a playable character, who functions almost exactly the same as Magolor 1, as well as Brawl Meta Knight, who was definitely not needed after regular Meta Knight was already the best character in the game due to his completely balanced infinite combo.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

No longer angy.

Arena Waddle Dee (now back with his bandana) once again appears as a playable character in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, albeit only by your younger sibling, as he is stuck as player 2. This time, due to nobody in the new world knowing that rain exists (leading to parasols being redundant), Arena Waddle Dee finally gets to use his spear in more than two dimensions! Unfortunately, HAL Laboratory knew how powerful he would be with a three-dimensional spear, so they made it very lacking. Unlike Kirby, who can now evolve his Copy Abilities, Arena Waddle Dee's spear always stays the exact same. He may say that "When [Kirby uses] an evolved Copy Ability, I grow a bit stronger too!", but this is a complete lie.[10]

However, on the bright side, there's an entire town dedicated to Arena Waddle Dee: Waddle Dee Town! Just ignore the fact that he's far from the only Waddle Dee living in the town, and that unlike Kirby and Elfilin, he doesn't even get his own golden statue, despite also helping them throughout the whole journey. Within Waddle Dee Town's borders, one can encounter many of Arena Waddle Dee's friends and family. One particular character of note is Weapons-Shop Waddle Dee, who, according to a Nintendo DREAM issue that nobody could be bothered to search for, actually designed Arena Waddle Dee's spear! He must've felt really betrayed when Arena Waddle Dee used a parasol instead in the hit Nintendo 3DS game Kirby Battle Royale. Perhaps this is the true reason why Arena Waddle Dee has no spear evolution.

Speaking of Waddle Dee Town, the Colosseum is a literal arena, and thus looks very similar to the one in The Arena in Kirby Super Star, which may mean that instead of creating a golden statue of Arena Waddle Dee, they created a whole arena based on him! Even though, unlike in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Arena Waddle Dee can't be used as player 1 in this mode, he is still very useful in speedruns, due to him being able to deal some finish damage after Kirby uses Crash.

Kirby's Dream Buffet

KDB Bandana Waddle Dee costume render.png
Is it Kirby? Or is it Arena Waddle Dee?

Kirby's Dream Buffet does not directly feature Arena Waddle Dee (other than appearing on several Character Treats), but this game does feature both a color and costume based on him for Kirby to use. Well, the color is just based on a regular Waddle Dee, but it's unlocked right after the bandana + spear costume, so it must be based specifically on Arena Waddle Dee. What's really crazy is that this game also features regular Waddle Dees as CPU opponents, and they sometimes wear a randomly select costume. So, if a Waddle Dee wears the "Bandana Waddle Dee" costume, they would look indistinguishable from Arena Waddle Dee!

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe (again)

Why does Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe have its own section when it's already mentioned in an earlier section? Sure, it may be Arena Waddle Dee's most recent appearance, but it's just a remake, and his role of just being a multiplayer character doesn't even change! The only real change is that he is now referred to as "Bandana Waddle Dee" like other recent games, instead of just "Waddle Dee", but no one would ever care about that. Unfortunately this means that his last game appearance is not that exciting. Lucky for the player, however, this page still has a lot left in store!

Many Waddle Dees can be seen in the masterpiece that is Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, living in Castle Dedede and serving their king. Many can even be seen wielding spears (pictured), but unfortunately, not a single Waddle Dee is confirmed to be Arena Waddle Dee. Not even the extremely iconic bandana-wearing Waddle Dee from Kirby Super Star can be spotted anywhere. This is likely due to the fact that this anime series takes place in a different continuity than the Kirby video games, and thus doesn't feature many of the most iconic Kirby characters. However, it's not impossible that one of the many Waddle Dees would have eventually became Arena Waddle Dee, though it would've had to have happened off-screen.

Furthermore, in the episode Snack Attack - Part II, Kirby is seen fighting many different opponents in a colosseum similar to that of The Arena, but he does not fight any Waddle Dees. At least this means that this series has both Arena and Waddle Dee.

Luckily, Kirby: Right Back at Ya! introduced the idea of Waddle Dees making "wanya"-like vocalizations in the Japanese versions of episodes like A Novel Approach and Hunger Struck, a trait that eventually carried over to the games. This totally makes up for Arena Waddle Dee's lack of appearances.

Arena Waddle Dee is one of the main protagonists of the Kirby novel series. While your first assumption might be that he's the recurring Waddle Dee seen since the very first novel, he was actually created by the Kirby Printer as a copy of the original Waddle Dee in Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!!, much like every other Waddle Dee. He became a main character by secretly replacing the original Waddle Dee without Kirby noticing.

Volume appearances

The following is a (mostly) complete list of every appearance of Arena Waddle Dee has made in the Kirby novel series, along with the role he plays and its details in the plot of each volume, but we all know that nobody reads this line:

Every time Arena Waddle Dee showed his grace in the Kirby novel series
Volume Image Role Role details Notes
Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!! V10 Illustration 18.png Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee is finally created, we all waited for the main character to show up. He is created by the Kirby Printer and replaces Waddle Dee, but you all know that already from reading the description above. What you don't know is that Arena Waddle Dee reveals that his middle name is "Arena Waddle Dee". Wait, does this mean that Arena Waddle Dee is technically a baby?
Kirby Star Allies: The Great Friend Adventure! V11 Waddle Dee Illustration.png Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee learns the value of friendship by being hit with a great spear. He spends most of his time at the hospital after that, but it makes him want to have a spear of his own. He is cheered by the Waddle Dees who tell him that now he is the representative of all the Waddle Dees since he is so awesome. He shows a up to the battle against Zan Paprika and wins by revealing her true name. Strangely, we still don't know what Zan Pteran's true name is.
Kirby Star Allies: The Universe is in Trouble?! V12 Waddle Dee Illustration.png Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee needs to switch places with another Waddle Dee so he can escape King Dedede. However, he doesn't know that the Waddle Dee that he switched places with was the original Waddle Dee, who out of jealousy tries to reclaim his title as a friend of Kirby. King Dedede discovers his pretending and - not knowing Waddle Dee's history - takes his bandana away. Wait, we are suppose to be talking about Arena Waddle Dee! Anyway, Arena Waddle Dee gets his spear by knocking the palace guard who held it up. With his spear, he defeats Void Termina and declares himself a the new god of the people of Jamba. However, since there are like five Jambas still alive, it doesn't change a lot. This novel confirms that Arena Waddle Dee is a god.
Kirby: Big Trouble in Patch Land! V13 Bandana Waddle Dee illustration.png Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee notices that the other Waddle Dees aren't looking as usual, because they are made of yarn. The premise of trying to figure out which similar looking characters are actually impostors trying to do evil things is very similar to the hit game Among Us.
Kirby: Save the Rainbow Islands! V14 Waddle Dee Illustration.png Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee stays in Pick's house while his friends go to the big cloud, since he already knows that Pirika is just going to brainwash them. How does he know? He read forward. Why didn't he warn them? King Dedede told him that he doesn't like spoilers, since they spoil his food. He plays chess against Pick and Mine and wins every time. Unlike novel Arena Waddle Dee, game Arena Waddle Dee actually hates spoilers.
Kirby: Super Team Kirby's Big Battle! V15 Illustration 28.png Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee and Kirby eat all the lunch, and want to make more lunch, getting the idea that lunch should be eaten in the morning and evening too. When Kirby arrives at the Dream Kingdom he at first hopes that the bandana-clad Waddle Dee is his best friend Arena Waddle Dee, but he is not. When Kirby returns, they eat more lunch. The Dream Kingdom's bandana-wearing Waddle Dee is likely Tree Dee.
Kirby and the Search for the Dreamy Gears! V16 Waddle Dee Illustration.png Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee doesn't show up, since he knows that he is already dreamy and doesn't need any gears. The only thing that can match Arena Waddle Dee's amount of dreaminess is chocolate. Fortunately, this novel has chocolate, which summons Arena Waddle Dee to a match. Arena Waddle Dee, with his arena skills, outsmarts the chocolate and eats it. Now Arena Waddle Dee's dreaminess have multiplied. Be careful, if he becomes too dreamy, he can show up in people's dreams, opening his gate to the real world. Oh no...
Kirby: Meta Knight and the Knight of Yomi V17 Illustration 20.png Protagonist In this volume, oh... it seems that his dreaminess from the last novel made him real. Look at this, he got a sword. He is coming to get you... he is coming to get you... he is coming to get you... he is coming to get you! Get real.
Kirby: Uproar at the Kirby Café?! V18 Illustration 27.jpg Protagonist In this volume, Arena Waddle Dee helps plan the Kirby Café, and the Dedede Café too. He comes up with amazing ideas like making a big and flashy sign, making all the chairs and tables bounce and most important of all, meat ice cream. Since he is too good at planning cafés, when the cooking competition is announced, the two rival cafés try to convince him to be at their side. Meta Knight decides that Arena Waddle Dee would be an unfair advantage, so he instead offers him to be a co-judge with him. Meta Knight and Arena Waddle Dee call the competition a tie, and Arena Waddle Dee takes a nap. After he wakes up, Chef Kawasaki shows him an omurice made by his image. Just look at it, it is so precious. The omurice is almost as good as Waddle Dee's fried balls.
Kirby Fighters: The Destined Rivals!! V19 Illustration 15.png Protagonist In this volume, the original Waddle Dee has had enough.

Music

The composer of "Arena Showdown", Jun Ishikawa, was confused when told that Arena Waddle Dee needed his own theme music.[12]
Main article: Arena Sho- wait no don't leave

Due to being such an important character, Arena Waddle Dee has his very own theme music, which is known as "Arena Showdown" (also simply referred to as "The Arena"). Just like all other music in the Kirby series, it is actually a remix of "Green Greens" from Kirby's Dream Land. This is due to the fact that its composer, Jun Ishikawa, can only see the color green.

"Arena Showdown" is considered to be the main theme for The Arena in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, and for Arena Waddle Dee by extension. And since every other Boss and Mid-Boss has their own theme in the rest of the game modes, it can be safely said that "Arena Showdown" is Arena Waddle Dee's theme specifically, and the omnipresence of "Arena Showdown" throughout The Arena can be attributed to the fact that Arena Waddle Dee conquered the hearts and minds of almost all the other Bosses and Mid-Bosses of The Arena, barring King Dedede, Meta Knight, Galactic Nova, and Marx, who have very thick plot armor.

Legend has it that "Arena Showdown" was once titled "Gladiator Kirby", a fitting name given the type of Arena Kirby and Arena Waddle Dee clash in. This title would explain the rhythm of the theme, which served as the inspiration for the "Mars" movement of Gustav Holst's The Planets suite, a planet named after the Roman God of War. The fact that Arena Waddle Dee is a "character of unknown origins [that] is often seen walking around Arenas and battling Kirby" is thus disproved, as it appears that Arena Waddle Dee is a gladiator from the Roman Empyre.

Composition

The key of "Arena Showdown" is Phrygian dominant A, or, simplified, A minor with B-flat and C-sharp. However, it can be argued that theme is actually in one of the following keys: Phrygian dominant G-double sharp, F-quadruple sharp, E-quintuple sharp, D-septuple sharp, C-nonuple sharp, B-dectuple sharp, B-double flat, C-triple flat, D-quintuple flat, E-septuple flat, F-octuple flat, G-dectuple flat. Isn't it all the same though, really? The meter is 4/4. Of course it is, because unlike the overly chaotic and scattered Marx, Arena Waddle Dee is strong, organized, and sane.

Although the theme is obviously "Green Greens" by virtue of it being composed by a Kirby composer for a Kirby game, especially Kirby Super Star, where everything is either "Peanut Plains" or "Kirby's Triumphant Return", both of which are derived from "Green Greens", the relation is made more obvious in several instances. For starters, the first interval of the melody is a rising fourth, which composers have resorted to when trying to find clever new ways to add "Green Greens" to their music (with later examples of this phenomenon being "Sacred Square" and "Ancient Tower Towara", from Kirby Star Allies). Most importantly, during the second phrase, where the dotted rhythm and rising major triads color the Mars-red theme in Greens-green. Finally, the second, minor section of "Green Greens" known for its rising sequences of three notes, the most notorious in its not-so-discrete recurring appearances, appears in the latter portion of the second section of "Arena Showdown".

Besides "Green Greens" itself, the theme is connected to "Invincible Candy", which appears in the second, dominant (and major) section. The use of "Invincible Candy" here may have implications. However, it is unclear whose victory it foreshadows, since Kirby is near invincible with his own plot armor, but Arena Waddle Dee is no less of a threat than the pink demon.

The third section is less notable as far as older themes are concerned. However, this section has a clear Spanish vibe, and can be associated with toreros, which also fight in Arenas and are spiritual descendants of gladiators. Besides toreros, anime Meta Knight is known for his Spanish-ness (with Spanish accent, guitar riffs during his appearances, and other factors). Perhaps "Arena Showdown" became the inspiration for Spanish Meta Knight, since this theme has parts similar to the aforementioned riffs. This would mean that Arena Waddle Dee is a predecessor to Meta Knight, and thus also a Star Warrior. It would also put him two generations before Kirby, which means that he is far more experienced and thus should and will come on top of dat dere Kirbeh. This can also be seen as conclusive and undisputable evidence that Arena Waddle Dee existed before Kirby, which has earlier been already speculated to be the Roman era.
